There is something to be said for this.

However, 24 hours of standby time (what some are experiencing) is just unacceptable. Once I can confirm that my standby battery usage is stable, I am willing to turn of the % and not worry about the battery drain when I am using the phone. But I want to make sure their battery life is withing the range or "reasonable" since I've invested hundreds of dollars and a 2 year contract into it.

There's a real issue with the battery for most people and, at least for me, it has nothing to do with obsessing about it. My iPhone 4 lasted me all day with no issues ever. My iPhone 4S doesn't make it past 3pm on a typical work day unless I am in the office and able to charge it. That is a REAL problem for many people including myself.

If the battery for you is fine but just a little worse than the 4 then that's great. But turning off the battery % isn't going to magically make my phone last me through a day. It's not an issue with obsession...it's a real problem with the device.

By the number of "up votes" your original post received, I see that many people here think Apple can do no wrong and that people are just "obsessing." I'm sure I'll get a ton of "down votes" for telling you that you're wrong and that this is a real issue and a major one at that.

EDIT: Oh and unless you believe that my phone will last on 1% for 4+ hours, this image should prove my point.

Currently, I have the Battery Indicator ON, is that mean the % is off? Where in Settings do you go to turn on and off %?

That's amazing! Apple should make you their Go-To-Software Engineer whenever their engineers in Cupertino can't figure things out.
Good, because i applied to their internship program.

Once again, read the ENDING..THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO until Apple finds the issue and fixes it. They have publicly announced they KNOW and are working to find the cure of the issue...Until then, call Apple tell them to send you a new phone and thats it..Its not hard to get a new phone from apple. But until then you are causing stress over something OUT OF YOUR HANDS.
here endeth the partaaay.
I know lol

This should be flagged for being a retarted post

Im the guy who drinks the contents in the cup.

Before we ordered my wife her 4S, I was a little worried about the battery life issues - but so far we have experienced none.

It seems like there are a minority of users that are having a real issue (perhaps related to battery draining services they are using that others are not?), but for most this seems like a non-issue.

I agree with you 100%!!!!

I dont obsess about the batterygate issue but i need a battery that can keep up with me and my business. I own a auto repair business and 24/7 towing. My typical day is 16hours at a min but most days are touching the 20 hour mark. Due to the battery drain from alot of useage of my phone i have about 6 different chargers at differnt locations thru out my day ( bedside, office,shop,3 different service trucks). My whole busines can be and has been ran thru my phone...alot

Not complaining at all. But when i relized my battery couldnt keep up with my useage i just made sure it was chargn whenever possable.

lol thumbs up to this thread because I did the same.

I normally keep my % on, but recently turned it off because I know there's some battery issues with iOS 5.

Luckily, based on my usage, I never get near "red" but I like to know where it is. Once I turned it off I found I don't check it as often and start playing with things seeing if I can adjust it. Which, in reality, doesn't matter since I'm never critical anyways!

Actually a lot of people are over-obsessing.

this.

Heres my take, for most people this is a good piece of anti-obsession advice. There are some people that have serious battery problems, who know this is a problem. Exchange the phone. If you don't know if you have a problem like many of the people posting in these threads, then this will probably work.

There's a real issue with the battery for most people ...
don't you mean: You may have a 'real issue'???

I don't believe it's an issue for 'most' as you say! You can't just go around pulling majorities out of your *** without any official statistics to back up your claim.

Both my wife and I now have 4s'! I've had mine since launch day and after 7 or 8 full power cycles, I'm now getting about 6 hours usage. She's only had hers for two weeks and is already getting 5.5 hours usage after only 3 or 4 power cycles. Mine came with iOS5 loaded and still runs it (didn't have an issue, so I didn't bother updating), hers came with 5.0.1 and doesn't have any issues either! A friend of mine also has a 4S and doesn't have any problems with his! one of my wife's work colleagues has a 4S and doesn't have battery issues - that's 4\4 ..and you claim we're in the minority?

Get a clue.

With the batterygate thread already over 3,100 posts and 12 of my colleagues, 2 of my siblings and 6 of my friends all having battery issues, I'm pretty sure it's a safe assumption that there is an issue with either the device or the OS. If you don't have the issue, you're usage pattern may not activate it but it's 100% clear that an issue exists. Apple needs to determine what is causing it and fix it asap.

You're the one that need to "get a clue."

where in my post did I say there wasn't an issue for some? and quite a few of the posts in the batterygate thread are by those not experiencing problems, but trying to offer advice on a cure, others have posted a few times. So you need to stop trying to kid folk with your unproven figures and produce factual evidence of your wildly off the mark and increasingly fantastical claims!

'12 of my colleagues..' really? you're starting to sound like a regular Walter Mitty.

Mind Over Matter!

...heavy usage is the culprit people...you like the phone, you use it a lot...of course the battery is going to run down...wise up! :)

But the question is... is there really an issue, or is it that people's expectations are out of whack? My 4S lasts usually 16+ hours of moderate use, and comes in with 20-40% of the battery left. Maybe that's less than a 4 would. I don't know. But it's a lot better than my Android phone, and more life than I actually need, so to me, it's great.

I can promise you that not everyone is experience battery gate..They just like to bitch and moan because they are not getting 10 hours of battery life like advertised.

you have a real issue if you are going down 1-2% for doing nothing or little to nothing. And even then why would you sit here and bitch and moan, just call apple and force a new phone to be sent to you. Noto hard..you guys just like to find a reason to complain and not use your resources when handed to you...And again,SOFTWARE issue, its being figured out. Its not a hardware issue so we won't get a b.s excuse from Apple..Teh fix is coming, you can wait get a new phone..You don't want to get a new phone, don't complain.

And the thread has 3k+ answers because even people who DONT have the issue think they do because of the mass hysteria everyone is causing..AND TO ADD TO IT. you are going to a thread where the title is basically COME BITCH about the battery..Apple has sold millions of iPhones..And the thread has maybe 200 LEGIT issues...The rest of the post are form people like you who like to keep beating a dead horse and keep complaining.

You don't go to a forum and expect threads to be "i love my phone".No you go to a forum 8/10 to bitch and about an issue you are having. So YES that thread is going to be cluttered..Use the intelligence given to you when your common sense walked out,at least.

I think the 1% of corrupt iPhones is fine as far as the ratio of NONE issue iPhones go...And again, the patch is coming..Stop complaining get a new phone or stop complaining and don't get a new phone..Either way you sound like a 16 year old sweet 16 MTV brat who just got a bmw but wanted a lexus.
