I picked my HomePod up first thing this morning. I'm then working from home today. I used the speakerphone function for a work meeting. I got no complaints. It's gotta sound better than using the speakerphone on the iPhone itself.

Homepod lets anyone text using your phone# so the privacy angle for not being able to ask it to dial a call is a bit weak.

I really think they just focused on making a great speaker for music and using Siri to control Apple Music.

They'll add other stuff, but the reason you're buying this expensive of a speaker is for music playback.

You can do voice texting and timers and phonecalls etc through not only the phone but your Apple Watch.

It’s time for VoiceID. Siri should be able to recognize voices and switch users based on it. If it’s a guest who never authenticated to the HomePod, Siri should ignore his/her commands.

For the actual sonic qualities of a speakerphone it is extraordinary. Freaked our cats right out when they are not the least concerned about people talking on the tv. It’s like they are in the room talking.

Here is the required Siri sucks, Alexa is better, no native Spotify support, late to the game, an echodot is cheaper, do not want post.

Please repost this every other post in every HomePod thread.

you forgot the overly expensive, laughable comparisons to sonos play:5, no multiple timers, half-baked features posts

But why cant we say hey siri call.... Handfree calling such a simple thing cant be done?
Because if there are multiple phones in the room, the HomePod wouldn't know which phone to use to call. You can say "Hey Siri, call my wife" into your phone, and then hand off to HomePod.

Well, you'd expect the HomePod to have better speakers than your iPhone.

At least for phone calls. If it's my voice, call through my phone. If it's my wife's voice, call through her phone. Saying that, "Hey Siri, call my dad" or "Hey Siri, call my boss" should also recognise the voice and pick the right person to call.

Feature request: Enable intercom feature in the HomePod. “Hey Siri, intercom kitchen.”

If HomePod is so good at picking up voices, it could be a perfect intercom, where you can place one on the main level and be able to speak from 30 feet away and have your voice sound loud and clear on the other end of the intercom connection.

I would buy half a dozen HomePods for that. Otherwise, I’m gonna have to run CAT6 in the house I’m building and do my usual Cisco CME setup with an IP phone in each room so that when I’m in the basement, I can talk to my wife two floors above.

They can add it with a software update.

And you can use it as a hands-free speaker. Siri is just too stupid to help you with it ;)
[doublepost=1518356776][/doublepost]Who uses a Phone? Apple isn't focusing their products for old people using the telephone. Your next complaint will be it can't interface with your Bell Rotary Phone. The Audio is so superior to it's rivals I'm ok if I have to use my Iphone to begin the 1 telephone call I make a year.

I do, but don't need your permission. :)
I like the idea of HomePod, just not the current implementation. When/if it becomes a better smart speaker and has smaller, less expensive versions for other rooms, I'll be revisiting getting a few.
If Google Home and Echo products let anyone make calls from your phone, I’d argue that maybe they’re not so smart.

Fair point. With the Echo it is hit or miss at times. My son tried it would when he visited just because he wanted to try it out, most of the time it wouldn't make the call but there were a couple times it did. Similar to how anything asked of the Echo by someone not tied to it.
Didn't try it with the Google Home but I suspect it will be about the same.

Honestly who gives a rats butt about Crapify? Only hip hop and maybe some indie trendy hipsters do. Apple Music is where it’s at.

Having used both Apple Music and Spotify, I can honestly say the music choices available on both services are very extensive and diverse. There is almost nothing between them. I'm not into Hip Hop and don't know what "Trendy Hipsters" listen to. But I found there is plenty of choice available on both services.

@RagingBrosGaming. Out of interest, What do you listen to that is on Apple Music but not on Spotify???

I just tried this again using my OG HomePod & iPhone 15 Pro after the tvOS 17 update, but I still am having problems.

Is there a way to adjust the mic volume on the HomePod? I have noticed that the caller’s volume is fine from the HomePod speaker, but the caller can barely hear the person speaking into the Home Pod.
