I'd personally wait and continue using my SE until the X arrived. Yes I'd like the device sooner, but it's not like my current devices aren't sufficient for the time being.

Exactly. If stores are only going to have such a limited stock, you have to be one of the first in line to have a chance.

I will order and wait, while I continue to use my 7 Plus, which is a pretty terrific smartphone.

The only thing that will really bug me is that such a delay will further extend my AT&T Next upgrade cycle which will make some headaches for me next fall. But whatever. It is what it is.

Thats fine by me. I'll definitely cancel my order and just have to "settle" with my Galaxy Note 8 lol. But why wouldn't you cancel if that's true? Why paying full price on a phone but have to wait 2,3 months into its life cycle to actually use it.

I’m just going to wait. Probably because I do not want mishapen apps until most developers update their apps. Hell it only took 4 years for Sirius XM to finally update for plus sized iPhones.

It's not as crazy as it sounds to be honest, but it really depends. If we are talking about a $200-$400 premium in order to get it 2+ months early, I'd pay that. If we are talking about $2,500-$3,000 like some scalpers are hoping for, I'll definitely wait for the next phone Sept 2018 as the phone i really want is the X plus (if legit).
