Getting closer to cutting the cable cord. I need HBOgo before any drastic moves are made.

I have to say, for your benefit as well as any of us who thinks getting HBO Go as it's offered now will allow you to tell your current TV provider to F off.

It won't. Because, as offered, HBO Go still requires that you have an HBO subscription in order to get it.

So, what you and I (and many others) are hoping for is a NEW version of HBO Go that you pay directly, or pay via iTunes.

Then, we can collectively tell the cable/sat providers to F off!

:)

Where exactly to subscribe and get the app on the AppleTV

Well here's a dirty little secret - you can get HuluPlus on your apple TV in Canada if you subscribe using a US itunes account. I'm currently using it in Toronto. No need for a VPN blocker.
You can do this anywhere in the world as long as you subscribe with a US itunes account.

Could you provide a little more detail? I have a huluplus.com subscription already that I got a long time ago. On your AppleTV how did you get the Hulu app to show up at all? Did you just use your appleID email to pay for your hulu account and then the app just magically appeared on your AppleTV? Thanks.

AppleTV shows why an actual apple tv wouldnt really work, at least as an world wide offer. theres just too much missing, all i got is YouTube on my AppleTV ...

but i guess it makes more sense in the US anyway because cable isnt really expensive here in germany. i pay 49€ for Premium Deluxe Cable TV (complete) incl HD + 100mbit unlimited internet. therefore Netflix, Hulu Plus arent that much of a cheaper alternative

30mbit + cable tv complete is $199 in the US??? omfg

you know, I think that they'd at least try to add more services out of common sense when they transition their "hobby product" to a full-blown money-maker

On the nosey. Currently I watch Warehouse 13 and Being Human, both offered by Syfy and both available on iTunes the day after they air. Then there is True Blood, for which I need HBO. Most of the rest of my shows are on Discovery, NatGeo, and the like.

Problem: for HBO Go you need a HBO Cable/Satellite Subscription.

Other than that I am going to say bye bye Comcast this week (will only keep basic levels) :)

Not quite sure where you are getting your prices from. Right now, I'm spending $100 for all of the channels except movie channels, with DVR service, plus 30MB down and 5MB up. I don't know of anyone who is paying the price you are saying in the US

i just looked on the comcast site. the biggest package was 199

Quantify "all the channels " please. I pay $169.99 for comcast digital starter package plus 2 hd boxes and 30mb down/10mb up and I own my own cable modem.

And that's a 6 month "special".

If they keep adding more channels they really need to allow us to remove them from the home screen if we have no intention to use them.
Seconded. Particularly for those channels that are not available in the country you live in but still use screen real estate.

Hulu Plus not currently showing up in Japan. Emailed support to see if it should be. Will report back if I get any response.

Really? I'll give it a try.

I'm in Minneapolis and have the exact same package for $100 per month all in (that includes taxes, fees, etc).

I have been a customer for a while, called up a couple weeks ago and threatened to cancel, and they gave me this rate, good for at least the next 12 months.

I live in the twin cities area too and pay 103 per month for the second teir internet and start digital pacakge and family package channels. So like channels 1-45 and then the 130-145. No phone service. Seems you are on contract with how you said locked in for that price. I am non-contract.

If you drop cable you lose discount on internet. So before I would just drop cable down to basic which was 8$/month. Then I got the 15$/month discount on internet.

Been meaning to call and drop cable anyway since the past year wife and I mainly just watch netflix or hulu+.

The Google service in KC would be a dream come true. How are they delivering the connection? Did they build a system or are they using someone else's?

They are running their own fiber, its well under way now, trucks everywhere.
Hookups to houses are set to start in September. The neighborhoods that pre-register the most houses get the service first.

$70 gets you a network box, gigabit up and down with no data cap. The box has 4 ethernet ports and and built in Wi-Fi with 360Mbps throughput.

$120 gets you that plus TV lineup (no HBO), a DVR like box, Nexus 7 tablet "remote" and 1TB Google Drive. All Google equipment (thank you Moto acquisition).

How do you cut the cable cord when you need a cable subscription in order to use HBO Go? Unless of course your have a friend that is giving you an account under their account.

I've tried and cancelled Hulu+ twice over the last year or so, hoping the service would improve. I don't mind the ads, what I mind is not being able to watch what I want, how and where I want to. I get that media companies are incapable of making sensible content licensing decisions, but seriously, why does it matter what screen I watch the programming on? I'm giving you money and watching your ads, shut up and show my TV show. I also hated the interface, it was and still is clunky and confusing.

Now though, with Apple TV availability, some of those problems are solved.

The main device I wanted to use Hulu+ on was my TV. I could do it through XBox 360, but using a game controller to navigate through the already awkward UI was a deal breaker. I could watch on my iPad or iPhone, but until recently couldn't AirPlay to the ATV, and even when they brought it back it didn't work well. I was also still relegated to Hulu's confusing UI.

With Apple TV, that's fixed. The streaming works great. The UI matches everything else on ATV, so I'm no longer at the mercy of Hulu's sadistic UI designers. Obviously, I can now also watch the content on my TV, where it belongs.

The content licensing issues still stand however. For $8/month it may prove to be a nice channel surfing option for the Apple TV, but would be much better if everything was available.

Damn... Literally just one day after I picked up a Sony Streamer for my bedroom. It was only 37 bucks though. Have my ATV3 in my living room and was debating getting a 2nd one.
