One other nice thing about the Nexus 7 is that it's still supported with the latest software updates straight from Google pretty much right away. I'm curious how quickly and for how long non-Nexus Asus tablets receive support.

This is an ASUS Flagship device, with Android 5.0 and full Z Stylus support. IMO it will definitely get Android Marshmallow, and the next major update after that. Why? because with a 64-Bit CPU at 2.3Ghz and 4GB of RAM it has room to grow and more than enough horsepower.
That being said Apple is clearing the supply chain, iPad Air 2 is on sale to $399 from Target,, Best Buy, and Staples
iPad Air 3 imminenet.
