Why not stay with Web OS hp!! they could compete with apple by offering vertical solution with software + hardware.
lots of promising stuff when palm introduce the Web OS...

My guess is the ecosystem was not there. Considering its very hard coming off with a new OS with not a lot of apps or guarantee that any third party developers would make new ones.

Apple is in big trouble. Maybe not right now, but it's around the corner. Here's why: consumers are beginning to equate smartphones and tablets not just with Apple. For instance, my family sees all tablets as essentially the same. They don't distinguish between Android, Windows 8 and iOS. They just see a tablet or a smartphone. The market is changing. The flooding of the market with cheap Android handsets and competitive 7" tablets is causing Apple to lose the PR battle about whose tablet is best.

There will always be cheaper tablets on the market. But they will nearly always sacrifice something because of the price.

You want a tablet that works decently at a cheap price? Plenty of Android options out.

Want a fast, responsive tablet with a large selection of high quality of Applications? Well you know.

I fear for Apple. Again, not right now, but a year from now. Apple no longer has a flagship "market changing" product and has shown little desire to compete.

I don't think you have been watching the market very closely. The iPad mini comes to mind as well as a 128GB storage option. Updated with a new smaller/reversible connector.

Microsoft is converging their desktop and mobile operating systems, which is a smart thing to do. Ultimately and in a perfect world, the user experience between desktop and mobile devices should be transparent. We will get there eventually

A big mistake in my opinion. Merging tablet and desktop that can't really do neither very well. I believe Apple got this right by leaving both operating systems separate and intergrading the same applications of both through the iCloud. Thats how you can get a more transparent integration between tablet & desktop.

But who will be leading the pack?

Probably not Microsoft, if they keep on their current path.

I have sent emails to Tim Cook begging Apple to do something, anything, to counter this rising tide of dissatisfaction among consumers and especially the media and stock analysts.

The same dissatisfied customers that continue to buy Apple products in droves?

This is good news for webOS. I mean really, if you're working with HP after Leo Apotheker, that's bad enough. I remember when I had a Pre. It was fine, just that the hardware sucked. Smart TV is the way to go for it, in my opinion.
