I absolutely despise the Touch Bar

The Touch Bar might be useful for people that can't type without looking at the keyboard.

But, for all other people that type quickly and don't have to look at the keyboard, the Touch Bar makes absolutely no sense.

Everything it does can be done by moving your mouse pointer around the screen.

Emojis are shown in a single line on the Touch Bar, where you have to swipe your finger left and right to look for the one you want.
Meanwhile, by pressing control + cmd + space, a window with several columns and lines shows easily selectable (with mouse) emojis. All that without having to look at the keyboard.

Yea, but it's still way better than a touch screen right? Well that's what they tell you...
[doublepost=1479356858][/doublepost]Cant wait for the thread explaining how to bypass the touch bar.

I'm really not a fan of the touch bar so far in Safari. I haven't found a single practical use for it yet and the colorful bookmarks that show up every time I'm entering a URL are driving me crazy, especially notable now that I'm using my computer in a dark room.

Like someone mentioned above, the touch bar really works best with the monochrome buttons - it actually looks great that way. But these tab previews and colorful bookmarks are loud enough to constantly draw my attention to the touch bar for no reason and it gets distracting.

Don't get me wrong, I do see the benefit of the touch bar, and I think it will be very good in time, but right now I can't say I'm the biggest fan. Looks cool and is fun to show off to friends, but that's about it for me so far. If I could get the non-TB version with superior battery life AND Touch ID, but without the touch bar, I would jump on that in a heartbeat. Here's hoping the touch bar quickly matures.

EDIT

Here's an example of the tab shortcuts on the touch bar that are bright enough to unnecessarily draw your attention away from the screen:

Im excited for Microsoft to incorporate the touch bar in with the office programs.

Not having used one....but I assume that the touch bar will be for mainstream people who do not know about keyboard shortcuts or are unwilling to invest the 10 minutes it takes to memorize 5 of the most common ones that will save you hours in the long run. This is 90% of people. I believe that the more pro you are, the less likely you will use the touchbar and the more likely you will hate it. I also believe that changing contexts is really detrimental to concentration and the touchbar violates this rule too much. The appeal of the touchbar to the non-geeks and its marketing as the worth-the-4-year-wait feature further strengthens the widespread sentiment that these are not pro computers. They should have changed the name and much of the furor would have died down because we'd just hold onto 0.1% hope that a true pro model would be released.

So does anyone think windows laptops (known for apeing apple laptops features) will jump on the touch-bar trend? (yeah, I know Lenovo had one in 2015 and ditched it)

From the picture I can tell that your touch bar is brighter than the screen. This is strange because on mine, the touch bar seems dimmer than the screen.

Sounds a little like an alpha, undeveloped product. Not to have a few simple options for the app that is used 90% of the time?

Lenovo had it right by having dedicated Esc key separated from their "touchbar"

I have to say Safari on Touch Bar is a f******* mess. I can't believe Tim allowed for Safari tabs to look so ugly on their flagship, supposedly "the most beautiful" MacBook Pro. Hard to believe they couldn't come up with a more elegant way of displaying Safari tabs. Oh, and imagine how annoying it is to have to stare at this ugly mess every time I use Safari, which is like 99% of the time.
Holy ****... I just looked at Safari. I'm so sorry man........................... wow. RIP

Can't. Search Field automatically comes with tabs. And I want to have Search Field.

I might have a tip for you... So if your goal is to easily be able to search from the keyboard, you could remove the search from the touch bar (and the ugly tabs), and just use the COMMAND+L hotkey. This is one of my favorite browser hotkeys, and I must use it hundreds of times a day. It focuses the address bar while you're in the browser so you can search/enter a new URL.

My problem with the touch bar is that when I am sitting on the couch with the laptop on my lap the keyboard is usually on a slightly downward angle. Thus I cannot really see the touch bar when the keyboard is at this angle. Also does not help that the touch bar lighting is so dim.

I got tired of all the different touch bar options changing because of using different programs so for the time being just set it up to use the basic function keys.

Yup, I'm well aware of command-L. Use it all the time. In fact, my Touch Bar is hardly getting any use since I know pretty much all keyboard shortcuts. Even though Touch Bar is right there, it's just so much easier and faster to just press a couple of keys. So far I try to force myself to use Touch Bar instead of keyboard shortcuts in order to at least feel a little better about this stupidly expensive purchase. I know, pathetic.

Ah true dat. Respek

I just got fully loaded 15" model.

- The screen tint on mine is very red, almost like f.lux is on... I can tweak that later with calibration.

- The keyboard actually feels very good. It will take some getting used to but I can type much faster.

But man... the Touch Bar... ****.

I'm a programmer, I love vim, my entire life is dedicated to workflow. I program for 15+ hours a day sometimes, and as bad as it sounds I'm the type of person that just uses every hotkey ever made.

This thing really royally ****s me so hard.

- I can't rest my hand comfortably when I'm in "close tab" position while browsing, because my long fingers constantly rest on the escape key (so it thinks I'm holding the key down)

- My biggest pet peeve... I CANT ****ING CONTROL MUSIC WITHOUT LOOKING AND TAPPING. This one is unbelievable to me... I must skip forward/back at least 500 times a day. Now it requires staring down... hitting 'expand', still look around, then hit the glass key. They should have those always visible at the very least. They also don't let you customize it with << and >>

- They keyboard / touch bar remains black until you log in... so basically during the entire bootup / choose user sequence, youre staring at a pitch black keyboard, as well as a pitch black touch bar. You can't see ****, you cant' adjust anything during that time, etc.

- It's extremely limited in customizability. At the very least if they let you control when/how it behaves... it might be bearable because I could tell it "never ever ever turn to the miniature version". Or "if chrome opens, just dont load the that apps touchbar". But of course, they give you like 3 icons to choose from.

Overall I feel like I'm having an existential crisis XD I've gotten used to my workflow over the course of 10 years programming every day and now it feels like even the simplest things (with the touchbar) are just ****ed.

I know two people who have purchased the touch bar MacBook Pros. Guess what? Neither use the laptop for anything more than browsing, streaming video and Office. Most people who "enjoy" or "love" this laptop are users who wanted a better MacBook Air. Anyone who is a true Pro user and needs FUNCTIONALITY hates this laptop. Apple has prioritized looks and marketing over functionality. It's sad to see and their earnings report will reflect this.

Also, most programmers and heavy computer users rely on keyboard shortcuts versus using the mouse.

I rest my hands on the esc key also when not typing. I didn't realize this until the touch bar and the constant *bonk *bonk *Bonk noise from holding down the esc key on accident.

Pretty lame indeed
