Try pinging your router (Applications/Utilities/Network Utility). If you get packet loss between the two, there's some kind of incompatibility between the router and your MBP, maybe hardware related.

I had a similar issue where my iMac would operate at 1/3 the speed of two other Macs and two PCs. Switching the Netgear router to an AEBS fixed it.

Have you tried updating the router firmware?
I read of "Fritz Box" which is from AVM and very common in germany, and yeah they have some issues with macs, meaning internet is really slow...
There is an update which is supposed to fix it ....

Well I changed the DNS server. I'm not sure if it really helped. Sometimes surfing is smooth and kinda fast, but most of the time it is slow and sluggish. I can watch the blue loading bar on safari usually reach around half way, then I will either have to hit to the reload button or wait around 10 seconds for it finish loading. It is becoming so frustrating.

I did ping my router and no packets were lost.

I just don't get it.

There is something wrong with either the internet settings on your MBP (iPv6 for example) or there is an issue between the router and your wireless N card. Most likely the latter as Linksys routers are notorious for acting up with macs. Play around with the settings by turning stuff on and off and testing results on your machine.

This happened to me with a Dlink router once. Every windows PC was surfing blazing fast but my mac would crawl until i turned off/changed a setting and hey presto.

If nothing seems to be working then maybe you're better off just getting an Airport Express

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out the problem. I don't know much about signal interference so I will ask you guys. I live in a medium sized apartment building, one room efficiency apartment (college life haha). I can pick up anywhere from 6-8 different networks from my room. Could those be possibly interfering with my signal causing the slow downs?

I have been thinking about purchasing an airport extreme base station or airport express base station. But after doing some reading about compatibility issues with the xbox360 (xbox live), I'm not sure it would work for me. Is anyone familiar with xbox360 (xbox live) and airport together?

Thanks everyone for the help, much appreciated!

I'm having major issues this evening. My internet is loading roughly 80% and stopping. On my mac book pro, the blue bar on Safari loads about 80% and just stops. Firefox is doing the same thing. My wired PC is doing the same thing as well. My network is protected and no one has my password. I do not have anything in my one room apartment that would interfere with my signal. Can some else in my apartment building be interfering with my signal somehow? Should I operate on a different channel on my router(i don't know much about this)???. Thanks

Definitely try a different channel. Should be one the first things done in a situation like this.
