Good thing Huawei have themselves a lot more time before releasing this device vs. Samsung.

When I was at the demo of the Mate X, the Huawei employees were telling us how they were still working on getting the device as close to perfect as possible to ensure its consumer ready, I now see what they meant.

I wouldn’t go too early - I bet Samsung employees were saying the same months ago.

The Mate X seems the more fragile of the two...wait & see.

The big difference is that they will now look at this and either further delay the product or work harder on finding a better way to protect the device. In fact I know that they plan on selling the device with that case they showed at the announcement.

But let's wait and see, I'd be shocked if they didn't learn anything from this. They've been very good at managing expectations so far.

They probably will. Samsung still have time to pull the fold before it ships if it is flawed.

Regardless of how it plays out for Huwawei and Samsung in this round. I applaud both of them for having the courage to try something new

Don’t know if anyone posted this. It’s a longer hands on

It looks nice. I wonder what kind of case you could use with it to help with grip?

I’m sure the software quirks will be ironed out before it reaches the hands of consumers.

I feel like the galaxy fold looks more simplistic and practical but the mate X looks more beautiful.

Lots of delaying with these foldables, makes one think it’s better if the OEMs just cancel these and take from now until 2021 to fix all the niggles. Nothing wrong with launching a good product late than launching a half baked one early.

Huawei delays the launch of its foldable phone until September
If you were thinking about ditching the Galaxy Fold in favor of the Mate X after the former was delayed, think again. Huawei has told CNBC that is also pushing back the release of its folding phone to spend more time testing the hardware. The launch, originally pencilled in for this summer, will now take place in September. That will enable Huawei to ensure its mechanism is more reliable, and focus on other matters, like app compatibility.

Foldable phones were meant to be the hot new thing this year, but sadly the technology clearly isn't ready for the real world. Samsung seeded review units of the Galaxy Fold but journalists quickly found that the devices began to break after just days of use. The bending screen has an air gap around the top and bottom of the handset, wide enough to allow pieces of lint and debris to enter the body. That meant that, when the screen was closed, the debris pierced the film, damaging the display.

In addition, Samsung's display membrane was left sufficiently loose that some people justifiably mistook it for a loose screen protector, and removed it. That, too, caused the display to break, and the company quickly issued a recall and suggested that it would postpone the Fold's launch to remedy the issue. That was in April, and Samsung still can't name a date, causing many of its pre-orders to be cancelled or pulled.
