I hope 3D phones don't become the new thing. I cant stand 3D movies, let alone on a phone. I find it strains my eyes and gives me a headache. If there is 3D tech in the next iPhone, I seriously hope I can switch it off

Apple wont 3D is a FAD I agree I hate it also

from what I have seen of the 3D phones it looks pretty cool. I am not sure how they are doing it with out glasses but I have read it looks pretty good.

I think people are getting too caught up with the 3D capability of this phone. In addition to that, "EVO 3D, this one rocking a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (Qualcomm's MSM8660), a 4.3-inch qHD ( 960 x 540) display, dual 5 megapixel cameras around back, and the sweet, sweet promise of 1080p video playback." (from Engadget). This thing is a beast with 1 GB RAM.

Agreed. I've had EVERY iteration of the iPhone and have stood in lines many hours long. This year, with this phone, looks to be the time that I switch to Android. Never thought I'd say it- but it's the truth.

You'll NEVER see me on a Windows PC tho;)

I completely agree, and they're using the EVO tech on a 7" tablet as well. Hopefully the iPad will get some good competition so it'll step up it's game, just like the iPhone.

Agreed. Apple makes great innovative products. However, when no one challenges them, they release only minor updates to their product lines- IMHO. Case in point- the iPad 2.

Same. For the most part I don't like 3D but purely because if the glasses. Take away the glasses and it will not be a fad, it will be the next thing. Not sure that we "need" it on a phone, but for gaming and movies it is the next step. 3D is definitely sticking around as we get more and more glasses free devices.

FWIW my Lynx 3D (docomo SH-03C) has plenty of 3D content available for it direct from both Sharp and 3rd party developers (apps, videos and pictures).

3D pictures taken from my 3DS also display fine on it, and vice-versa.

What will people say if Apple announces a 'iPhone 3D'? I wonder if they'll still hate on 3D :)

No they won't hate on it. They will act like apple did it first.

Wow... I signed up just to comment on this thread.

Anyways, I have to disagree with everyone that says "3D is a fad and will be gone shortly". I find this to be extremely untrue. Yes, I admit 3D is no where near amazing right now. However, you have to give it time to progress. Technology will never advance if you don't let it try to. The second that more companies start adapting to the 3D feature is when the 3D feature will really take off as there will be lots of trial and error and new ideas that will come up. The first car went at a top speed of 2 MPH and weighed 8000+ pounds. Cars are now something that many people can not live without. Same will go for 3D technology.

If 3D does catch on, Apple won't release an iPhone with 3D until 2 generations later, and when they do, they'll dub it as magical and revolutionary. Like poor saps you all are, you'll eat it up.

And you still won't have a life little troll..

I hope not or our optometrists will get richer. I can see Apple doing it for the iPod touch, but who knows? As long as there is a switch to turn it off.

I was one of the biggest supporters of the Nintendo 3DS until I realized how I hate 3D and want a Sony NGP more. After I played with the 3DS at Best Buy, I realized how gimmicky the 3D really is and how quickly it can strain my eyes. It make us go Neat-O! Then after awhile, it is just a novelty like those fart apps. And this will be the first popular 3D gadget. My 8-year old half-sister is a Nintendo fan and even she told me it is a gimmick and nothing special. She wanted to play the white iPad 2 more.

Only reasons why studios are creating 3D content is to prevent piracy and then raise the cost for the next gen of hardware players after HD era. It is the only direction to go. Unfortunately, 3D has been mostly a failure and passing fad for entertainment for the last 60 years. The problem is 3D can't be viewed the same way for all people and how fooling your eyes can be so headache-inducing even if this glasses-free 3D technology is considered "immature" and such a battery-hog. It is for a niche crowd and required taste and I hope it stays that way.

3D can never replace a great story. It is like the Botox of the movie industry. Shallow effect.

3D - next stop Holodeck

Sorry to disappoint all the nay-sayers, but 3D is NO gimmick. It's awesome. Glasses-less 3D is definitely a step in the right direction.

An iPad with 3D = game changer. There's a simple cydia app that gives the illusion of a 3D wallpaper and looks cool.

I thought apple people were progressive - lot of comments here to the contrary. Why don't you go back to B&W TV or the radio or clicking sticks in a cave...get with the program guys - not perfect technology yet, but with "oh it's the story that counts", blah, blah, blah - please, we exist in 3D so viewing ANY content in 3D is closer to 'lifelike' and therefore better - you can be a part of it.

