Yea, they could name it something catchy - like Macbook Air :p :D

Good idea! Then the people insist that the MacBook Pro should sacrifice performance over thinness on a $3000 laptop can get this MacBook "Air" thingy and everyone else can enjoy the MacBook Pro being Pro for once :D

very soon, because macmall aggressively tries to get rid of old stock with price reductions- first they posted 40 hour sale, now Christmas in July. ALso new models start at 200 greens less, that is unheard sale for such popular product.

I hope for 2 things- they will not sell some inventory by the time mbp will hit the market and they will have to reduce price even more. Reason will be simple- everything will be updated and old stock will be too expensive at such price point. I think you can reasonably expect at least optional 500 GB hard drive in 15 inch mbp, also upgraded processors, graphic card and a few other things. And case redesign will drop old stock price considerably.

SO my price points are such- 1K for mb and 1.5K for mbp, with included apple care. I don't feel like shelling out 2K+, so Steve will not get my money for some time. Steve, do you have an offer?:cool::cool:

The sad part is, the HP's are just a teeny bit thicker then the MBP, though they are not even remotely as stylish.

Sounds to me like you're doubting the party.

Stasi, get him!

Now repeat after me, "1.3 inches isn't thin enough, it must be 1 inch for it is a round number and everyone knows round numbers are more.. powerful, in some way, and make up for the gross lack of pro featuuuures".

Now go out into the world my son and defend the MBPs embarrassing lack of high end GPUs and optical drives!

Is there en equivalent of MacMall in Europe ?

Tex.

I am afraid in Europe they overcharge for everything. Taxes are higher there. You could try to get it cheaper in a countries where taxes are lower. Or try someone here to ship you. But with a shipping and such you will probably pay the same... But hey, don't you guys earn more? Now with a dollar :mad:down?

It's not the taxes that bother us, it's that companies like Apple price their computers higher here even before tax.

Hmm, shipping from US would be to complicated I fear.

If we earn more we also pay more :) For example the 2.5 MBP costs now $3,468 in europe vs $2,499 in US. :(

If they really stop producing Santa Rosa and Apple needs to move on to the next platform, what do Apple have to lose by releasing Montevina early or on time to let people get on the wagon? Apple won't gain anything by suspending their new releases and force people to get their old craps.

Just checked international apple stores -
seems mb in Europe goes everywhere for 999 euros
except 949 euros in Spain, 950 Luxembourg;
and with todays euro prices 895 euros in Switzerland 876 euros in Great Britain;
a whooping 1080 euros in Norway, 1031 euros in Sweden, Denmark 1045
Plus some other price check outside apple store:
In Lithuania the same macbook cost 983 euro,
Russia- 1044
Belarus-1044

Same problem for me. I am leaving the US in 2 weeks and I wanted to buy a 15-inch, 2.4GHz Macbook Pro.

Price in the US after tax: 2,139 USD
Price in Europe after tax: 2,837 USD

That is a difference of almost 700 USD

And now this: Is Apple releasing a new version just weeks after my purchase? Maybe they will adjust prices between the US and Europe (which I doubt)...
Big dilemma...

Poland, entry level (basic model) macbook 922 euro
Romenia 1102
Bulgaria 1079

so for Germans probably Switzerland is the best price... Unless you want to travel to UK.

can you return it back (in Europe) if something goes wrong? Or replace it? Is there something like money back guarantee?

So you think Apple doesn't have to pay any European taxes? It's less expensive for them to operate in the U.S, and probably the less developed countries. They have to cover their costs of operating in Europe.

Yeah I'm sure that also explain the price up of entirely online services like iTS.

How many times do people have to tell you that a pro laptop, which fills a pro niche, does not need a high end, inaccurate gaming card?

Pfft, who need mobile broadband, blu ray, HDMI and a decent GPU when itz one intch fick bAbY!

I'm hoping the next MacBook Pros are another half and inch thinner, Apple can get rid of the optical drive and dedicated GPU if they like, by definition whatever Apple gives me is "all I need"! :D

/sarcasm

Yeah, give up all those feature cuz some stoopit, anorexic supermodel type can't lift up a 6 pound notebook. What a bunch of pussys. Hit the gym girls. :D

Bingo.

You people with 1cm wrists have your MacBook Air now, leave us the MacBook Pro to boast cutting edge features at last. We pay cutting edge prices.

Apparently nobody is shipping Montevina notebooks yet, and nobody has discontinued SR notebooks yet. I don't remember exactly how long those things took with Penryn, but I think it was comparable. That means we are still on track for September 16th MacBook Pros.

I have a growing body of knowledge manufacturing things, and I can understand exactly why MBPs don't have Blu Ray and certain other options. Offering options means you make smaller runs of each product, making it more expensive. Including new technologies makes it buggy, which apple hates. Apple Makes all it's own hardware and software so it can minimize bugs, and that is fundamentally opposed to offering options and features. Apples do one thing well, they are not meant to do everything poorly, like a PC or Linux machine.
