If there's a subscription model, I wonder if Hulu would get to the point of having a channel for the gaming consoles. I don't know if there's one for PS3 or the 360, but I know the Wii is missing a Hulu channel. With streaming netflix and a Hulu subscription, I'd have little need at all for cable TV, and that'd work alright for me.

Jeez you're spoiled.. I'd kill to get Hulu for $25 a month here in sweden.. (our alternative so far: Voddler, with a few old ad supported movies and ****** old swedish tele series, and ten year old movies to RENT for $3 and overall close to embarrassing library. Or wait a year to see it on swedish television..).

I can't believe how anyone can think that $9.99 is too much for such a service. But then on the other hand a lot of people seems to think that the same price for Spotify (oh, but at least that's something you americans don't have yet) is way to much.. and then people complain about greedy companies..

just because a service is more expensive in sweden or not available there doesn't mean it's worth more the 10 bucks. in general TV is not worth much anyway and i would not subscribe to any tv (my GF made me get basic cable and it's a waste of money). and there are tons of ads in hulu on top of that. has nothing to do with greed. it's just that watching TV for max 4hrs a month is not worth a subscrption fee. you seem to think that you should pay more than 25 dollar a month for 4hrs TV with ads

Of course not, however, it'd hard to imagine that the average user will watch max 4 hours a month. So, honestly, you're irrelevant to them.

I'd pay that if....

1. No ads
2. HD resolution @1080p (not some lame upscaled 480p signal)
3. Full catalog of past shows.
4. Unlimited use

Other than that, no thanks.

I already pay for Netflix just a little under $10 a month, Which has movies, tv shows, documentaries......I also use hulu on my mac couple times a week but there is not a tiny little chance i would pay $9.95 a month for hulu just to watch some older episodes of tv show.

I'd be ok with ONE ad at the beginning; I agree though if I'm paying, you better not interrupt my show. Netflix or thePirateBay for me...

I will not pay for this subscription service. I already pay for Netflix, which gives me most of the older shows I need. The best thing about Netflix is I can watch it on my iPad, I can watch it on my computer, and I can watch it on my TV. The beauty of Hulu is so I can watch (or re-watch) new episodes of Lost for free with very limited commercial interruption. So the past 5 episodes still being free is fine by me. I don't see any point in dishing out another $9.99 a month for this.

I have the $8.99 plan - one DVD out at a time plus unlimited streaming. I used it to catch up on shows that I didn't watch before, like Dexter and Lost, but now that I am caught up with those there is no incentive to keep it. They have entered into that deal with Warner where they will delay movies on DVD in exchange for more streaming content, so even getting new(er) movies will be difficult if I understand it correctly.

The last 5 are free and if you want older stuff you pay. Sounds good to me as long as it is HD quality and fewer ads.

I think it is fair. Free for last 5 episodes and pay for full catalog. Although, you shouldn't have to pay AND see ads.

too much?

So, $9.95 per month is too high for Hulu.

But $9 per month is ok for Netflix.

Is there $.95 per month difference in their service? Really?

$5 a month and I'm there.

I watch so little TV that $10 a month would be like $5 an episode. ...which is why I don't have a TV, and why I use Hulu in the first place.

Still, I rate this as a positive, because the free service remains free, and if I can finally see the back episodes of "Always Sunny in Philidelphia" or "Parks & Recreation" or "Stargate", well, then it's probably worth it for a month or two to catch up.

Glad Hulu isn't disappearing instead.

If its true I'll just load the free version and watch the most recent shows if I want. I don't need yet another monthly bill for some niche service I'll hardly use.

Off the top of my head I watch 2 shows on Hulu at this time, Fringe and Bones. I like the look and feel of these shows so much I also have some season sets if I can find them used for $20 or less. I have Fringe S1 (ripped and loaded on my Mac Pro) and Bones S1, 2, 3. With being able to get Deadwood and Star Trek for $20 a season in some cases I just go for iTunes or the DVDs. I have no TV service and very poor reception in my area. I do have the highest speed Internet service at $60 monthly. For me $10 for Hulu and its current collection of shows is not worth it, $10 for Netflix is worth it.

This is the first time I have agreed with some many of the MR posters. It's nice to be on the same wave link.

Guess ill have to go back to my old pirating ways
Agreed!

$10 plus commercials? WTF?? Pass.

Free with commercials, or $$ with no commercials.
Agreed!

and, wait for it.............Almost agreed; the full catalog should be free LIKE IT USED TO BE before all the TV execs went for the $

It would have to offer a lot more than rabbit ears + ad-supported web sites (and would have to be ad-free) to be worth $120/year to me.

I’d be willing to pay a little to catch shows I missed, and some old series too (but those often don’t have all the seasons). Certainly I’d pay for the app itself. But not $120/year. So: great service, wrong price.

But if the current free content remains, and is available on iPad without the subscription, then I’m fine with it. I won’t want the $120/year service, but I’ll keep enjoying the ad-supported Hulu programming. (And whatever ads are necessary, I accept that content is not free to create.)

I can’t imagine making the iPad app be ONLY for premium users. That’s not the way to get people hooked! I think the iPad app and subscription service will not be tied together (other than launch timing).

Doesn't that seem a little backwards? The recent episodes are the valuable ones and where they have a competitive advantage. I can netflix past episodes all I want.

... for the same $10 per month, except you also get to see movies on the same subscription (well beyond the sub-Starz-quality back catalog Hulu offers).

Yeah, can't see this being a barn-burner for Hulu, unless they bring that price down to more like $5/month.

Why all the whining?

I've seen too many people threaten to go back to pirating over this or complaining that Hulu is going to start charging. The fact is that they are not taking anything away from anyone. They are just opening up an additional option. Depending on what shows you watch, $10 can be ridiculously cheap. The price of a couple of espresso based drinks, 1/3 of the price of a movie rental. 1/4 the price of a TV season on DVD or iTunes, 1/10th to 1/20th the price of a month of cable service.

Also, I don't know why people are complaining about paying for something with advertisements in it. We do it all the time. Cable, magazines, newspapers, utility statements. Even Netflix has ads (on their envelopes). The ads help to subsidize the price of your services so that you can get them for less.

Great Price

$9.99 is a great price.

I'm using Netflix on the iPad to watch all the 24 episodes (never seen it) and I love it. Works great. No Advertising. Excellent.

Thanks Hulu.

What's really funny is that so few people stop ponder the truth about content, and that's this:

Small screen (TV) content exists because of advertising.

No advertising, no TV content.

As a Marketer and Producer, I dislike watching advertising as much as anyone, but I am smart enough to know that advertising is the reason TV exists and not the other way around.
