It would definitely give me a lot of pause... Apple would really need to wow and dazzle me with other things.... I dunno. I find it hard to imagine locking myself in to a non-lte phone for 2 years.

I'd probably wait and try an WP8 phone honestly, I've been kinda wanting to try one of those. From there I'd decide if I want to keep the WP8 or return it and get the iPhone 5.

But I don't see any way Apple would NOT release it with LTE, so WHEW!

If there is no LTE, no NFC and essentially just a taller screen - I'll be really hesitant to upgrade. I skipped the 4S upgrade expecting the 5 to be a significant change.

I'd probably just keep my current model. Though I'd seriously consider picking up an S3to see if I liked it. I'm more impressed with what the S3 offers than an iP5 without LTE, NFC, etc.

Worst case, I could always switch back to my iP4 and be out a couple of hundred bucks. I'd rather drop that on an S3 than a marginally improved iP5. We'll see what's announced next week...

Well, unless they want to not offer it on Verizon, it'll have to have LTE. So I'm not the least bit concerned about the hypothetical possibility of it not having LTE.

The likelihood of no LTE is very high.

It seems that Apples assault on the competition is beginning to cause push back problems for them.

Having experienced LTE on my Galaxy S III, I can say it's really terrific.

I will look forward to a new iPhone next year or the year after, once they include a larger display and LTE.

In the meantime I will just keep using my 4S along with my spectacular Android phones.

How many phones do you use?

How many phones do you use?
Minimum of one iOS & one Android concurrently. Then there are others from a foreign distributor. I find what I'd like to buy on GSMarena then order from one of my offshore sources. I've enjoyed a lot of phones this way, acquired a lot of experience and kept things interesting. Having a total of four lines for GSM models it's a fun way to satisfy my addiction.

I can't imagine apple being that stupid to not make this offering LTE.
Apple doesn't have a choice their toxic karma is now in the way.

Remind us exactly how Apple doesn't have a choice? You haven't quite backed that one up yet.
It's well documented in other threads.

Samsung has patent coverage on it, they're just waiting to sue Apple the moment Apple decides to implement NFC without licensing it. While Apple also has a patent depending on how it's implemented they don't have what they need.

In other words, Apple started this acrimonious war, now it may come back on them.

Instead of focusing on what Apple does best (world class products) and market supremacy, they got paranoid & decided to fight it out in court, have Samsung products banned, and generate negative distractions.

Still has the other improvements of course but interested in iPhone enthusiasts: If the next iPhone doesn't have LTE... do you still buy it? Do you leave to Android / Windows phone?

What will I do? Nothing, I'll still buy it.

Why?

CAUSE I AIN'T GOT NO FREAKIN' LTE!!!

Did you mean to say LTE instead of NFC? Samsung said they'd sue Apple if they released an LTE iPhone, but theres a problem with Samsung's claims. LTE is a standard essentials technology and is protected under FRAND. Apple most likely will try to license LTE from Samsung and Samsung will probably deny them. Apple will then release their LTE iPhone and get sued by Samsung, but since LTE is protected under FRAND, Samsung will be forced to license the LTE patents to Apple whether they like it or not.

In the UK it will have no impact as LTE will not be introduced here until the next generation iPhone. The UK is falling far behind the rest of the world in this field.

This.
Of course I want LTE, but the UK's not even auctioning the 800 MHz spectrum for LTE until 2013. Never mind carriers getting all their prices sorted etc. May be 2014 before we see LTE.

I know the area where I work has GREAT LTE (I only know this cause I've helped a few coworkers with their 4G phones and noticed GREAT 4G/LTE speeds). I have no idea about the area I live in, though (Doesn't matter i'm always on WIFI at home). Either way, i'll be excited to test out some LTE goodness! Plus, my wife gets my 4S, so it's a double upgrade!

100% chance it will have LTE. Plus the iPad got it. Not having LTE on the 4S was seen as a major fail by many. Apple would absolutely not exclude it on this years iPhone.

It must get the LTE. It would be such a huge deal breaker if it doesn't have it. Moreover, the iPad had it! (although I heard it is a different Qualcomm chip this time)

But - the LTE Apple uses most likely will only work in the US and Canada, so I don't really care.

Verizon has already said that all future phones are required to have LTE.

Will it have it?
Will my provider here in germany offer it?
Will they charge extra for it?

Many important questions that might influence my decision. Being available without extra cost it might push me over the edge.

No LTE = Dealbreaker.
Having switched from Att to Verizon recently, HSPA+ doesn't hold a candle to LTE.

I know AT&T gets a lot of crap for their service, but in my area it works great. So LTE would not be a deal breaker right now.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but no 4G LTE would be a deal breaker for me. Verizon has it in spades here in my area so I will be taking advantage of it in a matter of days, whether it's in the iPhone 5 (or whatever it will be called) or the S3 (the only other phone I'm considering ATM). I've got an iMac and iPod, and my kids have the iPhone 4, so I particularly enjoy the Mac experience (and Siri is something that I'm very interested in, too). I'm confident that I won't have to go with the S3.

The only thing that has kept me from an iPhone in the past (I've been a Droid X owner for nearly 2 1/2 years) is screen size. Now that this issue seems to have been solved with the iPhone 5, the only other thing that I insist on is 4G LTE. I've played around with it on friends' and colleagues' phones and it is truly FAST. When I'm not at home on my wireless network I want to be able to enjoy online speed, and 4G LTE FAR outpaces 3G (it's probably faster than my home network as well but I can't say for certain). Nearly all current gen smart phones have 4G LTE, and given that Apple has historically been the leader in smart phone technology - both hardware and software - (although others are certainly catching up and may have become Apple's equal in some respects), I would be shocked if Apple doesn't integrate it into the new iPhone.

Can't wait for next Wednesday!

Very far from being a "deal breaker". Most of the country does not have LTE coverage. So there are a few that are spoiled by having it, while the rest couldn't care much less.
And even if the phone did have LTE, with no coverage its literally useless.

I'm in Dallas and there is coverage, yet I don't care one way or the other. I'm not the type that limits myself to my carriers coverage. Way too many hotspots to hold myself back to my carrier.

Even with 3G, my entire family barely uses 200mb per month.

Well actually, Apple has been busy bunnies prepping the inevitible upcoming LTE lawsuits by snapping up every LTE patent they can:

LTE is currently of no use, since DC-HSDPA (that's 3G) currently sometimes still go beyond real life LTE speeds. Also, 95% of all the iPhone customers won't even have access to LTE (yes, the world doesn't just end when you near the borders of the USA).

In other words: I couldn't care less if the device does or doesn't support LTE.
