agreed...plus they are trying to rebuild their image from the last couple of disasters. So they want to keep that flagship brand image and charge accordingly. IMHO they could have sold it at even or for a loss but then it would diminish their brand.

This phone is Google play edition back from the dead!

No carrier interference , stock + some goodies, and unlockable bootloader means root or roms if you want. Totally reversible with warranty support too. Check, check, check!

Too bad the unlocked version is not CDMA too, biggest downside is GSM only, Verizon will surely lock it down and bloat it up, but we'll see

I still don't understand how HTC goes from being the leader of Android to becoming completely irrelevant. Their downfall is unbelievable. They just don't know how to run the company. This phone is the perfect example of that. You can't just charge $699 for it and expect S7 buyers to jump ship. Not happening.

Once pre-orders don't meet their unrealistic expectations, we will see a price drop soon.

The world of cars is also a little slower to move than electronics and smartphones too. Whereas a particular car model can take anywhere from 4-8 years for a new refresh, smartphones are refreshed every year.

While comparing cars, it might be more apt to compare HTC to Mitsubishi in the US. They were more prominent in the past, but have since been hit with hard times. Instead of focusing on flagship models like the Lancer Evolution, 3000GT or high spec Galant, they're focusing on cheaper, more mainstream, high-volume, sellers like the Mirage and Outlander. Seems to be working out for them.

If you want to compare smartphones to cars, maybe HTC has more in common with Mitsubishi than it does Hyundai/Kia. If that's the case, they would do well to work on a worthy update to the A9.
 
I'll wait and see when this inertia my releases and people upgrade and decide to sell on their upgrades instead. I got the M9 for very cheap only 10 days after launch from someone who used their upgrade but didn't want the phone.

Sense 7 was getting a little too bloated compared to Sense 5/6 with more and more bells & whistles added to the OS that to me it lost s lot of the coherent focus that the previously fresh new Sense versions had.

Hopefully that has been addressed here and we're back to customisation but not at the expense of experience.

Other than that looks promising.
 
Very nice phone but don't really care tbh.

If you've already got a great phone, there is no temptation to switch to this.

Well at the exact same price (in the UK at least, not sure about the States), both are actually very similar. Still, both have their advantages.

S7:
-AMOLED
-Smaller footprint
-Better looking for many
-Waterproofing
-Wireless charging
-Bigger option

10:
-USB-C
-Quick Charge 3.0 (twice as fast as the S7)
-Better software for many
-Better build for many
-Far quicker updates

Camera, battery life and performance appear to be the same on both.

Of course, build, looks and software are subjective, but they are some of the most important aspects, and I'm sure many will agree with my views. I would personally go with the 10, if I could get over how beautiful the S7 is, because charging, software and updates are important to me.

Very true. As overall packages, they're the closest they've ever been. That's good because HTC hasn't been even close since the M7, something always held it back.

This is basically the Nexus 5P everyone wanted, only better. And given that Google tends to load up the phablet phones, this might be the one.

After going through the early hands on write ups and videos, the HTC 10 really is looking promising. I can see why this would be a great counter option to Samsung. They both, I think, will end up offering android users two really great options, each with their own exclusive strengths.

And I'd most certainly get this over the lg g5. The g5 I think will go on to be a bit p more of a niche android device, for those who want to really tinker with the possibilities of modularity. But didn't lg say the g5 is selling well?

Android space will continue getting very interesting, especially if all the OEMS keep offering solid options. Imagine if Motorola/lenovo come out with their own solid moto x update? The choices will be amazing...
 
Maybe for its size would be a consideration for me but nothing really else steers me towards it for $599 versus the Moto X Pure I bought for $299. And that was one of last year's best smartphones especially for the selling price at release day price.

The price was the reason I returned the 6P as well for the Moto X Pure instead. And I really would choose the 6P again if given the choice versus the M10 if the Moto was not in the mix.

Someone slap me, maybe I'm dreaming cause being sensible has not been in my arsenal in the past. 🙂

It is funny how things shifted a little in the Android world. HTC just became a contender and LG kinda slipped a little.....
 
I can't really get behind the HTC 10 when the price is set at $1000 for it in Canada. That's the exact same price as the S7 Edge and $100 more than the S7 which it trades blows with.

I'm having a hard time seeing the logic in pricing it against the S7 Edge when in reality it competes with the S7. I feel like there almost pricing themselves out of the market due to this.

I'll wait for further reviews to see what the HTC 10 is really like but I don't think I'll be returning my S7 Edge once it arrives and picking up the HTC.

I understand not selling in an AT&T store will cause them to lose sales, but we need to get away from this kind of carrier bloat.

Plus, phones like the 5x and 6p and Moto XPE prove that you can buy a carrier unbranded phone and still get VoLTE, etc. from Verizon, AT&T, etc. At least I know I had great experience with the 5x/6p/Moto XPE on Verizon. VoLTE worked wonderfully as did calls, data, texts, etc. on Verizon. So it can be done without the carrier.

EDIT: didn't realize VoLTE on AT&T didn't work on non-carrier phones. that's a shame. Works great on Verizon!

Good to know! I'll be tempted to pre-order when they have the Verizon variant ready (if it comes via non-carrier channels). Hopefully the $100 coupon will work then, too!

How about wifi calling? I'm guessing this will be limited to carrier branded versions if available at all. As much as I'm not a fan of many of AT&T's practices, wifi calling on my iPhone (and any other of my Apple devices, including my Apple Watch when only on wifi) has been terrific. Not sure I could give it up again.

Yeah, I don't have AT&T so don't really know what they typically provide, but the tweet says "full AT&T support". However given that only iOS devices have it from what I have seen, seems doubtful. Wifi calling is for sure support with the HTC 10 on T-mo, but they have allowed it on the Nexus devices as well.

And for Verizon, really hoping they still offer a non-branded version that is compatible. It is interesting the unlocked phone says it supports CDMA bands, but not Verizon at this time. So guessing they still need to jump through some hoops there for certification.

surf donkey's twitter quote bodes well for volte, if they allow volte I would wager wifi calling, carrier aggregation, whatever other magic sauce will come along with it.

I hope at least. Otherwise I will never buy another android phone for use on ATT. I did not know they blackball the features on nexus phones. F!!

Adoptable storage, too? For the micro SD expansion? Nice.

I still prefer the S7 Edge's advantages, but HTC is making mostly the right moves here.
