Hi, firstly apologies for posting here. I'm new to this site and not sure where I can get some advice. Anyhow, I bought a 'new' iPhone 7 plus, 128G just the other day. 'Am I crazy?' I was promised it would be brand new and sealed in its boxed, etc. All looked A okay, but on checking the battery capacity it's at 92%. Indicating that it's been used. I checked the IMEI on apple and it's warranty runs out 'tomorrow', says it was bought originally on 9th April 2017 (estimated). This could be plausible if bought by a 'third party', but... I'm an English teacher in China and I bought it via another expat out here (I didn't know him but he seemed like a stand up guy - hopefully not a stand up comedian). He promised it would be 'brand new'. Is it possible for a 'new' iphone's battery to degrade by 7/8% from purely from being in the box? In fact, online many people with new phones said their battery is at 104% capacity, etc. So I'm thinking, even if boxed and unused it should still be much closer to 99/100%. However, I don't really know. This expat guy has a supplier in the 'south of China'. I've also checked the battery on a couple of apps, 'battery life' and 'Lirum info lite' and both confirm a 7% wear. On digging around online (as I'm clearly no expert) it seems it could transpire to be quite a lot of 'cycles' but I don't really know. No app I found can confirm the amount of charges/cycles the battery has had all showing as n/a. But the app says it's because Apple have blocked that information since a recent IOS update or something - which is a damn shame as that would prove it without question, i.e. n/a definitely does not mean 'zero' cycles. Obv a new phone, new battery should have zero cycles. The box looked legit and the phone looks new and the accessories look new. I'm a bit peeved and concerned about it. Ironically one of the reasons why I bought this phone was because of the reviews about its battery! Any advice would be welcome, thanks to you all in advance. Jimmy

Today, it is the perfect phone for me. Maybe wish it was slightly smaller (4.5”), but otherwise perfect. My main concern is how it will age.

Really badly. By next year I’m guessing Apple will stop supporting it with OS updates.

Agreed. I would seriously return it for a 6S or 7 while possible, personally.

How much more can a 6S really cost if OP paid full price for the 6?

Will probably cost less than what he / she paid for that 6

I’d look to swappa unless you need to finance the phone. You can get a killer deal on a 6s or a 7 on there in mint or very good condition.

You are not crazy but you are ******* crazy. Paying that much money for obselete tech

Guessing we probably won't see the OP again since he didn't like what he heard here.

I agree. I think iOS 12 will be very telling sign of the future of the iPhone 6 and where Apple alters their lineup come this fall. Should be interesting to say the least.

You asked others to validate your tech equipment choices and now you cannot deal with the feedback well. consult who you want but be prepared that not everyone will tell you what you want to hear.

I didn't ask anyone to validate anything. That's simply projection on your part. And ignorance.

And I've never once taken issue with anyone who told me I made a bad decision in this thread. I appreciate that feedback, since it's the reason I created the thread in the first place.

My only issue is with people who pop into a thread and type "What's the point of this thread?", especially *after* other posters have already typed the same thing. Just wastes everyone's time. If you don't see the point of a thread, don't post in it. Real simple.

Are you considering returning the 6 to buy a used but mint 6s or 7 to get the extra gb of ram? I think it could buy you another 2 years of usage.

Paying full price for a 6 in 2018 is crazy in my honest opinion. The next update will likely slow it down to the point where it's frustratingly unusable.

1Gb of RAM makes no sense nowadays unless it's just a beater device you keep in your car for emergency calls, not your main phone.
