Would you buy iPhone without charging port?

  • HELL YES: less holes, less headache

  • HELL NO: who doesn't want more holes

It's very likely that Apple's next feature on the chopping block is the charging port.

With the advent of wireless charging, obviously it's not needed anymore.

I'd rather have a serious waterproofness than an extra hole.

Would you buy such an iPhone, or would you switch to Galaxy S10 or whatever?
No, more holes the better

Apple will not get rid of the charging port. At least not any time soon. Qi is already not limited to Apple. They would kill the sales of their lightning cables. Apple is more about sales than product so no way this is happening.

the port will go definitively sooner or later

I would buy nothing that had no charge port. I set my phone in a vertical holder in my vehicle. When I fly, I use a portable battery to charge. A cord and battery is less space than a Qi pad and battery.

That would be courageous. If they could somehow figure out how to turn my wire dependent Carplay into wireless Carplay, I would bite.

If they didn't they wouldn't keep disabling 3rd party non certified wires with each iOS update and they wouldn't be charging an arm and a leg in royalties on mfi certifications.
They make lots of money with cable sales.
thats because the cables work

You can't use your phone while it's sitting on the charging pad. Also, wireless charging is inefficient. 20-80% of energy is wasted, depending on model. To have that happen in large scale is unacceptable.

The lightning port would probably go away but then it will be replaced by the USB C

No, wireless charging isn’t as fast as wired (even fast wireless charging which Apple doesn’t support) so no charging port would be a deal breaker.

In 2100, technology will be so far advanced from where we are now. We are still in the infancy of mobile computing. 83 years from now, we will have no idea how advanced these things will be able to get.

83 years ago, computers didn't exist. 63 years ago, computers with far less computing power than the Apple Watch filled entire rooms. We've gone from that to having a supercomputer in your pocket. Today's smartphones are faster than desktop computers from a decade ago, and many times over the speed and capability of those from 20 years ago. In 83 years, we'll have tech we couldn't even imagine right now.

But in the short term: no, I would not buy a phone that only had wireless charging.

Tim Cook the 4th will introduce the iPhone XXXXXXXXXIIIs with Super Super Retina Truest Tone Quantum Display.

If they could produce a wireless charging method that matches the fast charge usb-c performance (50% in 30min) I wouldn't miss the charging port. It would of course have to be able to charge without being in contact with any pad, ring or magnet…

Wireless charging isn't new, the ability to charge a phone wireless has been around for years, even the iPhone has been able to charge wirelessly if given a proper case. The OP speaks as if this is a new invention.

That said, wireless charging is great in theory and bad in practice because you really can't use a device that's being charged wirelessly. It has to pay flat on the charger and lay properly in order to charge at that. At least if its plugged in you can pick it up and use it while its charging.
