I keep telling the wife the 4 cars in my shop are a "collection." The reality is one is being restored, one is a driver and 2 are supposed to be parts cars (although one of them is too nice to strip and is now likely getting rebuilt). I don't keep track of how much they cost or how much I spend on them. I also have tons of spare parts to feed the hobby.

I have a pretty extensive comic collection (around 5000 comics).

I have an entire run of X-Men, (my issue 1 is graded an 8.5) as well as complete runs of Miracle Man, Excalibur and Hellboy.

I have a multitude of autographs, sketches and the like from comic artists and writers.

My prize possession (sentimentally) is when one of my artistic idols, Mark Beachum (Green Lantern: Mosaic, Vampirella, Amazing Spider-man), drew one of my characters as a surprise for me.

I collect video game stuff which don't really have lots of value. The most valuable (as in, was released cheap and now worth more) is my Famicom Gameboy Micro. Released at ~£70 now worth £300-400 boxed. I've also got a boxed copy of Super Metroid that goes for about 10x the original price I paid. But I don't sell anything, they're just nice to have!

My last collection was my movies which I sold off about three years ago because it was just getting pointless. Only so many times I can keep watching the same things along with it being so easy to find films online, library etc... Of course it's value dropped a lot.

Had comics which I also sold off even before my movie collection started in 2005.

My only current item you could call a collection is art and it was made for me and likely does not hold much value for anyone else. I have downscale a lot in my life to keep things simple. If someone broke in awhile I was out for weekend they would not even find much to take because I would have my computer etc... with me.

Are we talking the 1991 reboot of X-Men or 1963 version?

I don't know what it is, but I freaking love Hellboy. I have met Mike a few times at the various cons. Super cool guy and really down to earth. I have a few pieces of his also.

Not really a collection but noticed that, since books tend to die out , some of my architecture books are worth several hundred € a piece since they're out of print. Too bad I was too tight on money back in the days when I thought it crazy to buy it twice (one to use/work with and one to keep, um, save).

I'd rather have them still printing books though.

edit: just checked, the one I noticed is 1.200€ now. Heck, not 4 years ago I was debating to buy a second copy while visiting my girl in Barcelona..that'd have been 70€ well spend..

I've noticed that too with some of my graphic design/typesetting books. I'm now seriously regretting a few years back parting with one of my Paul Rand books, I'll probably not be able to replace it.

I used to have an extensive SF book collection, but I've gotten rid of most of it except for books by friends and people I've worked with.

My only collecting tendency now is my small vintage camera collection, which has tended to grow by one or two items a year.

The 1963 version. I inherited it when my dad passed away when I was a kid. He and my maternal uncle are the ones who got me into comics when I was a little girl. I recently had a chunk of the collection I inherited graded for insurance purposes.

Hellboy is some of the best storytelling in comics, in my opinion. I love everything about the world Mignola created, I love the characters, the mythology, all of it.

I'm currently working on collecting Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run, I have the hard covers but I'd love to get the singles as well.

Alien Comics, AvP Comics, all since 1986, that I've read every single one without my Mom knowing or my Mom would've killed my Dad if she ever found out. I'm the biggest Alien fan so I collect even the Novelization by Alan Dean Foster. I have about 47 novels, that are the same, but to me they are treasure. My comics are worth a fortune. Let alone other Dark Horse, and DC Comics that I've been hauling for the last almost 25 years with much love and care.
Now the value of my comics alone go anywhere from $5-8k. Most have been graded and they are collectors now. I have some that could sell easily for $300 per comic from my Alien and Batman Collection.
My husband collects baseball cards. I collect Alien cards as well and those aren't as pricey but they're worth a couple hundred bucks per collection.
Now for the figures now that's a different number. Our house has enough stuff we've gotten from Sideshow alone and that amounts to a good deal. It would've been more if our house wouldn't have gotten broken in to last year which they stole a substantial amount of figures, specially my Alien Busts that am slowly putting back together since some where hard finds and it didn't come to the insurance but more to actually finding them.
So. The collection is still growing. In a few years after my husband and I are gone, our two sons will have it all for themselves and it helps that as little as they are they are very enthusiastic and careful about this stuff to know to take care of them because on day it will go to them.

Sold most of my collectible baseball cards from Carlton Fisk rookie cards to Derek Jeter cards. Just have a few old basketball cards left... Danny Ainge rookie card errm *ducks*

I have a decent size baseball card collection, most early to late 80's. Lots of worthless stuff I am sure.

Mid-80s to 1993 were mass produced to the point of off-centered/poor paper quality, gum ruining cards in unopened packs so some rookie cards became more profitable for 89+ quality. Certain rookie cards from the Braves peak era, Clemens, Jeter & Posada are mainly the better cards to get graded. I'm thankful a well known auctioneer told me to up-trade all my good 80s-90s cards to 70s era before the bubble burst.

It is funny you mention Clemens, that is mainly who I collected. I have three of his 84 Fleer cards, two graded and one non-graded. I have a few 70's era cards and one complete 1973 Topps set (year I was born).

Very familiar with the whole mass produced cards. Ugh! Not to mention, the exact opposite, with 5-7 cards per pack costing hundreds of dollars! Ugh again!

Holy Smokes!:eek: re: 1963 X-Men! That is freaking awesome!

I have a few Alan Moore books. So far I have only really liked Watchmen and Neonomicon. Didn't like League at all. I haven't read his Swamp Thing run yet though.

* Figure collector - about hundreds of dollars, so far.
* Soccer jersey collector - about hundreds of dollars as well, so far.
* Sticker collector - alittle less than the other 2

I collect figures due to my childhood and the cartoons i used to see when i was a kid. Nostalgia makes me happy for some reason. So in a way im buying my happiness each figure at a time. Im so glad that i grewup at a time (80's & 90's) when there was the best cartoons unlike now.
The soccer jerseys i collect cause im a big sports fan, my top 2 sports is soccer and baseball. i like the way the soccer jerseys just look. plus you can wear them with about anything and they look great.
Now the stickers, i guess since i was born and raised in NYC and have always seen stickers and graffitti around my hometown so now its just second nature to like stickers.

I've got many old coins ranging from a 100 years old to ancient periods from Europe to Arabia to Asia. They've been verified and are insured. I won't be posting the value. I was more into collecting them when I was younger. I will admit to hunting coins during my travels and not clearing it with that country's customs, simply because I wanted it.

I actively collect first edition books, also insured. I enjoy reading so this is a dual benefit for me. I've given stamp collecting a go a few times. I usually steam off cool looking stamps or ones on mail that came from other countries. I've got other cool stuff like small 50-100 gram bars of precious metals. I've got a few small bars of Welsh gold.

The coins are the best though. You could have a few coins that were minted 600 years ago by workers and you're holding history in your hand. That history may have paid for an evening of pleasure from the local woman of the night or paid for groceries or whatever really.
