How the RYYB sensor on the Huawei P30 Pro works
The Huawei P30 Pro is the first smartphone to use Sony's new IMX650 sensor. Apart from having a resolution of 40MP, the special feature of this sensor is that it has an RYYB color filter. Huawei claims this makes the sensor collect 40% light. But what is an RYYB color filter and how does it differ from what other phones have?

To understand the RYYB filter, we must first understand how a Bayer filter works. A Bayer filter is a color filter array overlaid on top of an image sensor, and is named after Bryce Bayer, who invented it.

Anyone know how I can get my music player to work on the lock screen? On my iPhone I could change song, on my p30 pro I can only see 1 message available

That menu is not In p30
What Music app are you using?

Go to Settings - Notifications - Music app of choice - Allow Notifications

Depending on what you use, they can takeover the lock screen while playing music.

Some Apps like Apple Music display as a notification only, unfortunately.

Been using the P30 for a while now, and I’m surprised how great of a phone it is, especially if you’re an amateur photographer.

Pluses:
- cheaper than the P30 Pro for sure
- headphone jack
- more compact body
- same fast SoC as the P30 Pro
- generous amount of RAM and storage. Mine has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That’s as much as my previous MacBook Air!!
- smooth operation and great battery life
- amazing camera output and capability. Features like the night mode and light painting made it super easy to create photos that used to require careful preparations, manual controls and a tripod. Eg I now can create a photo of silky smooth water just by using his phone, handheld! The. There’s the obvious wide angle and 3x zoom.

Minuses:
- only IP53 rated, unlike the IP68 Pro
- no creep mode 50x zoom, but I don’t think I would ever use that anyway.
- no reverse wireless charging, but seriously other than a fun party trick, this is mostly a gimmick imo
- WiFi and wireless performance can be a bit wonky at times

As for eMUI, since I’m already accustomed to MiUI, eMUI is not that starkly different. It’s better than MiUI that you can enable the app drawer. However, it feels more intrusive in terms of analytics (especially when you first configuring the phone) compared to other Androids. But personally I’m a fan of these custom Android now, especially with features like twin apps/dual apps, which doesn’t exist on stock Android. These Huawei phones are becoming solid contenders for the likes of Samsung

I was messing with one at BH Photo. I enabled developer options and I noticed all the Bluetooth audio settings were grayed out in developer options. Same for yours?

It should be available when you’re actually connected to a Bluetooth audio device. Haven’t tried on mine yet since, well , headphone jack... :D

I don't find the dual view to be something I'd make use of. And I haven't noticed any extra portrait features to what were already there.

I have to give some strong consideration to the p30, the pro is out of the running considering the cost.

Has anyone used both the P30 and the S10 plus?

I just got the S10+ but I am reading the battery life is really bad. I am thinking of swapping to get the P30. Can anyone confirm?

with a S10 (Plus) there will always be some sort of endless battle (settings/disabling stuff) when it comes to battery life.

With the P30 (Pro) there is no single second of worry, you can use the phone with every still enabled (Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS) and still can get easily (almost, sometimes even more) 2 days of battery life.

Hmm I am thinking of returning it even though I do prefer the Samsung

I can't deal with poor battery.

This.

I have always found Samsung Battery Life to be good, however to get it to be this excellent required turning off somethings, and monitoring a little more, e.g. I always set GPS to Power Saving and would turn off NFC and lower screen brightness to between 40-50%.

With the Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro, I left everything as is, GPS on High Accuracy, NFC On, Performance Mode turned on to, screen brightness on 70%, and I still get crazy battery life, like 9-10hours SOT with well over 24 hours off charge.

Huawei's also tend to have less idle drain than Samsung.

If you are in the USA though, you are better off sticking with Samsung as ol' Trump is trying is hardest make any sort of Huawei ownership impossible that side from what I have seen, don't know if you will get a warranty for example.

I am in the UK so I might change the phone to the Pro 30

So you own the S10+ but can't tell if the battery is poor?
Soo many people have complained about it especially those living the UK

I had the S10+ and after a couple of days I was consistently getting decent battery life around 6/7 hours SOT which is enough for a full day and then some. It won't be as good as the Huawei but good enough.

thats true

the Huawei battery is supposed to be amazing. Thats what's making me think to swap even though I prefer the S10+

If you own the S10+, then surely you already know if you're happy with the battery life you're currently getting?

If I was happy with a phone, I wouldn't swap it for one I like less simply to get better battery life.
