a) the use of the word haters is overused. Just because people critique something doesn't make them haters. In fact - I would bet the majority of people on here lodging complaints are definitely NOT haters but people who are frustrated.

b) None of my friends have ever been to the North Pole - but that doesn't mean I think it doesn't exist.

a) There is a definite difference between haters and legit complainers. it's very easy to tell the difference. My post was aimed at the haters only. And if you don't think there are a ton of them on this forum, it's because you don't want to see them.

b) this point is irrelevant. I've never claimed there is no reception issue.

I think we are flogging a dead horse with these threads...Apple has spoken...PERIOD!!!!!

This is how I and many other people hold phones in our left hands. You must do something different.

So you can actually, and in a natural way that doesn't make you cock your left hand back at an unnatural angle, keep that same grip when moving the phone to your ear as opposed to holding it out away from your face like in that picture?

If that is the case, and you live in an area with a weak signal, and don't like using any bumpers or cases (which are now free by the way), then i'd probably return it for the full refund and get something else.

Honestly i don't know how anyone would call the "death grip" the normal way to hold a phone (unless they had an agenda).

I literally have to crank my hand at a 90 degree angle to my forearm to use the death grip while on a call. All the haters call it the natural way to hold the phone....pure BS.

can you post a pic of this? If I hold the phone fully in my hand, from my arm at my side, I can raise the phone straight to my ear without bending my wrist in the slightest way. Unless your flailing your arm out in a way to specifically contort it...

No freaking way. People really hold their phone with that much hand and fingers on the thing? How uncomfortable!

I squeeze the bottom between my thumb and middle finger. I support the back with my index finger. Right or left handed... I'll have a finger over the bad spot on the 4. We'll see what it does.

:D I'm going to have to start watching how people hold their phones now.

That's exactly how I would hold the phone to my ear.

What do you mean by cocking your left hand back at an angle? I'm having a hard time imagining exactly what you mean.

Why do you think that calls are the only thing affected?

For calling it was easy enough to switch hands; however, for surfing and typing emails this is the most natural way to hold it if you are right handed**. I hold it like this and press/type with my right finger(s). I could hold it with a couple of well placed fingers but the amount of pressure I would have to use to keep the phone secure would become fatiguing quickly.

Unfortunately, the base of my left had bridges the gap.

No BS and no agenda.

**Obviously it would be idiotic to say everyone did this, but I'd hazard a guess that the majority of right handed people hold their previous phones/iPhones like this when using the internet.

Haha, just tried it your way. It works but it just feels much more flimsy. I'd be too afraid to drop the phone if I held it that way.

I just tried it and yes, i can say i do hold the phone that way when surfing the net in portrait mode. Hmm...all i can say is i've never noticed any reception issues when surfing. Which is odd because i do a lot of surfing in my basement while watching TV, and i typically only get 1 or 2 bars in my basement.

ps: i'll add that i probably do more surfing in landscape mode because i find it much easier to type that way. But still i use portrait mode probably 30 or 40% of the time and never remember losing signal or having issues with data speed.

By the way, i'm not saying in any way that the iphone is perfect. I have had proximity sensor issues and am hoping for an update in the next patch on that. Reception though? Hasn't affected me one iota.

Look at the picture. If i bring the phone to the side of my face holding it exactly like that, the phone is too high in relation to my mouth and ear to be in the proper position for a phone call. The most natural way for me to alleviate this issue is to hold my arm at a slighty different angle and cock the phone back in my hand to put it in the right position...if i want to hold it in the "death grip" style. For me...very uncomfortable.

so, the natural way for me to hold it is on my fingertips basically. I have my pinky supporting the bottom of the phone, my 3 middle fingers on the right edge, and my thumb on the left edge. This is the way i've always held any cell phone.

/shrug. Maybe my way is much more uncommon than i thought.

Sam, the term "haters" is just another example of sheep-speak, which is way too common on message boards. A term gains some steam, and suddenly, original thought is tossed out the window and a large number of people start using the new, cool buzzword in order to fit in. The herd mentality, if you will. Just look at "fail", "cool story bro", "win", etc. for examples. Original conversation is disappearing. The worst part is that "haters" is now synonymous with anyone who has a point of view different than the party line. At least the guy who used it here, buc, was able to make the distinction. But for most, dissenting opinions or ideas aren't intelligently debated anymore - they are immediately tossed into the "hater" category.

You got it all wrong. "Hater" is actually used to protect preferences and styles that differ from the mainstream. When a stated preference or style is different from mainstream tastes, it is common for it to come under attack. At that point the person under siege can simply say "haters gonna hate", thereby dismissing the vitriolic attacks as nothing but harmless jealousy from "haters".

Never said I was upset with the phone. Mine works, but I know a lot of people's don't.

I don't buy that for a second. Everyone has the same issue. Its just a matter of how much guff one wants to give apple. As if we weren't all going to put a case on it anyway....
