And yet many people waited and made the jump from Windows 7 to Windows 10, explicitly so they didn't have to deal with Vista and it's horrible UI elements.
This comment doesn’t even make sense.
I think you mean people skipped over Vista and waited for Windows 7.
Windows Vista came out in 2007, windows 7 in 2009, Windows 10 in 2015.
And Windows 7 was basically Windows Vista, but polished.

It is Windows Vista all over again. As humans, we learn nothing. Vista was the most hated Windows of all time. Because it made it harder to use. We want easier, not harder, Apple. Hire me and I GUARANTEE you that I will tell you what to do to fix this thing the the cat puked up that some call 26. It reeks of vestiges of Jony Ive. Good riddance.
Ive would never have approved this mess. He was about simplicity afaik. This has too many animations, too many gimicks. The irony is people are saying Android is now the GUI that is simple and clean, something I would have never thought a half-decade ago.

I am starting to be convinced Apple will soon (next decade or so) recede back to something like their 90s low point. It’s inevitable with their current leadership.

Just adding to the pile on really.
What a mess overall, probably worse on iPad to be fair but, I mean, what are they thinking. Reduce transparency helps but still doesn't cure the bad design choices by placing item above others, just to 'show' the transparency off. Change for change sake I feel.

I personally like the way iOS 26 looks. But I get that anytime you change a design, some people will hate it because they miss how it used to be.

It’s funny though, the reaction to iOS 7 was so much worse. Not only did it look hideous, but it was so slow. But people got used to it.
I’ll never understand this because I loved iOS 7 instantly. It was so clean modern and simple. This is NOT that.

Having to go into a submenu in order to open a new tab was the one thing that annoyed me the most in iOS26.

But if you change the tab setting from compact to below, you are back to how it used to look.
Wow thank you! It shouldn’t have to be that way because I prefer the compact look but this is still so much better than before.

only two things ive noticed so far, too many steps to close out browser tabs. i might go to a different browser. and two many steps to block unwanted SMS and too many steps to block email. you have to go to the contact card? SMH
Change Safari from compact to bottom or top, this almost completely fixed safari for me!

Not that this post will matter 17 pages in (lol) but just thought I would give my thoughts. I switch between the Z Fold 7 and a 16 Pro Max, the difference since the new iOS 26 and the Folds UI8 are night and day. I was excited to upgrade my iPhone and couldn't be more disappointed. The iOS is choppy, not as smooth as it used to be, using Siri compared to Gemini is absolutely abysmal STILL!!!! Asked Siri to text my mom yesterday and it was a whole production, Gemini just does it right the first time. Those of you insisting "i'll never switch to android, their OS sucks blah blah blah", I have no idea what android your comparing iOS 26 too but there's no way 26 is better then UI8. Apple listen up WE DON'T WANT NEW MEMJOIS!!! WE JUST WANT AN OS THAT WORKS!!!!
what about how long it's supported ? IOS 26 still runs on 6 year old devices.

He meant Windows 8, not Vista.

Lots of people liked Windows 7 and stayed on it until Windows 10 was available because Windows 8 forced everyone on the Metro UI that they didn't like. So people used 7, skipped 8, and went straight to 10. Similarly, many people who do not like Liquid Glass will just skip iOS 26 and hope things look better in iOS 27.

And just like Windows, some Windows 7 holdouts finally upgraded when Windows 8.1 fixed a lot of the mistakes of 8... similarly, iOS 26 holdouts might jump on board in the spring when 26.4 comes out and there are actual new features they care about (i.e. More Personal Siri).

I really like the updates in iOS 26. The metrics on how many upgrade in the true metric as opposed to the criticism on MR.

Not in the least.

What is covering what? Not sure I understand. To me the e keyboard feels better to type on.

When a text box expands in Safai, because you're typing in it, Safari does not scroll to keep up the bottom of the text box or the cursor in view. Meaning, as the box grows, it ends up extending under the keyboard.

This sounds weird because Safari in iOS 18 kept the cursor in view.

You are of course correct. Microsoft has always released "Skip every other version" of Windows. Windows 11 is the current "Vista" release after Windows 10.

I’m just installing iOS 26 on my work phone. My employer requires that the phone always has the latest version, so it has to be done anyway.

I’ll see afterwards whether I’ll also install it on my personal phone.

By the way, I installed Tahoe on my Mac yesterday, and oh boy, the GUI is harder to read. It went in a more confusing direction.

Nobody is keeping a device and running the most current OS on a 6 year old device these days....
??? Lol. I personally know people running iphone 11, iphone 12, iphone 13, and I am on iphone 14. This is 6,5,4 and 3 year old devices. PLENTY of people are running older iphones, dude. Also, I see you avoided answering on how long android will be supported on that device ?

New to this place. I’m a recent iPhone transplant from Android (was on Samsung for almost 15 years). After some tweaking around with customization, I found the right look for me. The 26 design is taking a little more to get used to on my Mac.

This is the fourth mobile OS I’ve been on this year, and this is far better than the change I had to deal with going from One UI 6 to One UI 7 over on my Samsung. Try telling an iPhone user that they are going to have to get used to it acting like Android, but without the main apps or ecosystem that could make Android appealing for people who were open to it. That’s what we dealt with back in the spring. I decided why have Samsung’s watered down wannabe version of an iPhone, when I can just get an iPhone and get all the benefits. So I switched last month. The change from iOS 18 to iOS 26 is much more pleasant than the change from One UI 6 to One UI 7. I won’t mention the change from One UI 7 to iOS 18. That was a three day learning curve. 😆

This is what I see below when I start typing on this forum especially a longer paragraph. Maybe it’s a UI bug (I hope). They should get rid of the address bar when the keyboard is active maybe?

Ok, changing the safari layout to the old old way with the address bar on top seems to fix the above issue. But the point remains that there’s may bugs and poorly thought out design elements with iOS 26. I shouldn’t have to do that and don’t with iOS 18.

Your showing your age, anyone under 35ish aren't keeping their devices for 6+ years lol.
