I don't think you understand, you hands/wrists should hover above the computer just like the previous poster stated, like at a piano. Only your fingertips should touch.

Ah, I see. The picture says "wrist raising hand into 'claw' position" is incorrect, so I assumed it was the angle of the wrist that was wrong in the incorrect form. Like it's bad if I bend my hands into claws, which is impossible when pressing my wrists to the edge at an angle. You can place your wrists on the edge while keeping the wrist angle of the proper "hovering" form by lowering your elbows, but you can't touch the edge of MBP if you're doing the "claw" because if you touch it, your fingers can't reach the keys.

Well, I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but whatever. Thanks for enlightening me.

Type however you want, I am merely explaining proper typing technique, which has been around long before :apple:.

Lay off the coffee. ;) :p

I do remember proper typing posture, but that was when I was using a mechanical typewriter with a carriage return. Many things have changed since then. :)

Working at a computer for hours and hours to get a project done - there's no way i can keep my wrists elevated for that long. Not to mention constantly grabbing the mouse. Maybe my desk is too high? To elevate my wrists as suggested would require me to look like I was constantly shrugging. What if you were sitting in an easy chair typing, or in another relaxed seating position? It might not be possible. It is a laptop, so you could really be sitting in a lot of non-ergonomic ways.

They need to make some type of clear tape or edging that goes around the front. I would imagine someone will come up with it soon.

Also when I type I have my hands lifted up like playing the piano properly.

This is easy if you're a "hunt and pecker" like me, ( albeit, a fairly fast hunt and pecker).

I will admit to taking my watch off when I use my UMBP, it hits every once in a while, and always makes me wince.

I think it's just poor design by Apple. (GASP!) It makes sense not to put sharp edges on anything that comes into contact with bare human skin. The best way to cope I've come up with so far is to type with my hands actually coming at the keyboard from the sides (believe it or not).

Many things have changed equipment-wise but the techniques have not.

Chances are that your desk IS too high for a laptop. That is why many desktop computers use AKP's. Correct posture has everything to do with correct form. Your arms should be parallel to the ground (elbows @ 90˚) with your wrists flat/slightly curved down (never up).

Chair height is another essential element to proper form. Your feet should be flat on the ground (knees @ 90˚). Therefore, your worksurface should only be a few inches above your knee height for laptop use.

It is a laptop, so you could really be sitting in a lot of non-ergonomic ways.

That is a choice you have to make for yourself. If correct ergonomics, tendinitis, and carpal tunnel doesn't bother you, then use it however you would like.

I find it easier to adjust the furniture I am using than risk injury. ;)

Yup, grab your belt-sander! :p

I wrote an email to Apple and also mentioned to the people at an Apple Store that it would make the notebook a little more 'pleasant' if they could 'round-over' that edge.

My concern wasn't so much damage to me, but knowing how Aluminum is, should something hit that edge it will deform more easily.

I fabricate custom aluminum mounting fixtures for use on motorcycles and I never leave an edge like that. The edge reminds me of a piece of freshly cut aluminum stock right off the table saw.

I may ( if it won't mess up the notebook ) round-over the edge just a tad using some wet/dry sandpaper say around 800 grit.

But in all honesty it's not a real issue for me.

If I were real gutsy, I'd dismantle the MBP and finish the job Apple left undone.

I take Ambien to get to sleep. That and the MBP don't get alone. I was doing some work while waiting to get sleepy enough to go to bed, next thing I know there was a bam and my nose was hurting. I felt it and then saw blood on my hand. I went back to working and then, bam, it happened again. I kept falling asleep and the bridge of my nose had a nice gash in it from hitting the edge of the palm rest. Needless to say I decided it was best to go to bed.

I've been using my Unibody MacBook Pro a lot lately and I haven't had any problems with "cutting."

;)

You have to have like really thin skin or ramming your wrist hard on the edges to get it cut. I just tired on my MacBook and it doesn't even hurt at all. Let alone slitting my wrist.

I might go to an automotive place and check out their door edging. Maybe they have some thin stuck-on stuff that would work.

Mine has taken over the kitchen duties that once were tasked to my Popeils Dial-o-matic. Set on 4, it can shave dark chocolate for my morning scone...

found a fix that works without altering the MBP.

http://www.targus.com/US/product_details.asp?sku=AWE09US

It places the keyboard at a comfortable typing angle as well. I tried other versions of a laptop stand (belkin one sold at costco and another targus one with risers) but this one is the most stable and also looks the best.

I wish the MBP had little feet or a riser that flips down to raise the back a 1/2 inch.

I never had problems with getting cut.. but i noticed the sharp edge sometimes.

My moshi Palm guard has effectively blunted the edge - might be worth considering.

That's a good point. But I have to admit, I've never really noticed the edges being so sharp so it's hard to agree with the OP's melodramatic post.

Well, I'm suing apple. After two months of use I cant believe my wrists look like this.

Good luck with that. They will just tell you you arent using it properly probably, thus they arent liable.

That is terrible (your wrist). So much so that you should modify how you type, whether you have the mac or not :(

I personally take zopiclone - not as powerful as you describe though. On the side of my bottle it does state however not to use heavy machinery, drive, or type on unibody macbook pros.

Gosh, some of you guys are oversensitive and take things too literally. I've had to change the topic twice already.
