Ok, changing the safari layout to the old old way with the address bar on top seems to fix the above issue. But the point remains that there’s may bugs and poorly thought out design elements with iOS 26. I shouldn’t have to do that and don’t with iOS 18.
To me the positives outweigh the negatives by a landslide. This is the first release and will get better with further updates.

Why? Now they are going back to working on Apple Intelligence, which will just eat more battery and slow down your phone more. What part of the last two years causes this misplaced optimism? Things are going to get much worse before they can get better.

and why is everything soooo overly animated in iOS 26?

Do my icons really need to fly in every time I close Notification Center?

Does every text box need to pulse and flash when I tap it to type?

Does every iMessage need to flash and animate when I send?

Does the background really need to go black when I use the app switcher?

I feel like I’m going to have a seizure with all this flashing and pulsing.

It's very snappy on my regular iPhone 14, which I did not expect - this drains the battery faster however, which I'm not a fan of as I'd prefer a longer-lasting battery over bouncy liquid glass UI cuteness.

Some apps tho have new UI that is really a huge step backwards in usability and accessibility - Mail, Safari and Phone are just plain terrible, burying functionalities to prioritize less practial items?

I backed up to iOS 18.7.

Some apps started rolling out iOS 26 icons. URL’s so ugly. It feels like they are tilted. Who had this stupid idea?

If you want good battery life forever, your only choice is to stay behind forever. If only battery life were maintained vs the original iOS version, my devices would last far longer.

Sadly, that is still a choice and what I gain by staying behind I eventually lose in terms of compatibility. 19 years on and it remains a choice of performance and battery life vs iOS updates and compatibility.

Jumping on this thread to vent. I’m sure this is already discussed somewhere, but I’m dropping it here, sorry about it.

One Liquid Glass thing I do like is pulling down Notification Center. That looks great….right up to the end when the background changes from my active Home Screen or app to my lock screen. Why not just leave the background alone?

This is what I see below when I start typing on this forum especially a longer paragraph. Maybe it’s a UI bug (I hope). They should get rid of the address bar when the keyboard is active maybe?

I used to subscribe to satellite tv, and something as trivial and dumb as the guide info being on instead of the bottom of the screen was one the reasons I chose to do so. I still have that dish mounted on my roof, and it’s been years since I cancelled.

I’m with you. First thing I did with Safari was to move the search and URL pane to the top of the screen. I made the change before 26 came out, and it just happens to still be there.

Now if Apple or Google (whoever is in charge of it) allow YouTube videos to be pulled down to the left of when the app is open, for us lefty’s, would be nice. Although far from perfect, the other side keeps the setting for as long as you keep the app open. iOS always defaults to the right. Not so comfortable when using a Pro Max.

I think you meant to say Windows 8 and Windows Vista. Windows 7 was one of the best and most solid releases of Windows ever.
No there were a lot of complaints about the performance of the Aero glass theme. Windows 8 did not have this theme, Windows Vista was not as heavy with the transparency effects as Windows 7 was.

And yet many people waited and made the jump from Windows 7 to Windows 10, explicitly so they didn't have to deal with Vista and it's horrible UI elements.
You missed the part where I referenced Windows 7 which was universally received as the best. Yet many people had issues with the performance of the transparency effects of the Aero Glass.

Not gonna lie before it came out I was in the same position as you, thought it was ugly as hell so u totally understand you. With that being said I’m actually enjoying. I think that picking the right wallpaper on the lock screen to make it look nice with the clock is a big deal to me as dumb as it sounds. It is a bit more cartoonish but I do enjoy some of the animations and the visual differences from iOS 18. But again I totally understand you

I’m just installing iOS 26 on my work phone. My employer requires that the phone always has the latest version, so it has to be done anyway.

I’ll see afterwards whether I’ll also install it on my personal phone.

By the way, I installed Tahoe on my Mac yesterday, and oh boy, the GUI is harder to read. It went in a more confusing direction.
It's the first version of MacOS and iOS I would consider rolling back if it wasn't so much trouble. Blech.

I can’t believe they have published an UI that looks so rushed yet I just found they bothered to add their address (Apple Park..) at the top of the envelope of the Mail app. It’s very subtle but it’s there. LOL

Loathe is far too strong a word to use when describing something like this... it gives too much of yourself to it... I don't loathe it, I also don't love it either... However I will go as far as to say I do not like iOS 26 or iPad OS 26, however for some reason iPad OS 26 doesn't bother me as much as iOS 26...

The app icons are too big, no need to be that big and I really don't like the hi-lighted corners... but all this didn't stop me upgrading as the advantages outweigh the ugly...

all that said I won't be upgrading to Tahoe on my laptop anytime soon... if at all...
