I only EVER use Hulu to catch a recent show I might have missed for some reason - so this is still good news for me. To watch a back catalog of older shows, it only seems fair to charge something, since you would have to pay to watch them with Netflix subscription, or if you bought the DVD's. Although...will the shows watched via subscriptions still have ads too? If so, that would be kind of lame...

I think the price point is pretty decent. I don't have Netflicks so can't say but maybe they are trying to compete a bit with them. And both are trying to compete with cable/satellite. No matter, if there are enough of the shows I watch and care about on either one allowing me to drop satellite and still have DVR like capabilities - you bet.

Bring this in with an Apple TV DVR system to get over the air content and I'm truly golden.

I hope it will be for all devices. I'll do anything to finally cut the cable TV. My "Triple Play" is over and their costs for staying loyal to them is a stab in the back, not to mention rental fees for the boxes and remotes, FCC surcharges, etc.

$10 a month for all-you-can-eat episodes on TV? The only thing missing are live shows like "The Tonight Show," but I guess I can deal with ATSC over the air.

I don't know who your provider is, but i have comcast and my triple play package just ended a month ago and my bill went from 150 to 210 without warning. I called and said i couldnt' afford it, and within seconds they put me on a new triple play for $10 less at $140 for the next 2 years, and added about 30 channels. Don't be afraid to call and complain, if you threaten to leave, they'll make you a deal!!

My Netflix is less expensive than that and it has all the shows I watch instant pretty much. Even just having The Office and LOST is a clincher for Netflix.

Also, Netflix is ad-free.

Pretty soon it will be just The Office for you :-( last season of Lost

Thanks, I tried. They offered a $20 monthly reduction. Still overpriced. They know we don't have alternatives in my town - No FiOS, only DirecTV and Dish, and they lock you into 2-year contracts on their own. YMMV when it comes to these end of honeymoon negotiations. If you have more than one provider in your town, I'm sure they'll be more than willing to bend. If they have you by the cohones, well, you get the drift...

Great news! Don't get it why people are voting negative. iPad is designed to be a media consumption device so it was to be expected you need to pay for the content.

Yeh, good point. I live in Baltimore and we have every option imaginable.

Hulu has spent the last 2 years marketing Hulu as a wonderful free service for consumers, hoping that many people would become addicted enough to start paying when Hulu moved to a subscription model.

Sure, they'll have a good number of TV addicts sign up, but I think they overestimate their value versus companies like Netflix.

Desktop + iPad != Desktop + iPad + iPhone (eventually) + PS3 + X360 + Wii + many TVs + Roku, etc...

This is a great deal if it ends up going to the iPad. I will buy one specifically for this kind of use.

If it were to be extended to the :apple:tv, I'll throw down $20/month. Easy.

There ought to be a lot of people 'out there' that will consider this, but Hulu will need to provide a significant reason for consumers to choose it over Netflix.

If they have a full library of shows for fox and nbc, and carry full seasons, and past seasons.

$9.99 a month is dirt cheap, and I would be all for it.

It is odd to me that people who pay for apple premium products are freaking out over a $10 a month fee, if done properly would be a massive value for any other way to get these shows. DVRs cost money. Heck a cable/satellite dvr fee is $5 a month, is not going to be capable of capturing all of the shows if they fill out the associated networks.

People are being silly. $9.99 is a killer price for this. I think a lot of you are bat-crap insane.

I don't user hulu now at all. Why? Because most of the time I want older episodes, or I might pick up a show midseason and want to go back and watch the older ones.

Like I said, if they also happen to add in past season it would be a freaking bargain basic bonaza and worth a lot more than $20 a month.

Look at any other way you can get that content to watch it on-demand, and short of pirating it, it will cost you at least $10 a month. Unless you set up a htpc and get it over the air and record it. In which case you paid for all that... Plus shows can be missed and interrupted. The local ABC affiliate here last week took off new episodes of shows to run their own spring season version of their morning show in Primetime.

You're probably right, which is a shame. They're gonna have to take the 'Netflix account' approach if they want it to work. I can log into my Netflix account on my Mac and my Playstation. This would have to work like that before I even thought about it.
It might be a little annoying to have the shows from multiple users under one account but the cost savings is there.

Just curious... who actually watches network television any more?... and would actually pay MORE to get what they can DVR.
Not sure I understand the 'value' proposition here.

Jeez you're spoiled.. I'd kill to get Hulu for $25 a month here in sweden.. (our alternative so far: Voddler, with a few old ad supported movies and ****** old swedish tele series, and ten year old movies to RENT for $3 and overall close to embarrassing library. Or wait a year to see it on swedish television..).

I can't believe how anyone can think that $9.99 is too much for such a service. But then on the other hand a lot of people seems to think that the same price for Spotify (oh, but at least that's something you americans don't have yet) is way to much.. and then people complain about greedy companies..

I would pay $9.95 for the Hulu app once, but not a per month fee. I just spent the morning getting my Dishnetwork DVR upgraded to the Sling loaded VIP922. Now I can watch what ever I want for free with the Sling player (I paid $30 for that app, so I don't mind giving Hulu an app fee, just not a monthly fee for something that is free from a computer!)

as long as the recent five episodes of my favorite tv shows are free i see no reason to pay.

even then i have a hard time to pay 120 bucks a year for this service. if it was at least remotely comparable to basic cable then maybe i would ditch cable and subscribe to hulu. but now they are not even near basic cable offerings.

Ultimately, Hulu is expected to adopt the same commercial loads as network television.

As soon as that happens I'll switch from Hulu to something less obtrusive. I enjoy getting to watch my shows without commercial breaks so long that I forget what I was watching...

If it lets me get rid of Cable - which basically means I can watch the Daily Show or the new south park the night they're on cable - I'd gladly subscribe.
