Another unexpected surprise in ios26.2! It broke the functionality that triggers Siri from my 10 year old BMW steering wheel button.
Can you use “Hey Siri” as a workaround? I’m still on IOS 18, but in my Audi I can activate Siri using either the steering wheel button, or by saying “Hey Siri” / “Siri…”

I didn’t try that as usually my iPhone is tucked inside my coat or pants pocket, I am not sure if Siri will trigger given the « barriers ». I was curious so I tried it and Siri does trigger when the iPhone is inside my winter jacket! It does the same behaviour and shows as if it’s dialling my number but stays on to receive commands! So odd, tx for the suggestion.

My cousin upgraded her iPhone 14 Pro to the 17 Pro mostly on the basis of what iOS 26 did to her old phone especially the battery. So the more cynical might wonder if this was deliberate to get people to buy a new iPhone.
I'm on an iPhone 12 and see no discernible difference in speed between the previous version and 26... it's different, I'll grant you that, but it ain't necessarily slower and the battery isn't worse on 26. Maybe she just wanted an upgrade and found her excuse to fork out the cash...

Less so than the UI which I can take or leave, there are weird UI oddities.

For example in Safari the animation to go to the all tabs view frequently doesn't run. And sometimes I end up on a blank page that won't load anything, so I have to force quit Safari.

On Android I've always noticed the first thing it will sacrifice when the device slows down is animations. But iOS used to keep them consistent, now it's not anymore.

I just don't think this OS was properly tested.

Haven’t ever had this happen.

Been using iPhones since the 3GS and iOS 26 is by far the worst thing Apple have ever done.

  • Glass is awful - changing transparency is an improvement but controls when playing movies are extremely jarringl
  • Borders around apps on a dark background sucks
  • The way things swoop in and out, like menus, literally makes me feel sick
  • Safari tab/controls - compact is horrendous - the rest are just bad
  • The shortcut for URL extensions (.com etc) appear in the middle month screen which is not ergonomic
  • Swipe up from the bottom to shrink windows is hit or miss
  • Tab in Mail, which includes search, is far too cluttered

That’s just my initial reaction from 48 hours of use.

There is one thing which seems an improvement and that is the Bookmarks system in Safari.

Otherwise IOS 26 is horrendous.

Also, when cropping these screenshots, I noticed the keyboard corner radius doesn't actually match the device screen radius.

15PM radius matches perfectly. YMMV.

I have a 17 Pro Max, and it definitely doesn't match. It's especially noticeable when the keyboard is dark. You can see light slivers around where the corners do not match. When I got the phone, I thought I had a problem with the display, but no, it's an iOS issue.

Clunky garbage on my iPhone 17 Pro. Literally bricked my 2018 iPad Pro forcing me to upgrade it.

My 6th gen 12.9 iPad Pro (1TB) also lags now. Too bad, it was perfect under iPadOS 18.

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone 17 Pro. You're saying iOS 26 is garbage and ruined your phone? I haven't upgraded my phone yet.

I have the blank page issue in Safari on my iPad on iPadOS 26. Good to know iOS 26 is the same garbage as iPadOS 26. 😀

My ipad pro m1 has equivalent performance and battery life on ios 26 as under ios 18.

Works like a charm on my iphone 15PM.

Did you bring it to Apple? Bricking a supported device could mean a problem with your device. And you bought another ipad after that disastrous experience?

You might be better off to buy the latest phone that supports ios 18. Given you posted dislike of ios 26.

Don't see this on my ipad pro m5 11 inch - or see it on my iphone either. ios 26 on 4 devices in my house is pretty solid. 😀

Apple has been making it harder and harder to avoid the v26.2 update on iPhones and iPads. I’ve been successful so far on my iPhone13mini and iPadPro(4th gen), but my wife accidentally triggered it for her iPadAir(4th gen). Neither she, nor I when I use her iPadAir, care for Liquid Glass at all, especially when side-by-side compared to my iPadPro on v18.7.3 of iPadOS. That said, she’s experienced no other adverse issues on the device or its use for her normal usage. At least so far.

Your iPad Pro should operate flawlessly with iPadOS 26. I’m projecting here, but my iPad Pro m1 operates very well with iPadOS 26.

When I compare my iPad 7th gen to my iPad Pro m5 I don’t really have any strong feelings one way or another. Eventually we will all get LG and get used to it.

What do you mean by “harder to avoid”?

Apple has always had the push notification and the “enter the passcode to update at night” prompt.

Apple has actually forced me to update, because they actually deactivated my devices, but this only happened with A9 devices on iOS 9. Even so, I triggered the update manually.

I’ve never accidentally updated anything.

What’s different vs previous iOS updates?

Apple has been making it harder and harder to avoid the v26.2 update ...
What is different about your devices?

None of my iDevices updated or tried to force me to update in the last week. If you see the timing of previous pushes to release,  has been slower this time with the notification campaign... but if you have updates turned off, it isn't like they haven't gone in and changed that.

I think a big company like Apple can handle some feedback from its users. When a company makes changes people don't like, they should listen to feedback... which requires people to give feedback.

It's hard to make the argument 26.x on any system (other than maybe the watch?) has been warmly received...

Just “up”graded my iPhone to iOS 26 and I absolutely hate it. It’s visually the ugliest iOS Apple has ever produced. The icons all have a distracting (and non-sensical) edge to them. The blurred wallpapers look nothing like they used to.

It’s so ugly I’m thinking of cancelling my iPhone Air order and looking at Samsung options.
I'm with you on the new iOS 26, not only for iPhone, but iPad too! I haven't even download it for my desktop for fear of what may happen. I don't like it either. The whole thing is very annoying. What was Apple thinking? Apple better get their scheisse together!
