Most GOOD Newsstand content is not free...
I subscribe to Newsweek, Wired and Esquire. Get them delivered by push automatically so whenever I'm out and about I have them always with me.
Also there is one nice one free

I find all these publications exceptionally good in my iPad.
On the iPhone I only have "The Magazine" (paid) which is very good as well.
Of course if you are the type of person who wouldn't buy the magazines in paper then Newsstand makes no sense because you won't buy them. But I don't agree that it is useless.
