OH MY GOD KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY!

Dial *639# from your iPhone and you will get an alert back letting you know if you are eligible and under what conditions. It couldn't be simpler. If it doesn't work the first time and you get an error, try it a few times and eventually it will work.

What I dont understand is Im on the family plan (Me/Wife) bought 3GS phones same day and I can upgrade with the 18.00 fee but she cannot? she has to pay the 399/499 price! whats up with that

What do you pay for the second line? $10? It's not enough to pay the subsidy. Therefore they can't afford to offer an early upgrade on the second line.

My husband is the primary and has the Razor. Our plan is the cheapest we can get and both of us are eligible for updates. I will update from the 3GS to the iphone 4. Since my plan costs more ($30.00 data and 15.00 for Texts) I would like to be the primary holder on the account. Can this be changed at AT&T?

Upgrade eligibility is determined on a line by line basis.

You more than likely are the primary account holder, right? This means that the charge for the family plan, the entire plan for the voice, your portion of the data and any txting you may have on your line counts towards you. Lots of people will easily hit over $99 by just adding a small txt package in this case.

On the other hand your wife would only have the $30 data charge. If this is the case, she lucky to be eligible for the 399/499 price in this case, because it doesn't conform with ATT's official upgrade policy. Add in perhaps unlimited text and...i dunno...an international data package (from 25-199/month), ATT Navigator, and Insurance (through ATT) and she'll be eligible too.*

*after 3 months when her monthly average expenditure changes.

I was under the impression that any one on an iPhone plan currently can upgrade to the iPhone 4 at the 399/499 price with a new two year commitment. Those who are upgrade eligible can get the fully subsidized price of $199/$299. However, when I try to get my upgrade eligibility, I am only getting the no commitment price of 599/699. I started off in August of 2008 with the iPhone 3G, and then did an early upgrade for the 3GS and now would like to do an early upgrade for iPhone 4, but it doesn't look like this will be possible, unless I am willing to pay the no commitment price.

I'm watching the downloadable WWDC 2010 keynote posted on iTunes, and 1:38:12 into the video, Jobs specifically states, "if your contract expires anytime during 2010, you are immediately eligible for a new iPhone 4 at the same $199/299 price if you top up your contract for two years." I like the fact that there wasn't even one clap in the audience for AT&T's "incredibly generous" upgrade offer. We must be some really burned people for AT&T to have such a silent reception.

FWIW, I just sold my wife's pristine-condition white 16GB iPhone 3G (not 3GS), unlocked for $300 on CraigsList. Took me 90 minutes from the time I posted it. I think people will and should do a lot better when trying to sell off a 3GS, especially when it will still have multitasking capability and it's likely still within its first year of warranty, unlike my wife's iPhone 3G which doesn't.

Good luck to everyone.

If you think about it, that is basically common knowledge. (This is not to diss you!)

If your contract is ending in 2010, then you have successfully completed the two year agreement. Most upgrades are available before the contract ends. With this being said, most (if not all) of the contracts ending in 2010 should have been already eligible for an upgrade (I know that I have and my contract is up this month). They either just did not realize or were just waiting.

It is being said that it is a "bonus". The only real bonus is AT&T giving everyone who has an iPhone within the end of 2010 the chance to upgrade.
