A nice little Smart Coupe/Roadster, an Alfa Romeo Brera or a Westfield. They're nice sports cars!

Which brings us back to the overcompensation issue...It's a mode of transportation, not something to use to make up for a lack of intelligence, personality or manhood/womanhood.

yeah just like we should dress in ten year old shirt and use old thick laptops from 2001... if it works, then use it right? Very utilitarian.

I think people label others who drive large cars as those who "lack of intelligence, personality or manhood/womanhood." Well, I can tell you that I'm insecure about very few things. I'm definately not stupid. My friends would say I'm fairly out going - though a tad conservative, and my mandhood is doing just fine thank you very much. So I guess that sorta sinks your theory, no?

So its fun and practical to drive a sports car but not an SUV? Why not just a normal sedan to get here and there.

4WD won't save you from a skid in the snow.

It'll get you moving easier that 2WD, but it will make no difference in slowing/stopping in snow and ice.

Duh its not going to slow you or stop you from moving. The point I am trying to make is that when you skid you turn the wheel the opposite way. If you quickly touch the gas lightly it will pull the car forward and out of the skid. Its not going to stop you from moving, its going to stop you from skidding. That doesn't work with 2wd.

You know what. Maybe we should get rid of cars and walk every where. Riding horses would be animal abuse. So fine. Lets walk.

What do you call a sports car then?

The other side of the same coin...sports car is like "I'm the best, I'm not going to stick around...but you'll love it for as long as it lasts"...where as SUVs are more "I'm good, I can provide for you." The sports car goes after the fish that will bite at anything, whereas the SUV goes after people with the same insecurities as the owner.

Ah, sarcasm!

Why do people think SUV drivers have insecurities. Everybody does. This is ridiculous.

Sports car drivers are usually losers trying to look cool or 50 year old men having their midlife crisis.

I just want to thank you for being the "driving" force behind this conversation. must be hard playing devil's advocate.

What I was really targeting was the giant tanks on wheels hummer im gonna kill you if I JUST bumb into ya vehicles.

Ever try to get three children's car seats in the back of a civic? Or even two car seats and a bit of groceries? I know quite a few people who have SUV's for the space. Why they skipped mini-vans, I'll never know.

Myself? I drive a Saturn VUE (Big enough for just about everything I need, especially when the seats are down and tall enough to get through the snow) and a Jeep Liberty (my work vehicle - and yes, I do take it off road. WAAAAY off road...).

something thats fun to drive

to the whole size issue. I'm rather large..... 6'3" to be exact and I fit in most cars as a passenger and there hasn't been a driver's seat I haven't fit in. Now the person behind me isn't so lucky but what ever.

(man this forum exploded)

My dad is tall too (and is getting on in years) and he likes trucks/SUVs because he can fit in them better and they are easier on his knees & back to get into & out of than cars. That being said, he got rid of his GMC a few years ago and got a Buick sedan as the fuel cost for owning the Jimmy just got too high.

I'm only 5'8" so I don't have "tall people" problems like that. I also can fly relatively comfortably in coach too. :D

All you SUV haters will love this video. What a waste of a land rover. The airbags didn't deploy in the rover.... yay for british engineering.

In the rover's dense, it has a design older than most of us on this forum. Its frame is based on the original Range Rover from the 70's. The Discovery originated in 1989 I believe and the design has not changed dramatically between then and 1989-1998 when that disco was made.

Trucks get worse fuel econemy with the tailgate DOWN. The Tailgate up creates a kind of air bubble that spins and deflects on-coming air.

Not True my dads Mitsubishi L200 Crew Cab does 40MPG and he uses it as a truck should be used. We go off roading, haul dirt bikes and soon we'll be towing a boat.

for the record
Im not a suv hater, in fact we own one. but we use the car most of the time. We had more people in our family but they went college and the return on it is low so we keep it.

Yes, true. Mythbusters did a trip with a truck. One trip with the tailgate down and another with the tailgate up. The trip with the tailgate up resulted in higher fuel economy then the one down. But, I don't see how your explanation proves that down is better or what Mythbusters saw was wrong.

I read the post wrong, I thought she meant trucks have worst fuel economy than suvs
