My thoughts exactly. This is math that I can do in my head. 🤷🏻♂️TIL tipping is a complex enough problem to warrant a smartwatch feature![]()
Really, it starts by even needing a calculator for calculating/splitting a bill. OTOH, I don't complain about other accessibility features - I just don't use them.Do people not know how to use a calculator? 10% tip = divide by 10. 20% tip = divide by 10 and double it. 5% tip = divide 10 and half it. 15% tip = Add the 10% + 5% tip. Bill for 4 people? Divide bill by 4. Bill for 23 people? Divide by 23.
any% tip = divide by 100 and multiply the tip amount. ie 17.3% tip = divide by 100 multiply by 17.3
Wow, just wow.
I'm ready to get yelled at.
I can’t believe people need a calculator because they can’t do what is *literally* elementary school level math in their head.Do people not know how to use a calculator? 10% tip = divide by 10. 20% tip = divide by 10 and double it. 5% tip = divide 10 and half it. 15% tip = Add the 10% + 5% tip. Why do you assume I would want to go out with these friends? 😉I think this is about quickly adding the tip to the sum and divide it by the amount of people. Let's say you go out with friends and at the end of the night, you have to pay $259. Now you can quickly see the tip amount and – if you pay – what everyone of your friends has to give you. It's even handier when you're drunk 😜
I always thought of it as compensation along with gratitude for good service. Otherwise, fully agree with your statement. How it's presented: compensation in lieu of gratitude for good service.
Probably has nothing to do with the lack of funding for public schools here in the states. Otherwise, how’s the view from up on that horse?I can’t believe people need a calculator because they can’t do what is *literally* elementary school level math in their head.

True. And thanks. No need to divide and multiply.

Need to split, divide by number of people.
I think only US needs “tip” button instead of “%” button.
I don’t fault anyone for using a calculator. Being able to do the math in one’s own head is just not a priority for everyone, nor does it need to be. Different people = different things they prioritize and are “good at” (better than you at something else, I assure you).I can’t believe people need a calculator because they can’t do what is *literally* elementary school level math in their head.

Explains the vast number of tipping apps on the app store. It's basic maths. If you can't do that, then there's no hope.I don’t fault anyone for using a calculator. What I am bothered by is that apparently many wouldn’t know how to go about solving something as basic as tipping without a “custom” function, even with a calculator.
I was an average student who went to average public schools and got average sat scores. Never finished college. The view from my horse is average. Thanks for asking.Probably has nothing to do with the lack of funding for public schools here in the states. Otherwise, how’s the view from up on that horse?
They don't know math. I have never needed to use a calculator for this. I am likely just #blessed, but turning the bill into round numbers and dividing in my head is easier then getting a calculator out and figuring out exact numbers. I'd also just personally prefer to give people in the service industry more than 20% for the people who think they know how to use a calculator and are actually tipping 5%Do people not know how to use a calculator? 10% tip = divide by 10. 20% tip = divide by 10 and double it. 5% tip = divide 10 and half it. 15% tip = Add the 10% + 5% tip. Surely that’s the “1% handling fee” for you doing all the hard work when you split the bill 😂This article seems to be incorrect... You can't have the Tip at 0% as the minimum is 1% (which is a bummer)... At least on mine with the latest public release...
0% Tip? Don't press the tip button. 0% means no tip. I know the US education system is bad, but this? Unless you're being sarcastic, then this is funny. This article seems to be incorrect... Yes 0 * x = 00% Tip? Don't press the tip button. 0% means no tip. I know the US education system is bad, but this? Unless you're being sarcastic, then this is funny.
Think after, but now I'm curious. I need to check those amounts they put on the check now and see what those figure off of.Question for the class: do you calculate your tip on the bill before or after tax is added. Thanks!
