It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who adopt the 'I don't use it, therefore it's useless' approach.
It happens with Newsstand, Stocks, Game Center, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, Weather App, etc. etc.
Does it really matter? They are all just icons, not life-threatening aliens!
Jeez!

Yes it does, but it works perfectly on my iPhone as well as my iPad. Why wouldn't it?

Rephrase: It makes A LOT more sense for the iPad. You just don't get the feeling of reading a magazine on 4-inch screen. It seems Apple knew that Newsstand wouldn't be popular so they stuffed it on their devices and made it so you couldn't delete it.

Yes, it is a better experience on a larger screen, but it's fine on the iPhone too.

Can't find much fault with newstand. I have few subscription about 6 paid ones and all works fine. Some of the subscriptions have contents enabled in which requires data but that's not newstand fault that's just the author of that particular magazine.

I have about 8 active subscriptions in my Newsstand. I think it was a wonderful addition to iOS but I'd like to see it in OS X as well in the future.

Don't use it. At all.

So to answer your question. It is VERY useless. For me.

You're right. It doesn't matter. But we're all simply answering the question, "How useless is Newsstand?"

I've had my iPad 2 since iOS 5 and greatly looked forward to the Newsstand feature in iOS 6. I know this is well past the time when such a comment should be noted, but with the iPad Mini encouraging lightweight portability for all things, including reading material, I have to ask...

WHY do I have to be connected either to iTunes and/or wifi to read the newspapers and/or magazines I spent a lot of time (not to mention MONEY) buying and downloading??? They aren't stored on the device! Why not?? I can download books and read them ANYWHERE!!! with or without wifi.

Now that I have an iPad Mini on the way, it will continue to be as useless for Newsstand as my iPad 2. SUCH a disappointment ... unless there's some secret to storing the Newsstand material ON the device??? Makes the expense of buying a truly portable iPad Mini seem way less than ideal.

Honestly, I think digital is the future of print publications. Why aren't they making it possible to carry them with you the way iBooks, Nook and Kindle do with books?

Never use it

i wish newsstand, stock, game center, passbook were all apps u "could" just download if u really want them like iBooks but noooo apple has to force their "advertisement" on us even though i'll never use it. google isnt even that ignorant on their OS

ironically the only mag i ever downloaded to try it out didnt even support the newsstand and gamecenter remains useless without saving gamestats like openfeint

thx god for the "hide xy" weak on cydia

Apple defaults apps in their OS is limited to what google has on android. It's ton more useless apps in their OS. Can't see the big issue though if you done use one app it's not like its stopping you from using your device.

I just noticed I have Newsstand on my iPhone 5 (had it on the very farthest home screen for perm-storage.) However, the magazines I subscribed to on the iPad 2's Newsstand aren't even available for the iPhone version of Newsstand. Interesting. I'm grateful I have the iPad 2 issues settled. But it appears the "What's the point?" question still applies to the iPhone 5's Newsstand.

Some are available and some are not. About half my mags subs are available on the iPhone Newsstand.

I just have a hyper link to news.google.com on my phone. google news hasn't let me down yet. Apple needs to step up if they want to try and compete.

What!?!
This thread was weird to start with, but that comment has topped the lot!
That's done it for me. I'm outta here.

I only have an iPhone, so for me it's useless.

Even when I had an iPad I didn't really use it. I'm just not interested with it.

I REALLY appreciate all your input, but I must be doing something wrong when I download magazines. I download the latest, but I don't always get to it right away. When I try to access a specific magazine without a wifi connecion (and this applies to all 5 I subscribe to), all I get is that I need a wifi connection to read the magazine. So, something isn't right in the way I do things.

I think the issue is the size of the file. Most magazines I get top 500 MB. That's a quarter of most people's data plans. Considering how my Windows notebook cost me about $30 last month because of phantom downloads in the background while I was using the iPhone as a hotspot, I am glad for that restriction.

I've downloaded the free Walmart Game Center mags. Didn't realize it was taking over 1GB of storage. Maybe I need a new iPad with more space.
