How about "I was assaulted today"? That would reflect what actually happened to sdschwendener.

mugged is a past tense verb, and the action was almost completed upon him, so wasn't it used correctly by the OP?

Example; I almost ran this morning. I got dressed, put on running shoes, went out side, and it was ****ing freezing, so I went back to bed. I almost ran this morning.

I feel like chicago is way more dangerous than nyc nowadays. honestly it is one of the good reasons for the gentrification of nyc because you just know what areas not to really be travelling through.

Chicago actually isn't too bad on a whole, but there are some bad parts, and the Red line is a bit shady. Some bad press recently with Jennifer Hudson's family being killed in Englewood, arguably the worst neighborhood in Chicago.

Well speak of the devil, my friend was mugged today on the LRT here in Calgary. Some crackhead with a knife stole his wallet and by the time a cop got there he was long gone. Cops and "Peace Officers" here are useless, they're hardly armed and rarely do anything. (Some guy pressed the Help button and amazingly the cop did come. I've heard about people not getting any help at all after pressing it)

Add in martial arts and you'll be covered. Me? As soon as Im 18 I'll carry a gun, I've taken anti-terrorist shooting courses, self-defense and "sniper" (this was with dad who took the real deal) shooting courses so I know how to handle firearms.

Back on subject, that is so sad bro, thats something we live everyday here in Costa Rica (not that much, but in certain areas is really horrible) try not to look flashy, and for the love of god, if you find yourself in way too much danger comply, your life is far more precious that any iPhone, iPod or cash :D Stay sharp, look around and avoid walking alone; carry the pepper spray ALWAYS. Just my 2cents.

ok - you obviously aren't from the city... a few things to avoid getting jumped in the future:

don't dress expensive unless you are with a huge group of people and are traveling in a safe place. seriously - you dress "preppy," you are begging to get jumped. unless you are heading to or coming from work, don't risk it.

you maybe had your laptop in your bag? did you have it out someplace public? they probably trailed you and were looking for an opportunity to jack your stuff - especially if you are carrying around about $10,000 in technology.

don't walk around with your ipod headphones while texting and yapping on your phone on the train- in the train station, or walking alone in a sketchy neighborhood - you need to pay attention to what is going on around you.

if you are completely paranoid - buy some underwear with pockets - keep most of your stuff in there, and a few bucks in your wallet. if you get mugged, they can have that $20 and the coupon for a free brazilian wax.

You need to take self-defense classes to scare those muggers away. I can't believe some people are like that, what do they want?

producing a gun in closed quarters is dangerous. If you have have a gun you better be sure your are prepared to do some irreversible harm to another person's body.

Well glad you got away clean.

Sorry for being a small town idiot, but would they really try to rob you during rush hour? And in the day time?

Self defense training would be your best bet. A knife is a sissy weapon, and a gun, i think, would be to dangerous in a situation like that. With so many people around. If you were to miss, or if the bullet was to go thru the guy.

Tell you what to do. Go find a MMA training place. Talk to the owner and tell him or her that you would like to get some training for self defense. They are usually very nice people and can teach you some stuff that will rock anybody's world. A 6 year old could take down a 30 year old with just one hand.
