The display has a visible crease! Both this and the Samsung have me heavily questioning the screen durability and practicality. I also question the clarity of the screen given the materials needed to make it flexible. I’m not convinced. If people think Apple couldn’t have been producing and selling these for the last 2 years if they really wanted to they are wrong. There is probably a whole plethora of concept prototype devices just like this sitting somewhere at Apple. People love to act like Apple doesn’t do things because they’re somehow inept or unimaginative. Apple chooses not to do certain things. In my opinion both the Samsung and this Huawei Chinese government spy device are both unfinished products with technology that isn’t mature enough for consumer devices.

People keep banging on about Apple losing the edge on innovation, not being first with this, that and the other.

They have NEVER been first with anything significant in terms of category of equipment. First to drop 3.5 inch floppies and DVD drives is one thing. First with tablets, music players and so on is another. And in this last aspect they've never been first. They have though, tended to be first to truly get it right AND make a sh*t load of money off it as a result. I suspect they'll be in a similar mode with these new thingies. I hope so - I hope instead they're focused on stopping the slide in to Microsoftism...

Smart move by Apple not to release anything like this. Too many compromises, terrible materials, no real value to consumers, and a bad experience overall.
Apple could not release anything like this even if they wanted to so I would not call it a "move" on Apple's part.

That's just false. To their credit, Applw was one of the first to adopt capacitive screens (original iPhone)

I actually like the idea of having a foldable phone and using it in the larger mode once I'm sitting down. However, these 2 look terrible. They are way too thick. What the heck is the enormous edge thing?

I never understand this opinion. Apple, a multi billion dollar company employing some of the best engineers and designers in the world, couldn’t do something like this even if they wanted to!? Hahaha
[doublepost=1551045656][/doublepost]How durable are these screens!? Anyone have any idea?

Sorry, I think you are wrong. Apple doesnt make its own screens and relies on third parties. Its these third parties pushing the envelope.

Of course they could, thave more pull than anyone in the industry. Fortunately for their customers though, they wouldn’t release junk like this. No reason to release a product that doesn’t bring any value.

I know they don’t, but they could certainly have in-house display engineering and production if they wanted to. It is a business decision. They don’t think it is worth it (and they’re probably right).

$2600 folding phones? This has just become a ****ing clownshow now at this point.

Let's not forget, this is a glorified, junky flip phone that everyone here has absolutely hated on for the past decade.

To put the utter lunacy in perspective, I'll take a high end stock configuration 15" Macbook Pro for about this price.

Based on the logic from those guys, I'm sure Apple could have released their own LTE or 5G modem like Huawei, but simply chose not to. LOL.

They design their own silicone already. If they wanted to design their own custom modem they probably could, but why? They have the capability of hiring any of the same engineering teams as any other company.
