Gotcha...wasn't arguing that it was/wasn't a possibility, just sharing my experience. I do tend to be pretty careful plugging it in--even by hand.

O/T--what dock are you using? I've been looking for a decent bed stand dock for my mini (that also allows charging) so I can also use it as my alarm clock. The last couple of years, my wife and I have switched to solely using our iPhones as alarms...but the mini is a perfect 'clock' for the bedside. Some of the apps are pretty cool as far as digital clock design.

Also--is your dock only for portrait or does it also allow landscape 'docking'?

Thanks!
J

This Dock

I am careful with it and I am not having any issues with mine as far as dents, dings, scratches, etc. etc.

Everything functions just as well as it did when I first bought it, even better with software upgrades.

Buy a case

Got a little $20 logix leathery case for my mini. When I take it out of the case, the mini looks brand new. Isn't this the point of a case?

It's a no brainer. Put it in a case and your mini will "hold up" just fine. Leave it out and it will get scratched and dinged up eventually. Just like anything.

These kind of threads seem like troll bait.

Had mine since day 1 and it's great! No scratches or dings. I leave the house with it probably twice a week and watch tv in bed every night with it. I love it!

I am yet another "launch day" purchaser with only a smart cover (third party with aluminum hinge), and it looks exactly like the day I took it out of the box.

I keep mine in a Khomo back case that has a smart cover-like front and I take my iPad out every so often just to check the wear and tear. Happy to report that after two months the iPad mini still looks brand new.

No problems at all with mine that Ive had since launch... Im using a smartcover (which only really protects the screen itself)

I've had mine since Christmas, and have noticed some VERY light scuffing on the chamfered edge (black model, so it's a little easier to notice). One of these was out of the box, and since then I've developed at least one on each side of the device. I only use a Smartcover, but I've been very careful with it.

Still, not a dealbreaker. It's not noticeable at all at a glance, and requires very up close examination to even notice.

I have gotten a few quite noticeable scratches on the back of my beloved Mini, I would actually wan't to claim that it's quite easy to scratch. The aluminum back of the larger iPads are more resistent to scratches

Mine holds up great! But I bought a Belkin case short after purchase, so it's pretty safe against scratch, bump and drop damage (not that I dropped it yet).
I also like the fact that my case makes it look like a pocket diary/agenda.
Performance of my ipad mini holds up great, as expected for my uses.
And with the screen I'm still fully contented.

About the audio and lightning port, how does one damage those when inserting? There's a plastic edge around those openings. Anyway hasn't happened to me yet.

I kept mine pristine in a cheap vinyl case for a month after using it for a month with no case at all. When the wifi antenna died AppleCare replaced it with one that had a 3 inch scratch across the back and tried to get me to keep it as it is only "cosmetic" damage.
