Anything that helps be get rid of the stuff I carry in my pockets is cool with me, I would use it. The problem is, will I be able to use it everywhere or still have to carry around cards. If I still have to carry cards because not everyone implements it, then forget it, what's the point?

I couldn't have said it better. It seems cool to pay at Starbucks or McDonalds with my phone, but if I still have to carry a wallet because the majority of business don't use NFC then it's pointless. The tags thing wouldn't be useful to me either. I have 20 seconds to alter my phones wifi, sound, noises, settings... when I get to a new place. I don't see how NFC would be anything more than a cool feature 0-5% of the people use. Apple does have a way of surprising us though!

If you can use it as an Oyster card then it'll be a little useful for me, otherwise not really useful at all.

Right now where I live I don't see NFC being used in the forseeable future. However, I am moving to New Orleans next month and I have no idea if it is used there / how fast it take on. I am also not so sure how I feel about having all of my purchasing power right there on my phone..

Where on earth do you live that there is no McDonald's and best buy. Or big name gas station an convenient stores for that matter?

Not saying that there aren't places off the grid like that but more then likely you just don't notice it because you don't have it.

and why would i want to go into mcdonalds? it's nasty

In theory I think it is a very good concept. I just think it is going to be a while before a wide array of businesses have the capability to make it useful.

About as good of an idea as RFID in passports...which is about as good of an idea as an extra hole in your head.

I use google wallet all the time on my gnex so I voted very! It's one of those things you think you would never use until you have it. there are a ton of places where you can use it. you just don't notice it because you cant use it! once they add it to the iphone you guys will rave about it

Whether liking/wanting it, it's pretty useless right now (except for certain place/pockets in countries that have done decently with it so far), very very few retailers have NFC installed and even the ones that do, don't have it everywhere (i.e. Starbucks and McDonalds for example as their still sporadically testing it). Then again why eat nasty fake McDonalds anyway, and I wouldn't go to Starbucks either since my home espresso/coffee setup blows away Starbucks.

Even for example if your in the UK where some have NFC systems, you'd still have to have cash/CC on hand b/c everyone else from restaurants to retail shops etc doesn't accept NFC (yet...). So until retailers and other places offer it on a global scale, it's fairly useless.

Google Wallet has more reach right now especially in the US where NFC is almost non existant but still a ton of empty niches to fill, restaurants for example just haven't really taken to it yet. I'm sure in upcoming years NFC/GW will have much more presence as more and more phones come with NFC enabled.

NFC is used for more than just payment. You can use it for transferring between phones by only tapping them. One of my favorite applications of NFC are the NFC tags you can use. You can have one at different places you frequent (work, home, bed, etc.) and each tag will cause your phone to go into a different "profile" AKA going into vibrate mode at work with wifi on.

It would be awesome if I could clock into work with my NFC enabled iPhone, instead of carrying around my badge.

Yeah, that would be another awesome application of NFC. I would really like to have an NFC rewards cards wallet. I hate carrying all those stupid cards around.

If my university implemented for time when we need to swipe our ID cards, then yes.

Pay for dinning hall and food court food, on-campus apartment building access, access after-hour buildings, library check out, printer sign in, parking meter payment, gym access and locker rental, sporting event "Loyalty Points" check in.

And for the location obsessed, automatic FourSquare, Facebook, and Twitter check in.

And it will start my car!

I don't think NFC is mainstream enough for me to bother with it, really. And maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I'd still prefer to pay with cash (assuming I'm not buying anything expensive).

NFC is dead to me. I have punched out the chips in all of my current cards, just in case.

With the plethora of NFC readers that people could carry and access your information, I'd rather sit this one out. It's sounds like the whole RFID scheme. Sure, would I like to breeze through a checkout without stopping? Yeah. The idea that anyone could know what I bought, would not be a cool idea, IMO. And as if I can't find it easy enough to spend their money...

Personally, I would love to clear out my wallet and just have access to all my cards with my phone. On the other hand I see this being as successful in the USA as Smartcards were. I was an early Smartcard tester and in total there was 1 Kentucky Fried Chicken 2 cities away and a few boutique shops that supported it, and that was in Silicon Valley!

I have seen some NFC readers around though, and would like to see something, anything, offer digital payment at vending machines.

I love tech, so when I get a phone with NFC, I'll probably play with it, but I certainly won't make any purchasing decisions based on it.
