I don't know why everyone loved Google Maps anyways. Their Nav on Android phones is legit but the iPhone GMaps was horrible. It go me lost more times than I can count. It was so confusing to have to check if I was in the locked north, south, east, west mode where I could mistake a left for a right or from a directional view.

I don't understand

I don't understand why folks are so worked up about this.

iOS has never had turn by turn navigation.

iOS6 has ADDED a major new feature, turn by turn navigation.

The maps are different and maybe not as good (I haven't had an issue with it). Why is this a big deal? You can still get google maps by going to "maps.google.com" in Safari.

So you get the best of all worlds. Turn by turn navigation and google maps if you just want a static map.

iOS6 has ADDED Siri navigation control. I think its simply awesome. I've successfully done things like,
"take me home": It knows where 'home' is and navigates me back.
"navigate to best buy": It has successfully looked up the business name and either given me a list of places to choose from, or immediately started navigating me there.

How is this not a HUGE improvement over what was available in iOS5?

Let me clear this up for you. It's the data.

Yes the maps look pretty. turn by turn is great. vector maps are awesome. flyover is cool.

But none of that matters if your CITY is labled in the middle of the ocean... or 10 miles off from where it really is. Or if you search for "shell gas stations" and even though there are 10 in your city only 2 of them show up and one of them is half a block off. If your street that you live on isn't on the map. If your business is displayed 10 miles from the actual location.

That is the reality. Some cities are better than others. Maybe yours is good, which is fine. But some people don't have it so good. Turn-by-turn won't matter if half the places you look up aren't available and then half the others aren't in the right spot.

I don't think it's possible to grasp just how bad (or good) the data is, because all the good will ALWAYS be overshadowed by the clamoring of "the data in my area is awful!!!"
