People need to stop being totally pro Apple and open up to other possibilties :)

On this site? :)

Seriously, this won't compete much against the iPad, but it will probably do very well against the Android tablets. Think of HP and Google fighting over who gets to be second place in the market (and poor Microsoft in last place).

Apple will announce and release the iPad 2 before this is released. Folks won't even remember these devices by then.

Sadly with their track history that is a valid question. They did this with the Pre and look how that turned out.

Let's not forget that this is a different company now. HP has a proven track record and it's an industry leader. Concidering they just fairly recently acquired Palm I think this is a huge move for HP and WebOS.

Isn't this site supposed to offer Apple rumors and news? May as well start displaying PC product releases, as they are competition to the iMac.

Rubinstein continues to trash his own reputation with this other line of rip offs.

Jon takes credits for the iPod when the designs came from Ivy.

How long does HP think Apple will wait before it hammers them with dozens of Patent infringements on this clone?

The fact is the price for the iPad competition is about to skyrocket with the amount of memory and panel production pre-bought by Apple.

HP is going to have to invest billions, along with Moto and anyone else who wants to go after Apple just to be able to acquire some of the basic materials.

Apple is going to expand their ownership in this space.

Compared to the current iPad this sounds good. The iPad 2 will be released 3-6 months before this device. By the time this comes out it will be competing with the iPad 2. I think compared to the iPad 2, this device will seem pretty ho-hum.

I like it - specially the fact that it support FULL web (as in Flash)

Very cool stuff!

However, I hate the size and resolution :(

Don't be so serious. I enjoy reading gadget news. This sure is macrumors but it doen's mean it can't post news about other devices

At CES in 2010 HP announced a 7" tablet called the Slate, this announcement was conveniently timed just before the release of the iPad. That device changed significantly and took a long time to get to market.

I think it is safe to say that HP has a proven track record of marketing vaporware to hinder the sales of competing products.

Just learned that TouchPad isn't going to be out until summer.

Tech companies: APPLE ***** on you guys because they release things in a timely matter after announcement, how the **** have you not learned this yet??

HP boardroom - "Guys, we've got a great device here, you know what we should do? Demo it 6 months before we actually release it and let Apple just solidify their lead with their actual shipping product!"

"Genius! Get this man a raise!"

Dumbasses.

Not only that, HP will not sell any Pre 2 devices when it shows people what they can wait for. In the meantime, if they're waiting, they will see competing devices like the iPhone 5 and won't sell anything.

I think HP's TouchPad is the closest thing to competition for the iPad. Even Honeycomb Android isn't close to good... but the TouchPad is amazing and competes well. If only it was ready, they might actually sell some to people done with buying the original iPad.

In all honesty, I cannot wait for the iPad 2, and I won't be buying the TouchPad. Competition is great though. I like the FaceTime like capabilities of the TouchPad, and I really understand why they didn't include an opposite side camera, BUT if the iPad 2 has one then that's one thing less capable already by the TouchPad.

Wow... that is a shameless rip off.....

It has some additions compared to the iPad1 (like the camera) but many other things are not known (like battery live) ... so it *might* be better than the iPad1 ..... but the funny part is, when it finally comes to the market, the updated and better iPad2 will already be on the market for 6 month. It is basically getting outdated even before it hits the market.

So, they announced a tablet to be released some time this summer for a price yet to be determined? OooooKay

HP just announced that WebOS is coming to PCs! This makes things very interesting.

That is definitely an important piece of the puzzle. If WebOS will be part of HPs printers, PCs and other net connected devices it will take on a life of its own and develop an ecosystem much more easily than if it is limited to a few devices.

Dropping the Palm name seems like a catastrophic decision. "HP Pre?" Really?

The TouchPad design looks like an iPhone 3GS clone. Meaning far cheaper-looking than the iPad or the iPhone 4.

And a "summer" (June? August?) release spells doom too. By then the iPad 2 - and countless Android variations - will be in consumers' hands.

I fear a bleak future for Palm. Er, the mobile division of HP.

I still wish Apple had bought Palm for its patent portfolio and interesting interface elements that could be incorporated into iOS - eliminating a potential competitor in the process. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Oh yeh....then prove it!

HP my second choice after Apple

Jus got my parents an HP desktop and it's quite nice. If I had to switch back to Windows I would go HP. That is highly unlikely, I can't wait for the iPad 2. This competition looks good.
