"Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product..."

If it's ad supported then WTF do they want you to pay $9.99 per month. No thanks. If I were to pay for subscription TV then I do not want ads.

No deal.

I have Cable TV. And I pay a LOT for it.

It also has commercials.

$9.99 a month with ads? Does it have all the content from Hulu.com? Sounds like they are getting greedy. Give me ads or give me a fee...not both.

Hulu plus will have more content than hulu, plus HD content. You aren't paying for access on these devices, you are paying for a premium service that includes access on additional devices. If you think $9.99/month with ads is too expensive, I think you should look at your cable bill again.

I just wish things like this and Netflix were available in Canada.

Any one that knows anything about the financial part of tv knows this is double dipping. The advertisers are the ones that pay for these commercial shows to be on tv. Duh! Hence the term "commercial". Now here come ABC wanting to charge $10.00 a month for shows that were already paid for. The Neilson Families did their thing and the money was made for the advertisers and the network.
ABC must be crazy!
Lets say 20 million folks subscribe to HULU. That is $200 million a month for intermittently laced, non-scrubbable commercial supported programs?
HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

$9.99 a month with ad's

Oh Hell No.

They can keep it

I might reconsider if it was like $4.99 a month with limited ad's.

But as it is now they can shove it where the sun don't shine.

Sweet, sign me up when this comes to the PS3 or the :apple:TV. No need for cable!

Also last I check, cable TV requires a subscription AND has ads....

pay ten bucks a month to watch TV on a mobiles device and be subject to their irritating advertisements?

Ahhhhhhhh, nope!

How is that worse than paying close to a hundred bucks or more for cable or satellite with EVEN MORE ads than Hulu?

I think $9.99 is very reasonable considering Hulu has far less ads than cable or satellite at one tenth the cost per month and with everything on demand rather than according to set schedules.

So I assume there is going to be a huluu app. I wonder if it is only for the plus users or if it will support streaming for the free service n

I agree with small car above. Do you have cable?

Well, no, I don't have cable, actually. If the ads are minimal, I think $10/mo sounds a lot better than the $70/mo I'm not paying Comcast for standard cable.
And support for PS3? Nice. (Can you get Hulu free on PS3 at the moment? I don't think so, and it's not just a Flash issue, right?)

So far, PS 3 is the most affordable HTPC that I can think of. Downside is no Hulu. But if I could do Hulu for $10/mo I probably would, even without the expanded library of content. Again, that's way less than $70/mo for Comcast.

Makes me more interested in PS3 for my HTPC.

Here is the difference --

Ads in a magazine or newspaper, and some DVDs, I can easily skip over. However ads in Hulu are locked. You can't skip over them. Now when they are giving free product as they currently do, fair enough. No complaint. But when I'm paying $10 then they need to at least allow me to skip the ad if I don't want to watch it.

Well, by DVDs I actually meant product placement which you can't skip.

And TV networks don't give you a way to skip ads either. You have to go elsewhere for that by bringing a DVR to the mix.

So while I see your logic that you can skip TV ads, it's not fair to say that TV networks let you skip TV ads. That is not a service they provide.

So I kind of see their logic when they say "We don't let you skip ads on TV, why should we treat your iPhone any differently?"

But yeah, the whole transition from old-media to internet is messy. There's not a lot of great solutions that don't step on somebody's toes in some way or another. I get that. It's not very pretty.

it'll be interesting to see how this is integrated into a rumored iOS :apple:TV.

btw, speaking of this app not being in the app store yet, a question: when i bought my iP4 last week i hooked up my computer in the store to sync all my data to my new phone, which gave me plenty of time to explore the store. The iPad i played with had an app called iPad Guide. It was a useful compilation of iPad tips. I can't find it on the app store. It seems odd apple would be promoting its device in-store with an app that's not publicly available. Has anyone heard of it? Can you point me to it? Thanks.

My ultimate goal is to be able to pay $10 a month for the basic networks and then have iTunes rent me cable shows (like Psych and Top Chef) that I can keep for 2 days. I'm ok with ads on all of these.

Both the $10 service and the rentals should play on my iPhones, Macs, and Apple TV.

Once we're at that point, I'm happy. (Only some of this is possible now. I still pay for cable. I don't want to pay for cable.)

So Hulu+ is not gonna do much for me all by itself (I won't pay for it AND cable and I can't ditch cable yet) but I'm pleased to see it since it's one more brick in the wall I eventually want to see.

I'm 100% in agreement with you on this one. I've been waiting on this for FAR too long.

If I can get everything I watch, great!. I can get rid of my $89 a month ad supported Directv service.

I agree with small car above. Do you have cable?

If I subscribe to HBO...no commercials. iPhone apps...often free if you're willing to deal with the ads...but most developers offer an ad-free version you pay for. This trend of paying for a service or product without ads, or getting a service or product free that is supported by ads...that's a trend I want to support. If we support hybrids that offer both, everything will move that direction...and it will be our fault for letting it happen.

On the plus side though...if I can cancel my TV service and watch everything on something like this...it would be tempting. The only sticking point will be sports and other live events.

$9.99 a month with ads? Does it have all the content from Hulu.com? Sounds like they are getting greedy. Give me ads or give me a fee...not both.

So you don't get any commercials with your monthly TV cable/satellite bill?

HBO is a premium channel. Basic/local cable channels still have commercials even though you pay for it.

They don't get it

I will not pay to watch ads. When will they get it? People fall into two camps: they either will watch for free ad watch ads as a result, or pay to watch content uninterrupted. I am happy with either option. But to pay AND watch ads? NO WAY.

I could see $9.99/ year, but per month? I don't think so.
$10 a month just makes me laugh....

Cable TV doesn't have ads? Wow, it's been a long time since I've watched cable but I didn't know it was 100% ad free. :p

I'll say it again, if only the major leagues allowed for Hulu to stream live games, I could drop cable/satellite forever. Either that or have a non-blackout subscription with MLB, and NHL.

People the reason cable has both is cause ads pay the makers of the show when the bill pays for the hardware and bring the shows to your tv. Hulu dosnt do that second thing. That's your Internet provider
