I use linux but... I can copy mac specs and build a pc for oftentimes almost 50% less than the mac, I just dont understand that premium, because it looks cool? shop around you can buy all sorts of fancy cases and monitors if you build it yourself. what else needs to be said.

I'm coming to this thread late - work intervened that past few days and I was unable to dedicate any time at MR.

Like what many other people have already posted. I wouldn't counter an argument. I'd simply say, that the <insert your macintosh model here> fits my needs more then a PC/Linux machine could or would. I've used linux, and I use windows, XP and win7. While you can build your own linux box for a lot cheaper, you miss out on OSX and the OSX apps. I'm sorry but there's huge difference between what's available on linux and OSX.

As for windows, that's strictly a personal preference, someone like windows, no biggie, its a great OS. I like OSX, its a great OS. We're not talking about religion and salvation here. One person likes PCs another Macs - live and let live

If someone asked me why I bought it, I wouldn't even waste my time with the technical stuff. "Because I've used both (Windows and Mac) and I like this one better". End of story.

I don't justify the style of shoes I'm wearing, or the color of my shirt, or what I chose to eat for lunch. Answer is the same in all cases "Because I like it". "If you don't like it, fine, who cares, buy something else then".

Dollar cost is irrelevant. You can get a cheap Honda that gets you from point A to point B for very little money. It will be reliable, and will work just fine. But to some people, who appreciate quality engineering and design, and attention to detail, it's worth paying more for the Mercedes or the Porsche.

That is what I say. I also tell them that I was sick of fixing the Windows machine I used daily. I support the computers in my company so I will still be using Windows, but I am very happy to use a Mac for my personal computer and it doing everything I did with it on Windows.

The only thing that I have not figured out how to do yet is merge 2 pdfs together (With Windows I have Adobe Standard 9 which allows you to delete or add pages of a pdf file, so sometimes if I have two pdf files that I want to combine I can simply add pages to one pdf and point to the other)
