its just a phone dude.

I and many others could care less. It's just a phone

This particular sentiment has ALWAYS been extremely confusing to me!!!!

I mean... why did these people actively seek out an iPhone enthusiast forum, sign up, create a username and password, respond to the email, come back, log in, and dig through the various forums until they get to the one specifically on iPhone, look through the posts, find one and tell the people there “nobody cares about this... it’s just a phone!”?
Lol. That’s a lot of VERY specific steps, time & energy- to take to try and convince others that you don’t care about something!!
Weird.
Everyone else on the planet simply ignores the things we don’t care about.

Plus, it’s simply BEYOND rude!
I can’t imagine going to a pc enthusiast forum for example, joining.... then trying to “shame” all the overclockers, excited about their latest accomplishment, by saying: “dude... nobody cares less; it’s just a computer!”, or a car enthusiast forum and trying to take the wind out of everybody’s sails by going around and jeering at the regular forum users: “it’s just a car dude, nobody cares!”.
I mean.... in each instance, it seems like these users really have sought out the most appropriate place to connect with people who DO care!!

It’s a bizarre place to put down people for caring about Apple kit; on an Apple fan site...
Like, do these people go to family reunions just to tell people that nobody is interested in families coming together???
Very, very, very, very odd!

Basically, Apple has a culture of not looking backwards, unless it's to give context to the future.

While there's always a question about the accuracy of Hollywood's version of history, there are those two scenes in the Aaron Sorkin "Steve Jobs" movie where Steve (Michael Fassbender) unbendingly refuses Woz's (Seth Rogen) pleas to recognize the Apple II team. Something to the effect of, "The Apple II is in the past. This is the future!"

The iPhone Birthday is an arbitrary choice, anyway. Should it be the day the first iPhone came off the assembly line? The day it was announced to the public? The day it arrived in stores?

I was curious to see if something would be said on Apple.com, or at the least, a leaked email from Tim to the staff, but I wasn't too surprised that it didn't happen. After all, on your birthday the only party worth having is one that other people organize in your honor.

100% agree. Plus its not "just a phone"

its a hand held computer. And 90% of kids don't even use the phone part of the "phone." lol

Plus Apple marketed it pretty big as its much MORE than a phone.

It's the definition of a troll. Best to just ignore them as their goal is to wind you up.

Not everyone uses forums like this one to worship an electronic device or a company's various devices. Some use these forums to learn things, get help, and so on.

But let’s speak to the actual issue, shall we?
The op was merely musing why there’s been no official mention of the 10th anniversary...
This is hardly, “using the forum to worship the iPhone” (your words).

Sooooooo... I’m still right that telling him to “chill out dude... it’s just a phone” is rude & a bit silly, yeah?

You mean the fact that Apple did nothing for this 'anniversary' and some members here seem to be disappointed and confused why Apple didn't ? It's for Apple to decide.... nothing more....

Didn't have to actively search for this. I was looking at other threads and this one came upon me as silly

Huh....
Bizarre.
Soooooo, umm- if I understand the situation correctly, you’d consider EVERY thread silly because:
I and many others could care less. It's just a phone
& absolutely EVERY thread under the heading “iPhone” (which is where you are at, bro!) would be about that “just a phone”.

I guess maybe just make a list of SPECIFIC things about “just a phone” that are allowable by you to converse on, those topics regarding “just a phone” that drove you here, itching to post!
That way we can all avoid sharing conversations with others on tidbits we’re curious about, if they cross the threshold from things that ARE ok to talk about, even though it’s just a phone.... to the stuff that will draw your ire.
Maybe you could get a mod to make it a sticky at the top of all the threads?
That way you don’t have to waste your time here “regulating”, & telling people how uninteresting and silly their questions, thoughts, and opinions are.

I'm amazed that 1,000,000 people can interpret a post in a 1,000,000 different ways... I understood OP's intent on this thread as you did.
