Any time I think of going away from it i'm confronted by the following:

1. I won't be able to accommodate iphone users. They use facetime, imessage, etc. Good luck on getting them to download google apps to accommodate you instead. This is the biggie. It's easier for me as an iphone user to accommodate google or other users.
2. I own macs. Being able to use continuity and handoff features is nice plus any other iOS related features.
3. I own a bunch of paid apps on iphone some of which aren't offered on android.
4. Then there's the ipad, apple tv, apple watch which needs iphone, etc.
5. I like itunes (one of the few i guess..lol). I like being able to do full backups which is simple enough. I've no idea if android is as capable but would like to think so.
6. And finally, support. It's great to not have to deal with carriers or their stores. If i have a problem, i swap my iphone out at an apple store. I suppose i'll throw in frequent OS updates here along with best apps in class.

So yeah, that OLED samsung bloatware S7 or Note looks really good. I'm a sucker for best quality screens. It's tempting. But it wouldn't do the trick.

That pretty much sums up why I could never switch. I'm also tempted by the hardware, but it'd just be too much of a hassle.

If you are dependent on the Apple Ecosystem, probably not worth the switch. I basically use the same apps on all my devices... so the apps I use transitions easily between devices. Since most current carrier plans usually includes unlimited texts, iMessage isn't an issue... most people I text have unlimited text anyway. If they do pay for text, especially my international friends, they usually text me on whatsapp or hangouts. The only people that facetime me is my wife and kids. I still use my 6+ and iPad so they can still facetime me, but they could also use hangouts if they wanted to video chat.

I use 3rd party cloud that syncs my pics/vids and store docs. Google contacts syncs fine between both devices. I distance myself more from the Apple Ecosystem when music/video streaming became the norm for me... UDP also helps... plus some carriers allow you to steam certain services without counting against your data. I didn't move totally away from Apple... I still use Apple Music on both platforms.

For me, going to between iOS and my S7 edge wasn't to bad.. A lot of features I like on the S7 edge for it to be my daily driver, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are too dependent on the Apple Ecosystem. Nothing wrong staying with what you are comfortable with... I love iOS (when jailbroken)... I still use my 6+ and iPad daily. But just loving the S7 Edge a lot more at the moment.

The grass is not always greener on the other side, Samsung may make an attractive looking phone, but their OS is terrible (TouchWiz is a joke) the app store fails in comparison to iPhone's app store, their customer service is terrible, updates are not half as often or as good as on the iPhone and Samsung phones often slow down over time.

The decision is up to you however, but i feel that Apple does the right thing. Do they stay up to date with the latest features? No, but they do take their time to try and perfect what they put into their phones. Are Apple perfect? No but they do build a great phone that often can last for years (My mum had my iPhone 4s until i recently brought her a SE). Unless i have been extremely lucky, i have never had an Apple device fail on me, my iPhones have always been great so have my iPad's and my Mac's. Apple's customer service have always been great, in my opinion.

Do Apple make mistakes? of course they do, no one or no company is perfect, just look at Apple Maps. But i do think that looking at the bigger picture, the iPhone is the best smartphone on the market, when it comes to reliability, usability and overall customer satisfaction. Obviously this is my opinion and others will differ, your's may too :D

Probably not the best place to ask about moving to android in an iOS forum.

;)

I'm thinking like you to move to the Samsung Galaxy s7 - for me...the edge.

Eco-System ! Pppffttt. This I hear lots of times. It's a preference thing.

Apps - Both App stores hold what you'll need coupled with all the dross apps too !

TouchWiz is better than past editions and if you don't like it install Nova as one option.

I can live without Apps I download on my iPhone being copied to my iPad. Some even turn this feature off anyway.

Go with your gut feeling.

I sold my iphone 6 in July and bought a Nexus 5X, and this week I came back to Apple with my tail between my legs and bought an iPhone SE.

Granted the 5X is a mid range phone but even so I was fed up having to do maintenance on it just to get it not to slow down and to get the battery to last the day. They say Samsungs TW is a hog, the 5X has stock android and still runs like carp. I also installed the Nougat DP5 on it and it ran even worse than Lollipop with redraws of the launcher etc.

So here I am back to a phone that just works with no fuss.

