I'm sorry this is my second day as mac user.. my dad just gave me his old macbook.. I'm a little confused

this is how it is reported in the system info:

Nome modello: MacBook Air
Identificatore modello: MacBookAir2,1
Nome processore: Intel Core 2 Duo
Velocità processore: 2,13 GHz
Numero di processori: 1
Numero totale di nuclei: 2
Cache L2: 6 MB
Memoria: 2 GB
Velocità bus: 1,07 GHz
Versione Boot ROM: MBA21.0075.B03
Version SMC (sistema): 1.34f8

it is in italian but it is easy to understand..
I don't know if it is a newer 2010 model..

You have one of the mid-2009 models. The late 2010 models show up as MacBookAir3,2.

ok, I knew it's kind weird to post in 2-years-old thread with the latest post is 3 months ago.

After 6 months using of my MBA, and now I found out that my MBA have somethings like lagging/freezing after 15-30 minutes of watching 720p HD film (ridiculous, right?)

But I have just installed coolbook recently. So, my question is when I open coolbook, there're only 2 choices of frequency, 1586 and 1862. Lowest voltage is 0.925V!

Why others have many choices?

I also wonder this as mine is the exact same. Do you have the 13", 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD MBA?

Mine is 13" gen 2, 2GB RAM and HDD SATA. I still use .925V for all frequencies and find out that somehow it runs faster!!!

It's somehow reasonable cause it reduces the heat come from CPU so it can run faster without core shut down!

Running the following on both AC and battery. 100% stable. Properly applying thermal compound helped a lot as well. MacBookAir1,1 1.6

total noob here

I'm wondering if Coolbook can help me out as it seems to have helped a lot of people here? I've got a nearly 6 year old MacBook Pro that seems to be having the same problems that Coolbook solves for Macbook Air users--overheating, cores shutting down. I'm running Snow Leopard. Should I go ahead and try Coolbook, or is there something specifically for Macbook Pros?

Thanks

With the older Macbook Pro's, you might try taking it apart and re-applying the thermal paste. It has a tendency to harden and becomes less-useful over time, and Apple isn't known for applying it correctly to begin with.

Whilst in there blow out all the dust bunnies

I would have no idea on how to go about doing this. Is this easier than it sounds???? Or are there services out there that do this sort of thing that don't cost an arm and a leg?

It's a pain in the behind with a lot of small screws and such, check out iFixit for guides though, and the payoff is fantastic (if you don't mess anything up).

You have to raise the volt settings, you are not giving the CPU enough voltage. I had the exact same thing, I raised the all volt settings by 1-2 steps, and problem solved.

Well I might try that before I try to take this thing apart...how do I raise the volt settings?

Just go into CoolBookController, and up all the CPU/volt settings by one value, if that doesn't do it, try upping all the settings once more.
I would never go for the lowest stable setting initially (most likely your CPU will hang occationally, and there might be performance issues), but go about 2 steps above. That's my experience anyway from a MBP 2009 and MBA 2010.

Good luck! :)

When I opened it a message box popped up saying coolbook won't open, but the controller came up. However it won't allow me to save any changes. What step am I missing here?

With Coolbook, I can get 18+ hours battery life with my 2010 13" Air (see pic)... it's awesome for long flights!

And does it really last that long? In any case, coolbook doesn't support anything past 2010, neither the macs nor Lion and Mountain Lion. And sadly no one ever built an alternative. This is dead.
