Huff, actually just watched

JUST watched this and…..OMFG. That’s awful. I usually hold out on big updates because of bugs (which there doesn’t seem to be a lot of complaints about on 26) but man is that fuglydudley.

Not only is it ugly, but there are some design decisions that’s actually laughable poor in terms of UX.

More like Liquid glASS.

Yeah

It interested me as it felt like they were already moving away from a central plank of iOS 26 that of liquid glass.

Finally got to test it in a store today. I was instantly put off by the look. Feels like a very unnecessary return to skeumorphism. I was really loving the radically flat icons and design elements that put all the focus on the content and functionality. But here comes fake physical materials and light refractions to get in the way all over again.

That's my subjective opinion though, based on my sense for aesthetics and a tendency to judge things based on principle. Glad for you folks who are enjoying iOS 26. But for me it's so off-putting that I'll probably hold off on getting any of the new phones until the design has been tweaked, a more radical non-skeuomorphic setting included, or until I absolutely need to get a new iPhone.
I feel the exact same. And one also knows FOR SURE... that in 5 years they will bring a revolutionary new look and feel involving... yeah, you guessed it... FLAT ICONS again! Pathetic. One would think they have much much better things to accomplish.

Heh! And a bunch of folk on these forums will be saying how fresh and clean and modern it is. And after a day of using it, they'll say that when they now look at iOS 26 it looks old fashioned and outdated. And then they'll say: everyone who doesn't like it, hates change. Same old…

I have to agree with OP .. My wife and I purchased 2 17 Pro Max's .. Turn them on hated IOS26 and returned the 17's and went back to our great 15 Pro Max's ! That's that. We have apple care on the 15's so we keep these for now. They also lowered the volume when texting and there was no way to make it louder. The liquid glass looks terrible. Car Play wallpapers look like crap the list goes on !

I didn't like it at first but now it's growing on me. They've made some adjustments since the early betas that don't hurt my eyes as much anymore. I love glass effects anyway though, so I'm probably biased.

I am scared to put it on my wife's phone, but eventually I am going to have to do it, right...
Wait it out at least a few months. And this goes double for macOS 26, if you have a Mac.

There are weird bugs left and right. A few UI improvements and some cool features, but it's not worth it IMO at this juncture.

I will have to return my iPhone 17 that just arrived - iOS 26 isn't any better on the newest devices, it still hurts physically in my eyeballs to try and focus on anything on the screen because it's all a blurred, glassy mess.

26.1 looks like it might help? Frosted glass is much easier than the clear, reflective stuff everywhere.

I'm ok with Liquid Glass.

I'm not ok with the new scheme regarding blocking/unblocking unwanted calls and the extra steps involved, You can't just see everything and have to switch views. Hate that!

Thank goodness my wife hasn't updated her phone yet. I'm not looking forward to that day.

Just “up”graded my iPhone to iOS 26 and I absolutely hate it. It’s visually the ugliest iOS Apple has ever produced. The icons all have a distracting (and non-sensical) edge to them. The blurred wallpapers look nothing like they used to.

It’s so ugly I’m thinking of cancelling my iPhone Air order and looking at Samsung options.
Try out a Pixel. I have the 10 Pro and it's great. I had the OG iPhone and got off the Apple train after my 15 Pro Max.

the safari tab have to click to times now when before it was only once it’s annoying why couldn’t they just leave it as it was
I don't feel really annoyed by it, but that's my 'biggest' annoyance. It was so simple before-and not once have I used the other options within that pop-up menu. As I also mentioned in another thread, maybe even this one (can't remember now), I don't like the new UI when camera is open. I prefer the old setup. But, as I've used it more, I really don't mind it. I like the chat backgrounds too, nice touch.

My wife upgrading was my biggest concern: she is not a tech head at all, so I gritted my teeth when upgrading her iPhone, but so far she said she quite likes it.

I get the divide on it-there are a lot of changes, and I think iOS has changed so minimally over the years, that a significant change is always going to upset the 'Apple' cart. But I think back to moving away from Skeuomorphism (think I spelt that right haha!) and the uproar that caused, now we're seeing that uproar again because the OS has significantly changed. Time tells me that it will improve.

Padding needs sorting out in Calendar

I am with OP and am gathering pitchforks and torches.

I just "upgraded" my iPad and I wish I had not.
The new interface is pointlessly ugly. Everything now has to have a circle / rounded square border which is non-uniform in color (to give a glass look) which gives it a broken look. Everything like the dock, the tabs in Safari, the buttons all either have to be bigger (and thus take up more screen realestate) or be squished down.
Its a downgrade from what it was.
It was fine before.
It worked before.
It looks like a counterfeit Android.

If you remember, Aqua was criticized quite heavily for attempting build something that it was not and not meant to be; the imitation of 3D glass.
This has now come back with a vengeance like a monster in a horror movie that did not quite die yet in the first movie so comes back in the sequel to haunt again. Sequels like that are never rated higher than the first movie, Apple.

💯 agree iOS 26 is shithouse, the safari tab have to click to times now when before it was only once it’s annoying why couldn’t they just leave it as it was
My gripe too.
Why have we gone from one tap to perform a function, to now requiring two taps?

Safari - Having to double tap the Safari tabs button to show all tabs that are open (can be reverted back to pre IOS26 in settings)
Screenshots - the delete icon is gone, you have to first tap the 'tick', then tap delete.
Photos - now requires two taps to delete a photo

Ios26 is a major backward step from what I've experienced so far.
