The funny thing is, why are they copying the non-pro Airpods, where many have expressed discomfort due to the plastic ear housing? Why not copy the Airpods Pro design instead with in-ear design and more comfortable silicon tips?

These are probably the cheap model. The ones that knock off the Pro's will be probably be called "HTC U Ear Pro". Seriously, that naming though. Couldn't make that up if I tried.

Well R&D is expensive and Apple has done quite a bit to be happy with the overall shape of the AirPods to fit the majority of people’s ears. The rest can simply copy. HTC, oh boy, when they were at the peak of their game, they were issuing designs that made Apple users turn heads. ’Quietly Brilliant’ was unfortunately their demise as Samsung stepped up, flooded the market with phones, and banished their plastic designs.

Amazing how the original AirPods design was iconic and "inevitable" right from the very start. Shoutout to those who picked up a pair right from the very start!

It makes me smile to remember the cacophony of criticisms when the AirPods were introduced. Their design was ridiculed, users wearing them were mocked, they were declared DOA by the same crowd that blasts eveything Apple does. Now that they have succeeded wildly in the market the rush to copy them is in full swing.

Has HTC gotten to the point where they’re gonna pull a Soulja Boy and release rebaged Chinese knockoffs?

The iPhone 6 design looked awfully similar to the HTC One

You mean they're both rectangles? One has a centered camera, one is offset. One has a completely flat back, one has a curved back. One has an anodized finish, one has a brushed finish. Nice try.

I wonder how they compare in sound to the airpods and if they have a volume control on the bud which is so lacking on the AirPods.

HTC slick. They saw there’s a demand for black and took the opportunity

Still a bunch of thugs IMO

Can’t believe companies can just straight copy and get away.

If it’s some Chinese dude sitting at his stall on the street in China boot legging headphones, whatever.

But a real company???

I’m talking about the all aluminum shell and horizontal antenna lines.

There was a time when they had really good phones, very original, such as the Touch Pro 2, HTC One, and others.
Touch Pro 2 had an automatic speakerphone that would activate with the phone face down, and a mute button in the back. Huge display for that time.
Only problem, it ran Windows Mobile that never got updated. And that was the problem for most of these phones. Release it and forget it. Barely any software updates. Then just release a new phone.
I was able to install Android Nexus on the HTC One. Not bad at all, at least for a while.
Those were the days... when I had time to waste.

It’s a shame that most of these companies are now in copycat mode.

Remember when people said how silly they would look?

Well, at least HTC has the decency to offer them in ‘black‘ versus just white like the AirPods, I’ll give them that.😁

Nah it looked like and iPod Touch with antenna lines. The 5th gen iPod Touch was released in October 2012. The HTC One M7 was released in March 2013.

So true. It's funny, we met with HTC when I was deeply engaged in AR/VR years back, the were really courting companies with new ideas using their Vive gear, super interesting bunch of folks, this was mostly their partner management people for the US, but a few engineers, we had some side chats about their smartphone products, they were super enthusiastic about a few things they had in development, none of which I believe ever made to production.

It wouldn't hurt you to acknowledge the similar antenna bands while still arguing the phones are substantially different. It's obvious that the antenna bands were the similarity they were alluding to.
