iPhone X How was the Gorilla Glass on the X?

No protection for my X screen and it is like new.

Same for me. First time I haven’t used a tempered glass screen protector on my iPhone and it’s held up extremely well..

How good was the glass on the iPhone X? I ask because traditionally, I've only ever put a case on my iPhone's. Somehow, I got a very deep scratch on my current iPhone 7, which has bugged the heck out of me for the past year. This experience has me considering a tempered glass protector for my newly ordered iPhone XS.

I'm really thinking or hoping my screen mishap on my 7 was an isolated occurrence, and that I will be good without a tempered glass protector.

All that said, can you current X owners give me any insight as to how the glass has held up over the last year without a protector?

I have two micro scratches, and one very small thick scratch (like 1/8 or 1/4 inch maybe). The micros are unnoticeable unless I look really hard and at specific angles and lighting, with the screen off. The thicker scratch is in the upper left quadrant of the screen, and I sometimes notice it on white backgrounds, like on Facebook or something. You can very faintly see the rgb colors refracting through the scratch.

I always keep my phones naked, and am always rather careful with them. They go in my pocket, on my bathroom counter, on my desk at work, and in my cup holder while driving. Not exactly sure where the scratches came from. Though I have dropped it a few times, on the office carpet at work as well as my bathroom tile, so that’s a possibility. I always check immediately after a drop and don’t find anything. These were all noticed just randomly looking one day.

But I would still never use a screen protector. They ruin the feel and aesthetic of the phone, especially the sleekly unified X style. It’s just so smooth, everywhere. I wouldn’t be able to stand the feeling of the edge of the screen protector every time I swipe from the bottom, or the sides of the screen.

I have never had glass protectors on my phones and this will not sway me towards them. I hate them. They make the phone not feel as good to the touch and decrease sensitivity (from my experience, Idk if they've changed for the better since then). They are the condom of the phone world.

Yep agree. The The smoothness of the iPhone X screen is perfect. Although it is prone to hairline scratches I would never use a protector. It ruins the whole experience of your daily use of the phone. Smoothness and seeing the colours how they should be is better than catching the edge of a protector

I believe it was prone to hairline scratches due to the change of the oleophobic Coating. But either way, the iPhone X display seemingly did scratch easier, but you have to expect that if someone doesn’t use a screen protector.

The iPhone X glass is definitely more prone to scratching compared to iPhone 7 or 8. I have lots of hairline scratches on x with same wear and tear that I had for my iPhone 7 Plus where I had none.

I asked In Apple store as I’ve got a small chip on my screen. She said it has to be significant damage that affects the use of the screen. Ie crack. My chip was deemed just normal wear and tear and so is not covered.

I got the 8 and have scratches all over mine. I’ve owned every iPhone and never had that problem before.

Whichever version of GG they used on last gen (8 / X) was just more prone to scratching.

My X was the worst of any iPhone I have had to date. It for some reason has many deep scratches when none of my other iPhones(in 10 years) had this issue.

Me too for some reason. I never use any type of case or screen protector and have never had scratches on any of my iPhones ever. Both my Xs got deep scratches all over the screen from seemingly nowhere. I don’t understand it. Weirdly I see people making the same comment all the time. Very strange.
