Does it actually limit, or only warn you when to unplug?
It tells you when to unplug - old school notifications. It's an older application. At least, that's what I saw when I bought it.

Edit: I'm wrong! See @Apple_Robert 's post.

It works the same on the M1. There is no user setting to change the amount of charge. The app is built on Apple's battery charging specs.
So, how does it know when to stop charging, and how will you know in advance at what % it will stop?

With Better Battery 2, it will allow the battery to charge to 100% at times. However, it doesn't stay there. It will slowly allow the battery to drain a little. The developer is also a member here.
@MrWillowstreet He can explain it better than me, as to how what information the app uses as a guideline for charging etc.

ok, will send him a message. Do you know if that functionality is in both paid and non-paid versions?

"The Pro Edition enables the history functionality. Available as an InApp purchase, it adds a range of information, features and charts, as well as the total battery and usage time of your MacBook. Better Battery 2 records data such as capacity, charge cycles, the charge/discharge curve for the last 36 hours as well as the time your MacBook is charging, fully charged and/or used on battery power. The app also records the time that your MacBook is in the optimal range for lithium-ion batteries (40 - 80%). Or it tells you, how much time you've been using the computer and gives recommendations for a daily minimal battery time. You can view all recorded data in easy-to-read charts and reports."

If I am not mistaken, the app gathers data and presents it in the menu bar. It doesn't drain the battery itself. That is merely a function of the OS that the app is recording.

Ok, thanks. Probably from the "Optimized Battery Charging" option.

Yes. I haven't seen my MacBook battery get below 92% thus far. For a battery that sat dead for over 2 years, I am impressed that it is working at 100% ability.

In my opinion, Apple's Optimized Battery feature isn't much of a real feature. AlDente seems to be much better at this kind of thing, provided one has a Mac that can run the pro version of AlDente.

I've had my M1 Air now for 33 days and have used it every day for long periods of time and still at 100%. I use AlDente 2.2 and use a feature it calls "Allow Discharge", keeping my charging capacity at 50%. I only allow 100% charge when I know I will not be close to a charging source and will need my Air. My cycles are 11.

Does 11 cycles sound normal for my usage?

Yes, but your true battery health needs to be read by a 3rd party app. Try coconutBattery, they have a free version (but the paid is excellent and worth it).

I'm sure this is good advice and why Apple gives my M1 MBA 100% health in the Battery Pref Pane > Battery Health and in SI > Power, when ioreg -w 0 -f -r -c AppleSmartBattery (also used by Better Battery 2 and Coconut) gives 95% after five months and 24 cycles.

My capacity history supports what you say about daily fluctuations but I seem to have lost over 3% on one day between March 7th and March 8th. This looks like a clear change outside the daily fluctuations. Any thoughts?

By way of an update on my M1 MBA Battery Health....further confirming that:

1. Day to day fluctuations don't mean much.
2. Health percentage can go up as well as down.
3. Apple is justified in presenting a heavily damped number in the Pref pane and SI...mine has been 100% throughout the period shown.

Machine was new on 21st Nov 2020. Plugged in nearly 24/7. Used Apple Optimised Charging until mid Feb, but only saw it do anything once. Used AlDente at 70% since mid Feb.
