Twitter has a data privacy agreement with the FTC that probably puts a cork on that idea thankfully
I forgot about that.

And look what the billionaire genius thought about the FTC decree forced on Twitter last year:

Good.

God.

"Musk and his team are "terrified employees are going to sabotage the company."" He is doing a fine job of that himself. Someone needs to tell him the days of treating employee like crap are over. Your best people are just going to walk and get a job where they are respected. What an idiot. They are losing their best talent. Who in all honestly wants to stick around and be treated like that? Taking away privileges, forcing them to work in the office, and threatening them that they need to work like slaves or they are gone. No thanks mate!!!

Musk thought that he could scare the employees to stay when it did the exact opposite as hundreds were reported to have left and took the severance package.
Hopefully, they can file for unemployment but Musk would probably deny them.
At least the employees have 3 months severance and time to look for another job.
Good luck to the remaining non-engineer employees. Hopefully they'll find another job soon when they leave.
It's not worth working for a boss like Musk who micromanages and insults employees to make them work harder. Musk created a toxic work environment all on his own.
He could've paid the $1B termination fee and walked away, savings $43B, but his Ego didn't allow it.
Now he's in slash and burn mode as users are deactivating their accounts, advertisers are leaving, the team in charge of Musk's changes have left and he's hemorrhaging money as the monthly fees are currently on hold so hardly any money coming in.
Musk did this to himself as it's all on him.

Oof. Well, that’s one way for him to tank his own value more I guess. The FTC fined Meta $5B a while ago for screwing up such an agreement, Twitter itself couldnt afford a fine like that right now, it would have to come out of Musk’s pocket

I love how everybody here is suddenly a business executive and has experience running one of the, if not the biggest social media/news sites in the world. I see a lot of haters that sound real jealous and salty of someone else's success. Who CARES what he does to Twitter? Who cares if he blows it up and shuts it down?! IT'S HIS TO DO WHAT HE WANTS. Do you also put in your 2 cents when Sears or The Good Guys closed up? Lots of Monday morning quarterbacking going on. Not sure why so many people let his success or failures get under their skin so much. It's HIS money, HIS company, and HIS life. Stop always being haters and rooting for failure. Those Twitter employees that he is expecting hard work and commitment from....they get paid A LOT of money and have a ton of other perks besides just salary. Id' expect them to commit and work hard too. People are complete babies nowadays. Everyone EXPECTS everything to be given to them and everyone gets so offended over everything.

It’s not even worth it anymore. Peace & family time over anything. Twitter will end up like MySpace or it will go bankrupt. It’s coming!

In behaviour economics, we learned that the number of employees doing most of the work in a team or company can be calculated by the square root of the total employees.

So...

Team of 4, then 2.

Team of 9, then 3.

Team of 16, then 4.

...

Team of 100, only 10.

...

Team of 10,000, only 100. <-- This is approximately the scale of Twitter before Elon.

I would keep firing and shed the deadweight.

The difficult part is to keep the best employees and let go the bad ones. One thing you can never do is to lower compensation. This will only drive away the best, who got options. The only alternative is firing and trimming all the time.

I am an expert in this, literally. My career is as a senior engineer in devops automation and infrastructure for large scale enterprise SaaS products. So I say this as an expert: what musk is doing is going to completely tank the ability for twitter to function

As for why to care? Outside anything else a lot of folks, including friends and acquaintances of a lot of folks on this forum, are getting their lives upended right now. Also the industry as a whole is waffling between headdesking and eating popcorn at the insanity. It’s like a trainwreck, I cant stop watching

Musk just brought in George Hotz to join on this "Twitter 2.0" project, and if you know the significance of this, you won't be calling Elon stupid.

I just lost a lot of respect for him, but also he didnt actually rejoin twitter, he’s just commenting. Musk did ping him but that doesnt mean he’s actually going back

EDIT: Also probably couldnt be rehired now anyway given there’s pretty much no HR dept left 🤣