Definitely yes to friends and family having an iPhone. It is easier to deal with them, and their tech issues. Personally, I switched to a Nexus 4, and then Nexus 5, back it the day, and they weren't terrible phones. The fun thing about android is the customization; the annoying thing about android is the customization. I could never tweak it enough. Now I'm married with a kid and ain't nobody got time for that.

It's personal preference, but if you can pick up a sale on an unlocked Nexus P or 5X, and keep yr iPhone, maybe that'll let you experiment with a new OS. I don't know what type of cell phone plan you have, but T-Mobile has that Jump on Demand and you can switch yr phone 3 times a year. That might help yr decision.

I went into the city centre today. Lucky to have both Apple and Samsung stores in the same shopping centre.

I have together with my wife to many Apple products to mention being a long time addict to all things from the company.

I think you can guess what I am about to ask.

Why is it from the Samsung S7 edge to nearly all the other products in the Samsung store did I feel the screens were much better, apps faster and had all items just had a better quality feel to them?

Aside from the security issue with Android I have been tempted to the dark side.

Is there any hope for me?

Dave

Well depends. How invested are you in the apple ecosystem? Do you use FaceTime and iMessages heavily? Are all your current apps available on android platform?

I really want to go back to android but over these past two year of using iOS I have become dependent on the ecosystem. I actually got a galaxy s7 edge when it first came out but winded up going back to iPhone 6s because of the apps and FaceTime/iMessages. Sometimes I wish I never switched to iOS from android.

If you have extra cash to spend I would say buy the sy edge or note 7. Keep it for a month and if you don't like it you can always sell it.

For what it's worth, I love what Apple did with the SE in terms of processor and ram. I think it boasts the fastest benchmarks of any iphone now. I wish they'd go further with it and call it iphone classic and really go nuts with it...OLED or sapphire all glass, waterproof, etc.

I don't think much of the Plus version right now and not a fan of the 6 series (plus) in general. The 6S Plus is adequate, doesn't lag like the prior but it could be so much better. The rumored changes this year weren't exactly what I was wanting in making it better though. I never thought if only they'd make this thinner, lose the headphone jack, put in some cosmetic speaker holes, maintain same battery life. What I did hope for was a smaller phone by losing some of the bezels, a return to pixel perfect screens (like every other iphone) by having the correct screen resolution, more ram, apple pencil designed for it.

I think the Note 7 is in its own class. The iphone plus doesn't really compete with it. Apple would have to redesign it for pencil support along with a pencil itself that's built in. iOS would need changed along with certain apps or new apps for it.

If you want the only pro phone, I'd say get the Note. It's the only one out there. It's the closest to a pocket wacom you're going to get along with the best mobile screen out there. No doubt, Apple is thinking about it and would probably go yet a tier higher in price for it but that's a year away if not more.

gosh why do I find folks that start a sentence with "listen" as being very condescending. Not only written but spoken too - have had to speak to staff about this in the past.

That is a interesting point.

I don't use the word myself, but there is some truth to what you say.

Well done!

Listen, as nice as the new note 7 is, Apple is the only company thank supports older devices as long as they do. Google is cool for cutting edge experimental tech, but they ax anything software or hardware on a whim. That's why I switched back. The note 7 will be fine for this year, but next year there'll be a note 8 and yr updates will slowdown...

Samsung is trying to make this better these last two years.

Time will tell.

You don't have to leave Apple just because you are thinking of the note 7.

I've ordered the note 7 and will sell my 6s plus but iPad Pro will still be my go to tablet while still using Apple TV most days.

Best of both worlds. It doesn't;t need to be one or the other.

And Apple doesn't come out with new devices annually? And now they have gotten worse in the hardware dept as far as user upgrades. Most devices are no longer "open up and replace internal parts," for example. Apple wants you to buy and dump every year now. I like Apple as much as anyone else but the fact is for me they simply no longer make the products I want. I am not going to buy Apple devices just because I have in the past. At this juncture the Samsung S7 Edge is the superior device for me. Should the next iphone be "better" for my needs, I will get one.

This sounds like you´re prefering the Galaxy S7 Edge, because it's more repairable. Which would be funny because it got 3 points on ifixit.com vs. 7 points for the iPhone 6S.

Is it me or are Samsung (one step ahead) apart from their applePay equivalent.

I just feel its catch up all the time with apple.

Okay so what do I want - I want a battery to last two days with heavy use.
I believe this to be possible.
A screen as good as a S7 with VIBRANT colour.
No more bassel its a waste - the edge curved YES I want that - but importantly not touch sensitive on the edge - for obvious reasons when holding iPhone.
Haptic feedback home button ie no home button
Water proof to 7 feet.
Free lighting to 3.5 adapter in box.