When you read a book, is your imagination in 2D? Do you dream in 2D? c'mon...

I saw an Android 3D phone that is glassless and its quite awesome to be honest. I know at this stage of 3D development it wont be that convenient to have a 3D phone but when its getting better and better I hope Apple implement it on their iDevice, and I think they'll do.

Which phone did you see? The LG Optimus 3D or EVO 3D?

What the **** is wrong with 3D iFanboys? Just because Uncle Steve won't put bluray players in his computers to avoid paying license fee to Sony for every device makes it useless?

I don't care if it makes its way into mobile industry or not but it is one good technology and soon every TV WILL have it. And today, nobody buys those 3D TV's because they have 3D. It's because TV producers' top-notch sets DO have 3D.

By "top-notch" I'm assuming you mean 'the most expensive one they offer'. Thats because 3D is a new tecnology and so it is expensive. Also, I have yet to see glasses-free 3D tvs. But seriously, what is the point of having 3D on such a small screen. Sure, have 3D in imax/cinemas or on tvs, but whats the point on a screen smaller than ones hand?

Exactly, what's the point of Copy & Paste, 3rd part multitasking, and wall paper change? ;)

I would probably only buy a 3DTV if I had no other choice. And I don't ever want to see it on my iPhone. If it's an option, cool I guess, but I imagine I'd keep it switched off.

I don't thin 3D is a "fad" but I do think it's not for everyone, and will remain a niche market for a while yet.

How about years ago, when phones are monochrome, would you say: what is the point of having a phone with colorful screen, its already on tvs.

For me its simply to catch up with the technology.

Probably not. There had already been colour tv's for a while and so the technology was more developed at that point. 3D is still a new tech, and to be honest I think it needs a lot more work before it becomes a staple feature on phones. I know 3D is inevitable, but I'd like there to be an off switch.

I can see your point then, I also don't expect it to come too soon on iPhone. An off switch will also useful as then everyone is happy.

3D technology has been around longer than the color TV.

"In the late-1890's, a British film pioneer named William Friese-Greene filed a patent for a 3-D movie process. When viewed stereoscopically, it showed that the two images are combined by the brain to produce 3-D depth perception. On June 10, 1915, Edwin S. Porter and William E. Waddell presented tests to an audience at the Astor Theater in New York City. In red-green anaglyph, the audience was presented three reels of tests, which included rural scenes, test shots of Marie Doro, a segment of John Mason playing a number of passages from Jim the Penman (a film released by Famous Players-Lasky that year, but not in 3-D), Oriental dancers, and a reel of footage of Niagara Falls.[19] However, according to Adolph Zukor in his 1953 autobiography The Public Is Never Wrong: My 50 Years in the Motion Picture Industry, nothing was produced in this process after these tests.

The stereoscope was improved by Louis Jules Duboscq, and a famous picture of Queen Victoria was displayed at The Great Exhibition in 1851. In 1855 the Kinematoscope was invented, i.e., the stereo animation camera. The first anaglyph (use of red-and-blue glasses, invented by L.D. DuHaron) movie was produced in 1915 and in 1922 the first public 3D movie was displayed. Stereoscopic 3D television was demonstrated for the first time on August 10, 1928, by John Logie Baird in his company's premises at 133 Long Acre, London.[1] Baird pioneered a variety of 3D television systems using electro-mechanical and cathode-ray tube techniques. In 1935 the first 3D color movie was produced. By the Second World War, stereoscopic 3D still cameras for personal use were already fairly common.

In the 1950s, when TV became popular in the United States, many 3D movies were produced. The first such movie was Bwana Devil from United Artists that could be seen all across the US in 1952. One year later, in 1953, came the 3D movie House of Wax which also featured stereophonic sound. Alfred Hitchcock produced his film Dial M for Murder in 3D, but for the purpose of maximizing profits the movie was released in 2D because not all cinemas were able to display 3D films. The Soviet Union also developed 3D films, with Robinzon Kruzo being its first full-length 3D movie, in 1946.[2]

Subsequently, television stations started airing 3D serials in 2009 based on the same technology as 3D movies.[citation needed] In 2010, video games began to utilize 3D TVs as a new way to play the games.[3]"

Well i believe Apple has already patented hologram technology.
So that will be Apple's next move, holograms.
