I have had my AW Sport for more than four months and I think it's fantastic. You have to give it at least a couple of weeks to figure out how to get the most out of it. You may also decide that it just isn't for you. Personally I found that it exceeded my expectations (perhaps because early reviews were mostly negative reviews written by tech bloggers who didn't actually want a smartwatch to begin with). What do I like best about it? Silent notifications and information at a glance. I like that I get notified when I get a phone call, text message, reminder, etc. without having to hear my iPhone ding. I like that I can glance at the notification and decide whether or not I want to respond/act on it right away, snooze it for later, or dismiss it completely. I like that I can quickly check the time, my calendar, task list and weather forecast without digging my iPhone out of my bag or coat pocket. It's certainly a convenience device more than a necessity, but man does it add a lot of convenience for me! Little things that add up to a lot: Using "Hey Siri" to text or call my wife, set a timer, or set a reminder when my hands are full for example.
I did have to experiment with some third party apps to get my calendaring and reminders to work the way I like them to work, but on the whole I have decided that a smartwatch is not a great platform for lots of different kinds of apps. I have about 4 third party apps I use on a daily basis for calendar, reminders, weather and grocery list. I have other apps I find useful in certain situations, but not daily or even weekly. It's also great for tracking personal fitness, although there are some things I think my old Fitbit does a little better (and other things I think the Apple Watch does better).
I kind of wish I had gone for the stainless steel Apple Watch, but the Sport is still awfully nice looking IMO (I have the silver one). I bought a couple of third party leather bands to dress it up a little, although I do like the sport band as well.
