Wow, tough crowd.

If you phoned a store, any store, and asked if they had something in stock and they say yes and you give them your credit card to secure it would it be reasonable to assume that you could pick it up the same day for an in stock item? Forgive me for thinking that should be easy.

If they told me that they had it and it would be waiting when I arrived? Yes.

If they told me to wait until they sent me a notice that it would be available for pickup? No.

Now, that said, I am of the opinion that Apple needs a better in-store system for pickup of website items. If they had that, it wouldn't be such a hassle sometimes to pick up purchased items. An "express line" for pickups, as it were. Hell, even Best Buy has one of those.

But, with the way it is set up now, your disappointment is solely on you because Apple told you to wait until they let you know it was ready.

Which is why I don't bother with Apple. Was a hassle the one time I used it and learned from it....just go to the store. I do it at bestbuy than with no issues.

No worries there. A bunch of strangers on the Internet disagreeing with me won't spoil my day.
Some of us aren't trying to spoil your day, some of us are trying to show you how you accomplished that yourself. Have you become so comfortable with chaos that you refuse to see how your own actions serve to defeat your accomplishments? I encourage you to study psychology, I feel it would benefit you in ways you cannot imagine.

Look, the people at the store had the watch. They could see the order. They could not get their system to release it. The problem was an issue with Apple's order fulfillment system that they could not sort out. That part is really not my fault.

Sure my OP was bit__y. But as I said we've done this before with no problem. It was this time it was a problem and despite being able to see the order in their system they could not get it to release the order. Why? I don't know.

Nobody was rude to Apple staff either. The OP was just plain venting of frustration. Lighten up.

And do computers never break down or screw something up? Sometime happened get over it. Yes it sucks that it happened to you but it's life move on. No need to whine and whine about it insisting you're correct. I assume that they refused to release the product to you has something to do with security and not wanting to have something happen. Perhaps they have to make sure it's you picking it up and not say me picking it up. I would be more mad if they let some random guy pick it up.

I'm probably going to take that next semester

I don't believe anyone here is to attempting to "Ruin" your day. But you did post a thread where you will find differing opinions on how the situation was handled. That said, you can disagree all you want with the various opinions on here, but you and your wife didn't handle the situation appropriately.

If you had followed direction, you wouldn't even had to start a thread based off your experience. Some of the posts on here are harsh, but in reality, all these internet strangers are not necessarily wrong per se.

I'm confident though, after dealing with your Apple experience, you would likely wait until you receive a confirmation from Apple for any future orders.