You should definitely plan your future with Samsung instead of Apple!
You can basically get everything from this company. Smartphones, tablets, watches, cameras, PCs, TVs, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, hell you could even try to get a K9 Thunder military tank, developed by Samsung Techwin. Might as well move to South Korea and work for them, though.

*irony off*

Samsung makes some good products. Well, considering how much they're producing, there have to be some good products among them. Buy them if it seems right for you. But since the tech industry changes incredibly fast, you shouldn't plan anything in this regard.
Last but not least, there are so many other plans in life that are much more worth pursuing..

are you replying to me? thanks if you are.
if you are talking to me I'm not leaving apple not in a "Preston Guild" but I would like to see apple more the leader rather than the follower (certain features exempt like the eXcellent applePay).

Actually I just wanted to comment on this thread since the title is so hilarious.

You and me both. But for me personally, Apple products are still the best option right now. However, I hope Apple get their "swag" back rather sooner than later..

100% agree apple are the best but I cant help but feel apple should be better with battery life (easy to implement). we need 48hr battery life just a more powerful battery please - not asking much - for SIX HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE POUNDS - One could buy a half decent second hand car for that.
cheers

I'm curious. As someone who has an iPhone 6S and a Galaxy S7 Edge (work phone). Why do you think ApplePay is a better mobile payment alternative? I personally have found Samsung Pay to be better since it can be used more or less anywhere, while ApplePay/Android Pay rely on NFC.

Hi
Thanks for replying. I'm fortunate to have an apple watch sport - its just so easy to pay - I tend to gravitate towards 'contactless retailer' its so much easier.
I have left my wallet at home once or twice and its helped me out!
How are you finding the 6s v the S7, given the choice which would be your "Desert Island Smartphone" (assuming perfect 4G on the desert island!) and why your particular choice?
The colours on the S7 seem more vibrant and the android OS esp. homescreen seems better with the widgets.
cheers

I'm iPhone for Life (It even says that on my Sprint Bill). I've been very happy with the iPhone and living within the Apple ecosystem. BUT then Amazon Prime Day happened.

I've always been curious about Android so when the Moto G4 (with Amazon Ads) went on sale for $115 then I ordered one and when it arrived I felt stupid. I didnt even have a carrier so I signed up for Ringplus (a "free" MVNO a friend uses) and now I had two phones for some reason. One $900 Apple mega phone and a dopey ad-ridden $100 android toy phone.

But then it hit me. Efficient Notifications. OK Google. Widgets. Google Photos. Gmail.app. Maps. All these things that i did on an iPhone felt better on an Android phone. And I wasn't even using a good one.

I still am "iPhone for life" because this is where my life is stored under. AppleTV, iTunes Store, Aperture, Macs, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. BUT, my new experience with a non-Apple device is making me start to wonder which side of the fence really does have the greener grass.

I still am "iPhone for life" because this is where my life is stored under. BUT, my new experience with the crappier side of Android is making me start to wonder which side of the fence really does have the greener grass.

I could be reading a post written by myself (although better written by you) - I have been an iPhone owner from June '07 and swore I'd never own any other brand again.
I fancied a phone (iPod actually) for my car as I'm a 'Google Play Music" subscriber-
cost
£29.00 for smartphone Moto E
£10.00 'topup' required by Vodafone
£1.50 glass screen protector
£1.19 eBay unlock to any network (took 2 minutes)
£35.00 128GB SD

Basically I love my iPhone "6" 128GB but at £699 for my two year old 2014 "from new" iphone I feel a bit "ripped off"
My Moto "E" 128GB was £76.69
heres why
Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 04.58.49.png

The Moto "E" is excellent has all the same apps and the android OS with widgets is much improved from two years ago - very polished.
No way is the iPhone 811.46% better.
I would say its twice as good so 100% - so iPhone based on my experience SHOULD cost £153.38 maybe £200 maximum
→Verdict iPhone is totally overpriced v android - THE iPhone IS UNREASONABLY EXPENSIVE

✔︎ I will likely "jump ship" unless iphone 10 - 2017 is better value.

I feel the same, with no AMOLED with the iPhone, feels outdated, love the samsung, but the only problem is the OS and the ability to iMessage others
