I'm so happy I found this thread! I thought it was just me.

Anyway, I have a MSN account and haven't been able to download mail for about 2 days. (I can send without any issues.) At this point, my main concern is downloading all the folders I have stored on my MSN account. (I am already in the process of switching everything over to gmail.)

I have tried the adding the account using the live.com settings, but this did not seem to work. (Yes, I checked the port and SSL settings.) Whenever I tried to get my mail, it repeatedly asked me for my password and said that it was being rejected by the server. I also tried MacFreePOP, but the incoming mail server did not work at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

When I couldn't find a solution and MSN/Hotmail proved to be of no help, I used IzyMail. It worked beautifully. I got all my mail off MSN and on to my hard drive.

Microsoft Changed Their Mind

Just got this email from the Microsoft Outlook Team...
"You may have received an e-mail from us letting you know that Microsoft is planning to retire the DAV protocol that Outlook Express uses to access Windows Live Hotmail. In response to customer feedback requesting more time to evaluate alternative solutions, we have decided to postpone retiring DAV and we are investigating other alternatives for accessing Windows Live Hotmail via Outlook Express. This means that if you use Outlook Express to access your Windows Live Hotmail account, you will continue to be able to do so beyond the previously announced June 30 transition deadline. We will be sure to update you once we have additional plans to share and early enough in advance to help ensure a smooth transition in the future."

Do you think an update for httpmail that fixes the 10.5.3 program could be generated, now that it appears that Microsoft is not going to break it, at least not right away?

Honestly, I don't think they care about their minority Mac users, which I knew on some level but was made blatantly obvious in my recent exchanges with them. Also, the recent system updates (to Leopard) rendered my Hotmail and MSN accounts inaccessible two weeks ago.

Set up another account, and have your Hotmail/MSN account forwarded to that. At least, it now offers a feature that will forward mail.

Good news indeed..... Even thou I have started to move my stuff to gmail. Man I didn't realize how many sites and locations I have signed up with that email address. Yikes. Glad this is working so that I don't have to rush to much......

I just started using mail again with the update for 10.5.3, but now the mail icon always shows 1 unread mail. I can't locate it though. Both my hotmail accounts are all read. Please help!

Stop using hotmail!

Ok. i have been reading all the forms and the reviews on the new Mac Leopard update and how it screwed up anyones mac mail that has hotmail. im so confused with where to put the port #'s or if i have to download something else to make it work or if i have to change my account type.. does it have to be on POP? or HTTPMail?.. can someone help me!! i had hotmail for a while and idk if its premium or what. i didnt pay for it. it was the free one.. but someone please help me!!

I don't see why this is so hard for people. Just stop using hotmail. Switch to gmail or even yahoo. Christ.

The big thing for me, and it still is... is the amount of notifications IE emails to people, and the amount of changes to websites I visit and use with my old email address. It is a royal pain in the but. When you have a had an account for 10+ years that is a lot of info you need to port over.

well...

Pay the money to upgrade or make the switch. It gets harder every single year you wait. I'm sure we've all at one time had a hotmail or yahoo or any other account with such limitations. Bite the bullet and switch now.

It's a hassle, but it's worth it.
