Hi This is funah,

Great to see your pictures! As a new soon-to-be iMac owner (on or before 27/10 from the UK Apple Store - still hoping for "before") I am very interested in the specifics of the hardware.

Any chance you could run up System Profiler (I think - Mac newbie, remember!) and let us know the model numbers of the components like the Superdrive, hard drive, etc.

Many thanks...

I Want One!

I still have my lovely (and completely outdated at this point) iMac G4, and am suffering from severe iMac G5 envy and desire....the only thing that's keeping me from running down the street to the Apple Store is the inability to move iSight around! Wonder if I can keep my old iSight and hook it up to the new machine

I'm hoping I can use my spare USB webcam (Logitech) for occasions where I need a 'floating' webcam

The iMac G5 always did have 3 fans. And yes....I do have one of the loudest iMac G5s ever produced.

The new imac has fans in new places, from what I hear. Like, on the optical drive, and on the hard drive, instead of just being out there in the center of the computer and below the heat sync. Only pics will tell! (crack that baby open and take a picture!)

It also looks like to me that the optical drive is more "centered" on the right side and not as close to the top as it is on my Rev A. Is this new or or is the location the same as on the Rev B?

It is noticably thinner than my Rev A. And the reduced fan noise seems great. If I do anything other than browse the web, my iMac "takes off"!

How annoying is the fan noise? I've got an old sunflower iMac that's quiet and a new 17" iMac on order...don't want no helicopter...

my uncle has an isight. if you want, i can test it out to see if it works with the built-in isight as a replacement. (i have the new imac)

Hi there,

Would one of you guys that have already received a new iMac (iSight) be able to publish some of the data from the System Profiler? I'd love to see the model numbers of the Superdrive and CPU, etc.

Thanks!

Is this the 17" or 20"?

Can you tell how easy it can be opened and/or if the foot can be removed?

Also, if you have a measuring tape handy, could you post the dimensions of it without the foot?

have you tried to do some heavy task as for example some after effects render with it? how is the overall performance? i was thinking of buying one but the difference of price with the new dc 2.0 powermac is almost insignificant (+240€~).

thank you

i wrote a near-complete review of my new imac and it got published at www.macbst.com

read if you had any more questions. :)
thanks ITASOR!

Nice review - my 17inch is due to arrive on Monday. I've not received the paperwork to ship my unopened iMac Rev.B back to Apple yet, though they insists it's on the way. So I may be able to take a picture of the two boxes next to each other - passing like ships in the night :)

Anyone who has the new iMac want to measure how thick the whole display is becuase apple only tells the body. (hopefully that makes sence)

Is the screen big enough? I'm still deciding for a 17" and a 20"...

17 should be adequate for most things - I've got a 17" on my Mini and I ordered a 17" iMac ----- a 20" would just be outrageous

Well ....... do you feel outrageous - punk !!!!

20" is good for many things. Photo stuff, full A4 page word writing without squinting, movie playback and editing, multitasking - watch movie whilst writing or prowling webpages...

Hello, I just bought the new imac. I must say, it is FANTASTIC. The upgraded 17" screen is much improved over the REV A's and B's. Plus, this thing is quieter than my old mac mini. I am thrilled with it, much more than I thought I would be!

Can Anyone with the new Imac try to copy frontrow off? I've obtained photobooth, ,but still after frontrow at the moment. Can anyone confirm if it is an app, or part of the OS.

This is good news. Is it still quiet when it's being hammered by intensive apps?
