I was amazed it worked as well as it did, considering I have an iPhone 8 without the fancy sensors of the X. It was indeed slightly off on the objects I tested. But for a rough measurement it could be useful.

In iOS 12, the Measure app is also home to the Level feature

Apple should keep going with this and pack a whole toolbox inside. There are days when I'd love to use my iPhone as a hammer.

It may not work perfectly now (or at all in some cases), but I can see this type of app being amazing in several years. Walk into a room, measure the whole thing. Could be really useful in the distant future.

iPhone 6? What!! Dude buy an iPhone Xs you won’t regret

I realize MacRumors is trying to stay relevant and talk about everything Mac. But I have a problem with constantly explaining how to use beta features.

New features need to be intuitive. That’s part of Apple’s whole philosophy. But if we have a website constantly jumping in to say look look this is how you use it, that defeats the purpose. Testers will be less likely to notify Apple that they couldn’t figure out a feature on their own.

This needs to be part of the beta testing process. When it’s deployed, that will ensure the feature is much more intuitive for the user. There is a reason why Apple never includes instruction manuals.

Apart from that, constant detailed articles about things that aren’t even released yet and which might change significantly before release seem pointless.

Yes, people want to know about beta features. But there’s a line between being informational and providing fully detailed instructional tutorials, and I think it’s crossed waaaay too often here. How about waiting until we have a released product to provide that information?

Tutorials r gre8. If u don’t like them don’t read them. Some we love the work that macrumors do 4 us

AR requires at least A9 chip
Not working on my 1st Gen 12.9 iPad Pro

(this app requires specific features not available on this device)

Yet it is in the list of supported devices

yep their support detection is garbage. the app isn't on any of my devices, and I can't search for it in the store. but Siri can find it for me and show me the app store entry. at the top it says cryptically "This app requires specific features not available on this device" as though that is somehow actionable or informative.

But the "Compatibility" section says "Works on this iPhone" and after tapping, the detail states "Requires iOS 12.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Apple is such a ****ing joke.

I would. Here are the reasons:

OLED - don't like that technology
FaceID - not a fan
Notch - not a fan
Price - they must be kidding me - totally expensive.

Overall, iPhone X is outrageously expensive for what it offers. No thanks. Even iPhone 8 I had (and returned) didn't have the price/value for me.

iPhone 6 is still a great phone especially with iOS 12. I'm not paying over 1000 pounds to have better camera and bigger screen with eyestrain and "sparkle" effect.

Sorry, but iPhone XS is not worth it. Maybe XR but even that is a bit of a stretch. If the XR would have dual cameras then THAT would be a good upgrade for the price and certainly something to consider.

For now, I'm waiting. Either for XR if I get swayed but more likely next year. Either to buy cheaper XR or just get something really worth upgrading to.

It's comically inaccurate on my iPhone 7. I measured an 18" ruler and the app said it was 17" long.
Your sense of humor fascinates me.

Am I the only one who finds this terrifying? Creepy enough that someone out there can see where every single one of us is, on a map at all times. Now they have 3D blueprints of our homes and offices. Am I nuts for seeing so much negative potential?

Measurements seem very off, like ~20-30% off (running iPhone SE)

Same. I suspect it's because the SE doesn't have the most sophisticated camera and sensors compared to the new X series, for which this was undoubtably conceived ...

Apparently someone at Macrumors really loves to make tutorials :D
And I appreciate every single one of them, especially when a new iOS debuts. I don't have time to play around with it for the first time and these tutorials help me decide which ones I'd wanna learn and will be useful for me. Thanks Juli.;)

What are the hardware requirements for this app? It will not work with my iPhone6 or iPad Air2. The app simply will not load saying my devices lack some requirement.

A device with at least an A9 chip is required, the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 have the A8/A8X chip.

I know this app is meant as a way to ballpark measurements, but I wish the header image showed an more accurate representation. That tv stand has 14" on one side, and 17" on the other. I guess I should appreciate the honesty, than making it look like an ad with perfect precision.

Bro no need 2 pretend u don’t like it, it’s all about money it’s okay

Its not about the money. I have the money. Its about value on top of the things I really don't like. There is a thread about eye strain from the OLED display for example that I relate to as I've tested the phone myself.
Yes, its a great screen with deeper blacks etc. but its not comfortable for me.
I'm not a fan of faceid.

So if you think I'm just making excuses because I don't have the money then you are just wrong or you are trolling.

P.s.: I'm not your 'Bro' so calm down. Otherwise I will start calling you baby :)

I can’t believe u don’t like the iPhone Xs the best iPhone ever Tim said. Everybody wants that phone dude so my question is what if they —Apple— low the price super cheap let’s say only 345 bucks cash would u buy it or still expensive 4 you? I like oled cause black is really black and that’s cool. I bought the iPhone Max Gold 512 GB 4 my gf and she don’t like it cause it’s too big :/

If you read my posts you realise 2 things:
1) I talk about things I don't like
2) I talk about value

So, you don't need to ask my the question above as I'm sure you have the answer.

Also, buying gf the top spec phone and getting is wrong tells me 2 things too:

a) you don't know what she likes
b) you (and I assume here) are careless with money as I (again, assume here) think that she probably doesn't need 512gb - in fact, very few people need that storage.

So, you are not the person to have a conversation about value here as I feel that you don't care too much about that. (or at least you come across that way)

The dot keeps disappearing before it reaches the edge of where you want to start the measurement from. Buggy at this point in time.

I tried the feature with some of my many fashion model girlfriends, but it didn't give me their accurate measurements!

.

Verging on Bolt James style posting here.
(He's a funny bugger in the iPhone section).
